“A wonderful place to rekindle romance!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2012

I recommend this lovely hotel to newlyweds, people who want to fall in love all over after many years of marriage or a couple needing a break from the kids...

We celebrated our 12ht wedding anniversay here. We loved the outdoor bathroom concept, the private pool, the lovely daybed outside and the finer details by the lovely hotel staff.

Breakfast was fantastic, by the beach. We just spent our time eating, sitting by the beach, getting a beach massage and heading back to our pool villa.

Your privacy is assured. I will go back again to this hotel ANYTIME! Thank you Sala Samui for making our anniversary a very memorable one.

My husband and I and our two grown up daughters stayed at The Sala for 10 nights at the end of March for my husbands birthday. We stayed in two deluxe balcony rooms which was great, however not enough storage for 2 adults. On arrival we had complimentary sparkling wine and a birthday cake in our room which was a nice touch. The first four days of our stay were wonderful! The hotel was modern, clean and the staff were attentive. The pools were quiet and relaxing which is exactly what we needed. The Spa treatments and massage area by the quiet pool were serene. We dined in the hotel restaurant by the beach and pool area, which at the start of our stay was fantastic. The food was extremely good, very chilled out and romantic.

Then it all changed......... On day 5 the hotel was bombarded with a large booking of 10 adults and approximately 15 young infants. They completely took over the main pool area, beach bar and restaurant. From this period on the entire place descended down hill rapidly. Examples of unacceptable bad public behaviour are as follows; children unattended in the pool with glass bottles, milkshakes, food, wet towels and buckets of sand from the beach. The relaxing pool area quickly turned into a children's play area with toys and towels everywhere!! The beach bar became almost impossible to access with children sitting on stools a baby actually propped up on the bar.. It seemed although the staff and especially the management were unable to control the situation, they also seemed to cater to the large, rude and arrogant families every need with the sufferance of the other guests. The hotel provided a large gazebo by the pool for the large group of families for breakfast and dinner however the children were continuously up and down and standing on chairs etc which you can imagine completely changed the chilled out and relaxing vibe. At breakfast time the resturant was like a zoo. The group of families used the restaurant and we were asked to sit in the gazebo, when you are paying £15 for breakfast per person it was unacceptable. The service and food in the restaurant completely changed and the whole hotel was under staffed. We attented the Thai buffet at the begining of the holiday which was wonderful, we then tried the BBQ rib buffet on the second half of the holiday and could not believe the difference in the quality, quantity and selection of the food. There was not enough food to go round and we were each given two small ribs from the BBQ. When my daughter went up for seconds there was nothing cooking on the BBQ, she asked for more ribs and after waiting 10 minites was served a raw, fatty piece of pork. The service was also awful that night, we had to pour our own wine throughout our dinner and once we had eaten our main course our starter plates and bowls were still sitting at our table. I then had to get up and clear the table myself and put them on the resturant bar. In light of the experience at the rib night we felt unprepared to pay for the food bill, my husband spoke with the chef in complaint of the bad evening we had experienced. As a gesture of good will they invited us back the following evening promising they would make it up to us, which we accepted.

Every day my family and I sat on the beach, but liked to move to the quieter pool in the afternoon to get the last bit of sun, however even the quiet length pool was not an option as other guests with children had to move by this pool due the main pool being over crowded with the large group. Towards the end of the holiday there were no fresh towels by the beach or pool in the late afternoon and when we asked for one they said it was not possible and we were asked to collect towels from our rooms and they would be replenished in the evening. When we managed to sit by the quieter pool, drinks and towels from previous guests had not been cleared and were still not moved during the couple of hours we were sitting there. Cold drinking water was served at the beach and pool throughout the day, this also changed and if you wanted a glass of water you would have to ask for it and wait by the overcrowded bar.

We were completely shocked how the management accepted such a large booking at a small luxury boutique hotel. We have also seen another review since returning home where this has happened before in January and the management have obviously taken no notice.

On the last night we went to The Fishermans Village for dinner and came back to an unlocked room! The maid came in to do the turn down service and did not lock the door behind her. What more can I say!

When complaining about this at reception on our last night another large group checked in! Around 20 young, rowdy and excited teenagers were checking in. They were put in the garden pool villas below us. That night they were up till the early hours partying and jumping in and out of there private pools and playing loud music! We were very happy to be leaving the next morning!

From our experience at the resort it is apparent that the Sala's main objective is profit, leaving their reputation and guests perceptions at stake.

I can honestly say that our stay was faultless. We had a garden villa, which was beautiful. The private dip pool was just perfect. The staff are so helpful & friendly, the food wonderful and everywhere was exceptionally clean. It is all the extra little touches that really add to the stay at this hotel. We WILL return!

Beautiful welcome with rose petals and towel swans on the bed! Lovely private villa with swimming pool and indoor/outdoor bathroom with rain shower which was beautiful!

Morning breakfast was always far too early so never made it.

Lovely spa with reasonably priced treatments.

Small beach area for the size of the resort but a lovely swimming pool...

Located on Choeng Mon Beach...ventured along here one night to a nice little bar and had some lovely cocktails!

Town itself is filthy but this was my overall review of Thailand! Yuck!

Room Tip: take the villa with pool - lovely and well worth it!

We have just returned fron 7 blissful nights at Sala Samui and have already vowed to return. The resort is wonderful. The rooms and gardens are breathtaking ( it really does look exactly like the photos!). The private pool villa was fantastic, so cool and comfortable, however, it is the outstanding staff that really make this resort, from gardeners to waitstaff without exception they were wonderful, always smiling and laughing and could not do enough for us. The restaurant is brilliant, every meal we had was exceptional. It's only about a tem minute taxi trip into Chewang the main shopping district ( costs 300 tbt or $10 au), and there are always taxis ready and waiting at the hotel foyer. We would recommend this beautiful venue to anyone...it really is outstanding!

Our first stay was amazing also we visited this hotel after 5 years for second time with our baby and friends. But the second experience was not soo good. My husband has problems with his leg and can not walk good. And there is a problem-this hotel is full of steps (but with no function, only architectural detail) - to the villas are steps, in restaurant are steps etc. Also not recomended for older people and also for little children. We spent there 13 nights in the presidentail villa. This villa is excellent, the best what the hotel offer. Specious, with big pool.
The service is not very good, if you need something, you have to call service for three times and more. For example we want mosquito nets for both rooms, because there is very much mosquitos. They bring only one and for the second one we have to wait for 1 day and call there five times. They promise everything...
The breakfast buffet was very poor, all 11 days the same. The last 2 days was it much better.
The beach is not very good for children, in the sea are stones and seaweeds and also jellyfish. We spent time with children by swimmingpool.

Room Tip: Presidential suite is the best, Sala pool villa is also very good

Second time to Sala Samui and won't be the last, We booked for 9 nights and still have 6 to go, please go very slowly........... We just love the tranquillity, location, rooms, beach, staff etc etc I could rant on forever but all you need to know is if you book this hotel you will not be dissapointed. We were celebrating our Wedding Anniversary and we were welcomed with Flowers, Chocolates, Champagne and a decorated floral bed, how beautiful. A special thank you to Temduang and all the staff you all deserve recognition.

Room Tip: My advise is go for the best room you can afford, either way you won't be dissapointed.
