“Lovely resort, family friendly”
Reviewed June 27, 2011

This hotel was really lovely. We stayed in the entry level room, it
had a lovely balcony with a very comfortable day bed, which was lovely
to sit on when it rained. The outdoor bathroom was good if a bit
inpractical.

The breakfast buffet was delicious. I particularly loved the
smoothies on offer. The service overall was very good.

The only gripe I had was that I there was no quiet place to relax. The hotel has two pools one that looks like a relaxation pool with a little lagoon around it and a spa gazebo and another very busy family friendly pool. It would be good if the hotel made the relaxation pool the adults only pool . I can't imagine it would be relaxing to have a massage by the relaxation pool while children play marco polo next to you, even if they are sweet.

The beach was also not fantastic and a bit dirty. This was not the
hotel's fault but unfortunately did detract from the experience. I
would stay here again, but wouldn't recommend it as a honeymoon
destination personally at least not during the school holidays. It
would be a lovely family resort though.

I liked the beach at Lamai more, even though this result was beautiful.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your holiday experience at SALA Samui Resort and Spa. I note from your remarks that you stayed with us back in January of this year so we are especially thrilled that even after six months you still took the time to write such favourable and gracious remarks about our property. It is always wonderful to read that guests find us to be a friendly place to stay and that our SALA team hereon the island were able to provide such exceptional service.
In January of this year the weather, as you may recall, was most unpredictable and unseasonal. We experienced considerable rainfall and high tides at the beach that brought with it lots of rubbish and debris. Our pool and beach attendants did an admirable job in keeping the beach area clean but it was certainly a challenge. January is also family holiday time for many guests from around the world and you typically do see more children at this busy period of the year. Honeymoon couples however, account for a large percentage of our guests all year round and enjoy our resort and facilities as much as families. Who wouldn't want to honeymoon in such a tropical paradise!
I acknowledge your comment about making our lap pool for the relaxation of adults only and this is something that we will take on board and certainly discuss.
Thank you most sincerely for expressing your points of view about our property and I hope that you will favour us again with your patronage when you next return to Koh Samui.

We have just had the pleasure of spending 5 days at Sala in Koh Samui. I was a bit worried prior to leaving for the Island when I read negative reviews and wondered if we had made the right choice. However, having now experienced the resort first hand, I only have good things to say! The resort is lovely- the staff are exceptional and I can wholeheartedly recommend this resort to anyone wanting to have a thoroughly lazy holiday, being spoilt and pampered! We stayed in a Sala pool Villa and it is great to have your own pool, though we did spent a lot of time at the resorts 2 pools. The outside bathroom was great, espesially as we have never experienced one before, and to lie in the bath with butterflies fluttering past is very special! The food and breakfasts were lovely and we made good use of the driver and car service that the hotel offers to take us into Cheweng in the evenings for dinner. We had massages at the hotel which were lovely- more expensive than those offered on the beach, but then they were in a different league! The staff at all times were fantastic- so friendly and accommodating. The hotel also provided Champagne and red roses on arrival in view of the special occasion. There are a lot of mosquitoes, but they are everywhere and Sala provides coils to burn and plug in burners and also sprays once a week to try and combat this. We took repellents with us and used these which also helped. We had to check out of our room at 12, but then had an 8:30pm flight to Bangkok and the hotel were really obliging in providing us with another room that we could shower and change before our flight. We had a great holiday and would recommend this hotel to all who want to be way from the hustle and bustle of Cheweng.

Room Tip: I would really recommend the Sala pool villas

We are currently staying at the Sala Samui Resort, although we leave early tomorrow morning. We have had a fantastic time and would love to stay here for ever! The resort itself is very peaceful and relaxing, just what you need after spending almost a year organising a wedding!! The rooms are beautiful and supply all that you could want or need, although I would have like a mirror in the bedroom to do hair and make up etc without having to use the unairconditioned bathroom as the bedrooms offer a welcome airconfotioned break from the warmth of the weather here. Our room was cleaned everyday without fail and was turned down each evening with a little bag of traditional Thai sweeties to wish you
a good night.

The Resort is perfectly located and they offer a taxi service that is no more expensive than if you were to try and flag down youown taxi! The resort is righton thebesch with two beautiful pools that are great way to cool down. The sea though is likes bath!! Not great for cooling down but still fab!!!

The staff of the resort are amazing and I would particulary like to make you aware of a gentleman that works at the beach bar. His name is K1. He has made out honeymoon so special and helped us discover so much more about the country than we ever could on our own! He is a great and we shall miss him lots. Thank you K1 for making the holiday so special.

So much more to say but too much to write on here, just know that should you book your holiday/ honeymoon here you shall not be disappointed!!!!!

My family and I travelled to Sala Samui to celebrate my son and his wife's third wedding anniversary. Our group totaled six people and included a grandmother who was 60 years old and a baby who was 8 months old.
When we arrived we were met with cold drinks at check in, and there was a bowl of fresh fruit in each room. Each room also had a television, telephone, internet access, and refrigerator stocked with drinks.
My son and his wife and baby were in a lovely, enclosed villa which included a private swimming pool where the water was constantly flowing. The bathroom for the villa was not air conditioned, but was airy and large. There was also a large roofed daybed and lounge chairs beside the villa's pool. Be sure to take mosquito repellant. The mosquitoes did not bother me, but they did bother by daughter in law. The resort does spray for mosquitoes each evening.
I was in an upstairs room with a lovely porch, open on one side, with a lounging bed and overhead fan. The bedroom was large, and about the same sized as the open porch. The full bath was big with a large bowl shaped bathtub and an overhead shower. The bedroom itself was airconditioned, but not the bathroom, or the porch. The porch had curtains which could be lowered if it was rainy. The rooms were very clean and pleasant.
The front desk was quick to find transportation into town for us for a visit to the interesting evening market even though it was a large group of six people including a baby and babystroller.
There were two beautiful pools available by the beach. The pool beside the restaurant was lighted and extremely beautiful at night during dinner. It featured a roofed children's pool. The large black granite pool by the spa had water that was constantly flowing over the edges like a fountain. It was a joy to swim in. Extra towels were available between the two pools. My daughter in law spent a half hour in the spa and enjoyed it very much.
The white sandy beach was beautiful. I ventured to the waters edge, but there were uneven rocks in the water beyond the beach, so I did not go in since I did not have shoes on to keep from hurting my feet on the rocks. The lounges and umbrellas on the beach were well maintained. It was a great place to suntan, relax, talk, and read a book.
The restaurant at the resort was excellent. Breakfast was included with our reservations, and I highly recommend it. It was a buffet breakfast with many selections, lots of fresh fruit, and a cook who would cook an omelet anyway you wanted it.
The friendly people who worked at the resort were very helpful and concerned that our stay went well, whether we were at the pools and spa, in the resaurant, at the beach,, or in our rooms. Our group as a whole, with our varied ages, enjoyed the resort.

Room Tip: I prefer the upstairs room for the evening breeze.

We stayed at Sala at the end of May and had very mixed feelings about the place. We have stayed in many 5 star hotels within Thailand and Asia and unfortunatly it isnt up there with the best. We arrived at reception surrounded by work being carried out on the pool that surrounds reception and it was just a mud bath that was worked on every day throughout our stay , staff emptying buckets of mud from the pool. This didnt create a nice relaxing first impression. We where not offered the free upgrade or gift offered by booking through Splendia, we where told there where no rooms available yet we passed many empty rooms every day of our stay and the driver who picked us up from the airport told us the hotel was 80% full. I have contacted Splendia regarding this, we later stayed at another 5 star hotel during this holiday where i booked through Small Luxury Hotels and was given the complimentry upgrade. The room felt dated and the plastic roof on the bathroom didnt look very nice, it was little things like stains on the curtains and weathered wood on fittings, the bath didnt drain away properly and was stained. The grounds where lovley and really nice to walk around and we loved the pool areas but unfortunatly the beach bar was being re build and building work going on all throughout our stay so no nice relaxing beach bar available, again we where not informed of this in advance and it did affect our stay. the staff where so lovley at all times as they always seem to be in Thailand and the breakfast very nice. The beach area is nice but the deralict land to the side of Sala wasnt nice to look at and the sheets of corrugated metal an eye sore. So overall Sala didnt meet our expectations and does have lots of areas to improve on , it could be an exeptional hotel but is ready for some upgrading on the deluxe rooms , i cant comment on the other rooms of course.

The feedback that you have provided on your recent stay at SALA Samui Resort and Spa is most appreciated. Thank you! I am indeed sorry however that you felt your holiday with us was a mixed bag and did not meet your expectations.
I acknowledge the work being carried out in reception upon arrival would not have given a welcoming first impression but unfortunately urgent repairs, caused due to a major leak in our lotus pool, could not be avoided. We attended to this matter quickly and with no disruption to normal services. I apologise for the inconvenience that it caused you.
You correctly stated that resort occupancy was in excess of 80% (and on some days over 90%) throughout your stay with us. Unfortunately no villas of a category higher than what you were staying in were available. A room appearing vacant does not necessarily mean that it is not being prepared for guest arrival later that day, or the following day and although we would of certainly have extended a complimentary upgrade to you as a Splendia client , this was just not possible.
Thank you for the candid remarks regarding the condition of your room. These have been noted and reviewed with the team here. Upgrading of the wood work and fittings in our rooms and villas is an ongoing part of resort maintenance. The new roof to our beach bar typifies the improvements we are constantly making to resort facilities and although this work took only a few days to complete, it was a disruption to the usually tranquil and relaxing environment. There is never a perfectly ideal time to do small jobs like this yet we do endeavour to schedule such work with as little impact on guests enjoyment of the resort as possible.
At our expense we are about to construct a fence in front of the vacant land to the left of our resort as I agree the rusting sheets of corrugated iron, that the owners of this property have erected, do not look nice when viewed from the water.
Thank you for such gracious comments about the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff. They do indeed try very hard to ensure that all our valued guests have an enjoyable holiday experience with us.

We are currently staying in one of the Sala pool villas, having arrived Tuesday afternoon.
Our initial impressions were very good and things only got better when we were taken to our private villa and pool. They seemed to have thought of everything from toothbrushes to umbrellas, it has all been finished to a very high standard.
So far, we have had two very relaxing days spent inside the resort. Day one at the "White" pool - very stylish infinity pool with great areas to relax in the water or in the shade. Day two at the "black" pool - stunning infinity pool surrounded by a pond with lotuses and fish, all of which makes for some fantastic photographs (to be added soon).
All our meals have been in the Sala restaurant which I can not fault fir service, quality and quantity (I have no idea what some of the other reviewers could possibly find fault with)
The staff without exception are some of the politest and curtious I have ever met (and we travel a lot!) - they are all a credit to the management.

In summary, this is a fantastic resort in a stunning location and has so far been the perfect start to our honeymoon.

We are treating ourselves to upgraded accommodation as of the 13th - the presidential suite. Not cheap but we hope it will be worth it to give us a honeymoon we will remember.
