“Fantastic...we will definitely return”
Reviewed April 3, 2012

We have just got back from 11 wonderful days at Sugar Ridge and can't wait to return! We have been to some fantastic hotels in the Caribbean and this was by far the best so far.

The best thing about this hotel was the attentive and friendly service from its staff. They are its greatest asset and something to be proud of. I really can't understand some of the reviews to the contrary as we found that they really couldn't do enough for us, took the time to get to know us and the service was always impeccable.

I really must say thanks to the staff for making our holiday so wonderful. Shirwin, Sparkle, Troy, Natasha, Rose, Clayon, Prince, Karleen, Oneill and everybody else there do a fantastic job.

The hotel is not located on the beach, but this really doesn't matter. The views from the rooms are great as you are in an elevated position and you never have to wait too long for the frequent shuttles to the nearby beaches, which are gorgeous. We preferred to sit and relax by the Sugar Club pool but did visit The Nest (Valley Church Beach) a couple of times.

The only potentially negative thing about being nestled into a hillside is that there can be a fair amount of walking / steps involved to get from your room to the facilities, but Sugar Ridge have thought of that and have a fleet of golf buggies with drivers who will take you wherever you want to go!

The food was out of this world. Carmichaels is a must; add in the spectacular view of the sunsets and you get a very special evening indeed. The only gripe we had was with the Sugar Club menu, which we were told would change every 6 days but didn't so you could get a bit of "menu fatigue" with there only being 2 restaurants.

There are only 60 ish rooms in the hotel which means it is very quiet and relaxing. It also means the place is very quiet in the evenings, so if you are looking for a party you may have to go outside of the resort. They do have entertainment on most nights, but again there weren't many people around.

A few suggestions to make the place even better:

1. Install a small outside bar at the Sugar Club pool. This would save the poor staff from traipsing upstairs to get trays full of food and drink in the intense heat! It would also make the service quicker and maybe attract more outside guests to use the facilities

2. More clarity is needed with the all inclusive option. We did query a few times what was included and what wasn't (e.g. is room service included / are the mini bar items chargable) and found that actually more was included than we had first thought. But more clarity would be better. We actually found the all-inclusive to be great and the supplements at Carmichaels were very reasonable (e.g. US$3 for scallop starter, US$14 for fillet steak). It's a different experience to other all inclusive resorts as you do see the prices of what you have had (you have to sign off your $0 bill each time, which is fine) so you do feel like you are getting value for money! There is no need to wear a wrist band for the AI plan, unless you go to the beaches.

3. We found that the AC units in the rooms were a bit too noisy to be left on all night. It would be worth installing quieter ones to ensure a cool night's sleep.

Thanks to all of you at Sugar Ridge for such a great holiday.

Room Tip: Lower numbered rooms are closer to the Sugar Club facilities and have better views

Many thanks for your very complimentary remarks. We were all delighted to read that you had such a great time.. We agree with your suggestion about a bar being nearer the pool area and this is something that is planned. To clarify the use of room serice and the minibar when staying on All Inclusive terms, there is a tray charge of US$12.00 to deliver room service and also a minibar restocking charge of US$12.00. There is no addtional charge for the food from the room service menus or from mini bar drinks consumed. Thank you also for you comment about the AC unit which is receiving out attention. We all look forward to welcoming you back to Sugar Ridge on a future occasion

I'm only joking! I discovered this beautiful hotel after reading about it in the local 'Enjoy' magazine. From the time that you arrive to the time that you leave, the staff are truly amazing; nothing is too much trouble for them. They know when to approach you, and when to leave you alone. On our arrival complimentary drinks were at hand. Even though our room wasn't quite ready (we did arrive a bit early), when we got inside, the room was a sort of Caribbean chic with a large four poster bed and tasteful furnishings. Our room was cool & airy, with the choice of using the air conditioning of an overhead fan. The bathroom was nice and spacious; and the veranda had a nice soft lounge to relax on.We decided to eat at the popular Carmichael's restaurant - a great opportunity for my wife & I to dress-up -; again, the food and service was faultless. I could go on about the pool areas, the spa & the gymnasium and the Sugar Club, but suffice to say that my stay at the Sugar Ridge Hotel was excellent, so much so, that I am making arrangements to renew my wedding vowels there ... KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!

Our package was all inclusive, so I can tell you with 100% certainty the food was supurb, the drinks were all excellent, and the service was outstanding. My husband said we will definetly go back - soon!!

Stayed here in February 2010. Sugar Ridge is a wonderful place to stay. The staff was amazing and catered to all of out requests. Special shout out to Vaughn, who is a delight and took us to a local spot for lunch & to see how the locals live. Sugar Ridge is one of the best places I have ever stayed in the caribbean and I am looking forward to going back in May 2012.

Firstly: Thank you Sugar Ridge Staff. This boutique hotel is situated close to Jolly Harbour just a 10 minute walk from 2 beaches or you can use the shuttle to go to 3 beaches all within 15 minutes. Beautiful Crystal Blue beaches. The Nest was our favourite beach as we could walk in 10 minutes & on hols you need some excercise.(turn left out the gate & walk till you see the Church, turn right for paradise) The 3 beaches are all supported if you are all inclusive. The 3 pools at the hotel are small but have lovely views up through the lush green valley. The infinity pool at Carmichaels is lovely to sit in the afternoon & have a beer looking at the views. Breakfast is served at Sugar club & is excellent, fresh juices & plenty if choice to suit most people. (recommend eggs benedict) The staff are so friendly, a special mention to Kleon, Sherwin & Carleen not forgetting Natasha & Janine. They also looked after us during the day when we were at the poolside, Thank You. Lunch was served at the same place, you can have it served by the pool if you wish. Afternoon cocktails when you have had enough sun served by Prince a magician with the cocktails. Two Old fashioned rum punches & all your cares drift away. (Thank You Prince) Evening meals at Sugar Club are excellent served freshly cooked no Buffet. Coconut Shrimp to die for. We preferred Carmichaels on the hill with an exciting buggy ride up & down. Food was second to none but served at Carribean pace which suited us as the wine & beer was cold & the views were stunning, watching the Liners float by in the distance. Marion & Fiona have a special mention as they were so friendly & kind. ( Hi to the three Z's & KeFI) You will have to get to know them to find out what we mean. The rooms are in blocks of four Lower 2 with plunge pools(ideal after the beach with a cold drink & watch the sun go down) Not the largest of rooms but adequately equipped, with nice artwork & first class toiletries. Shower was fine we had no issues withe pressure or temperature. Room 16 we had views of garden & sea, the higher you go the better the view but further to walk. Turn down service was lovely & if you asked they would top up all you need. Car hire on site (a must) Turn left out the gate & the road takes you to all you will need to see, English Harbour Shirley Heights, plus all the little beaches & the rain forest. No road signs but easy to get around with the map. Vorn the shuttle driver also does a nature walk, a must do, see all your herbs & spices in your jars actually on the trees. Fresh fruit & Rum before breakfast excellent. Just another BIG thank you to all mentioned plus all the backroom staff who you do not get to meet. Thank You Sugar Ridge.

Room Tip: Room 16 upwards.

We came here for our honeymoon in February after a winter uk wedding. When we arrived we were greater with a cocktail and a golf buggy to take us to our room. We booked the premium room which had the splash pool and was a stones throw from the infinity pool. Our room was bear the top of the mountain and had spectacular views. Originally we were in room 56, however due to some noise from the 'new homes project' we requested to be moved urgently as it as quite unrelaxing. Glen (deputy manager) and Keith(general manager) were both very accommodating with our move. Ww were not in the all inclusive option, however we chose to eat all but 3 meals out of 2 weeks in the hotel. We only ate at Carmichaels once but felt the food was a bit heavy and fussy this however is personal choice. The staff at the sugar club were very friendly and the chef would come out in the evening to see if you liked your food. One review said about lack of evening entertainment, I do not agree with this as we spent many evenings listening to the pianist or singers. The spa treatments we had were amazing and we treated ourselves regularly to these- some of the best massages we have had. The infinity pool is amazing we spent a lot of our time by this. We ended up in room 60 which all the staff say is their top room and I would defiantly agree with this. All I would say is we got a lift to our room every day because walking up in the heat is hard work. The guys on reception were always happy to drive us and collect us from our room if we were feeling lazy. Overall amazing honeymoon and beautiful resort. If you have problems while there they will get sorted just don't expect and instant result.

Beautiful boutique hotel overlooking Jolly Roger bay. SugarHouse has a great look with a real casual attitude.
Our bungalow style room was small but had all the modern convienences of a large hotel. We had a canaopy bed, marble walk in shower, mini fridge and a patio with a plunge pool. The bed was one of the best we have ever slept on.
The staff was very courtious and always made us feel welcome. We chose the all inclusive package and felt we got the best value possible. Morning, noon or night the food was beyond compare. The menu was very eclectic and the view at the top of the hill restraunt was priceless.
They have a shuttle that takes you to several different beaches each day where we enjoy the sand and surf. We ate at several different beach bars and everything was included on our all inclusive plan.
My wife and I have been to a dozen different caribbean islands and found Suger Ridge to be one of the best resorts that we have ever stayed at.

Room Tip: The rooms higher up the mountainside have the best ocean views
