“Our stay could not have been more perfect!”
Reviewed July 11, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

The description of this gite says it all; idyllic with magnificent views. From the moment we arrived to our departure a week later, our stay was perfect. Marianne and Brian welcomed us with a selection of local produce (including Marianne's wonderful homemade apricot jam!) and an introduction to what I have to say is one of the best if not the best equipped holiday rental property I have ever stayed in. They have thought of everything and the gite itself has been renovated to the highest level.
Although there was no view of the mountains when we first arrived, the following day we were just blown away by the sheer beauty and grandeur of the Pyrenean landscape that greeted us from the veranda. We subsequently spent many an hour sitting outside with a glass of wine just soaking up the view. That is of course when we weren't enjoying the pool! It was so nice to return to the gite and have a dip in the pool and sit poolside for a while.
I must also thank Brian for showing us some of the wonderful surrounding area on a 70 mile bike ride. It was so nice to ride virtually traffic free and with no potholes in sight! The Tour de France passing within a few miles was an added bonus.
Finally I should mention Monty and Maddie, the two lovely dogs that provided much entertainment for us.
A wonderful location to which we will return!

“The best independent accommodation I have stayed in in Europe - Stunning value for money”
Reviewed May 11, 2016 for a stay in May 2016

The hosts make this property. Marianne and Brian (and Monty the dog) put their heart and soul into this accommodation and it shows. The natural beauty of the area and views are some of the most splendid I have ever experienced anywhere in the world. We watched bird and animal life of all sorts throughout our time here including swooping Red Kites and local Lizards sunning themselves on the veranda.

In terms of the accommodation itself, the kitchen is kitted out to the highest of standards, the lounge is comfortable and the fire provides fantastic heat and the bedrooms are both large doubles and more than large enough for a couple plus all of their bags. The bathroom is newly appointed and spacious. Everything throughout is new and to a high standard. On arrival we received a welcome pack of food of local produce and a bottle of bubbles as it was my mums birthday. A really lovely touch.

We particularly liked the outside space either on your own private shaded veranda or in the communal area out near the pool. I have never felt so relaxed as resting in the hammock in this area with a book, no sounds other than the birds and the wind and the mountain views in the background. There are lots of walks locally where you can feel a million miles away from civilisation within a short time from leaving the gite.

The area itself is rural but not isolated. There are plenty of shops in Montrejeau just five miles down the road and plenty of other places within a 15 minute drive. A car is must however unless you are a cyclist (which this place would suit as a perfect place to rest weary legs). We visited the holy city of Lourdes, crossed the border into Spain and also a number of local towns and we were never in the car for more than an hour at a time.

Finally, the price. I can honestly say that this is the best value for money accommodation I have ever stayed in. I think the price is driven by the location more than anything but it truly is a steal. Only an hour from Toulouse airport and with the Pyrenenes on the door stop, it is the perfect relaxing getaway location and I would certainly have paid more to stay there.

An absolute must stay if you are looking for accommodation in this area.

“panoramic views from modern, charming and beautifully converted cottage”
Reviewed November 15, 2015 for a stay in November 2015

This is the second time that my family booked this 2 bedroom cottage in Loudet so that tells you how happy we were the first time!. The cottage is superbly renovated and has a beautiful new and clean bathroom and kitchen .Absolutely everything you need is supplied in the modern kitchen so that you can prepare all your meals at home. The bedrooms are full of character with traditional wooden ceiling beams and very comfortable beds. You will get a good nights sleep for sure. The cottage is detached , self contained and far enough away from the main house to provide privacy .It has its own porch area overlooking absolutely beautiful panoramic views of the mountains....The perfect place to sit and enjoy morning coffee . Brian and Marianne are excellent hosts and provide a nice welcome book with all the things you need to know about the surrounding area's - what you can do and explore and what towns have markets on what days .There is nothing they haven't thought of to enhance a wonderful stay and make you feel at home. The internet is very reliable at the cottage which is a big plus because this is rural France and not all hosts have this amenity. Lastly, the rental is great value and reasonably priced .If you get a chance to stay here take the opportunity because you wont be disappointed and you cant find better in the area. Thank you for being such amazing hosts

“Think we found absolute perfection in the Pyrennes!”
Reviewed August 14, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

From the moment we booked the gite 18 months ago to when we arrived , Brian and Marianne have been very helpful in answering our queries and making us feel welcome even before we arrived.

The gite has so very cleverly been restored with much thought, consideration and passion into making it the perfect escape for a holiday. Our children aged 11 and 9 loved the outside space as well including the beautiful pool which was ideal to cool down in after a days sightseeing. Perfect location for travelling into the mountains or just relaxing locally with walks and exploring the area. Marianne had provided lots of local information to browse through if you were new to the area like us and both Brian and Marianne were so helpful with advice on where to visit if you needed it.

The local produce selection upon arrival was very well received with the homemade Jam a huge hit with us all.

Its rare that you find perfection in both accommodation and the area but i think we have found it! Amazing stay and can absolutely recommend it to anyone else and we were very sad to leave after a week. We will return however for longer next time!

Thank you, we thoroughly enjoyed having you and look forward to welcoming you again in 2017. You did the right thing to rebook that much in advance. Next year's summer months are already pretty booked up, but for anyone flexible on dates, springtime and early autumn can be wonderful for a relaxing holiday or for walking in the mountains. Or rent our cottage as a cosy retreat for Christmas and New Year, with the woodburner lit and a lovely dinner prepared in our fully equipped kitchen, just sit back with a glass of wine and enjoy!

“Well-equipped, comfortable, great views and fab pool!”
Reviewed July 14, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

This 2 double bedroomed gite (one room had a Queen bed which could easily sleep 3 children) was the ideal place for us to stay. Privacy was maintained, even though the owners' house was close by, with an outside table and chairs unseen from the main house. The pool was beautiful, all one depth for easy swimming. Marianne and Brian have prepared the gite thoughtfully and thoroughly, mindful of extreme weathers; from a BBQ with charcoal to a wood-burning stove in the lounge along with wood to burn. The gite even had its own WiFi network!

Thank you, it was a real pleasure having you as our guests. We aim to be available to our guests as much as necessary without being intrusive. The Gite is a perfect space for a couple as a relaxing and peaceful retreat, but still big enough for a young family or two couples holidaying together. Guests can be as private as they wish or socialise with us if they want to, we are happy either way. Our goal is that guests feel so at ease and relaxed here that they would like to come back.

“Truely wonderful location! Views that never tire!”

On arrival we knew at once that we had made the right 'gite' choice! The whole location was perfect with wonderful views over the snow capped Pyrenees. Our hosts, Marianne and Brian made us very welcome and made us feel at 'home'. In fact Marianne had added a Christmas tree and the log burner was ablaze on our arrival. So welcome after a 1000 mile drive! The gite is so well equipped with a high standard of décor as well as retaining period features. The bathroom was warm, cosy and of a very high standard. The mattress was very comfortable too!
Such a peaceful and stress free location, where you can be as active as you want or as relaxed as the mood takes! The memories of sitting on the patio, eating a leisurely breakfast, watching the sun rise over the snow-capped Pyrenees will stay with us for a long time! As well as watching the sunset, again over the Pyrenees in the west, at the end of a day of exploration. Even in winter, there are so many places to explore and wonderful walks with fabulous views. We divided our time between exploring the valleys and Cols in the Pyrenees and walking in the hills around Loudet. All the 'hamlet/village' walks are signposted and designed to be circular with views where possible of the Pyrenees. We wore walking boots as it was winter but I expect in summer trainers would be ok. The walks followed some roads but were along paths and tracks where ever possible.
Over in the Pyrenees there was lots to do and see. We don't ski but the gite is a perfect location for access to several ski resorts as well as cycling routes. Cycling is Brian's passion and he is able to offer lots of valuable advice on routes for all cycling abilities. For days out, once in the Garonne Valley you can turn left or right onto the A64 (it is a toll road, though round Tarbes it is free) and head to Toulouse, Tarbes or Pau, all easy to reach. The Atlantic or Mediterranean coasts and Spain are also accessible for a day out. But for us there was enough to do locally to fill out our two week stay.
Musts: a visit to Lourdes and the Pyrenean fort on top of the hill in Lourdes, closed over the lunch period (in winter at least!). Mauvezin chateau, which is reconstructed but a magnificent place to visit with superb views of the Pyrenees. Saint Bertrand-de-Commingues, a wonderful monastery sitting proud on its hill. The spa town of Luchon. I could go on, but for us the best sites to visit were the Grottes of Gargas, open all year but you need to book a visit as these are restricted due to the sensitivity of the cave ecosystem. Gargas caves contain the best preserved and the greatest number of prehistoric man's stencilled hands and several engravings. But it is the trip, by cable car from Mongie ski resort, to the observatory on top of Pic de Midi. At first glance the price seemed steep 36euros each, but it was so worth it. We were lucky to go on a 'sunset special'! Where the cable cars ran for an extra hour so to include the sunset. Though be warned, even in summer it is much colder at the top (2877m) than in Mongie. For us it was -12c plus wind chill compared to only -6c below! The views were fantastic.
A location we will definitely return to and we have visited and stayed in many places in France over the years!
