Excellent address ( Hôtel du Grand-Mont) and not far from Mont Blanc. This is a hotel as well as a restaurant, simple but very clean and very well run. Food portions are big and you are asked if you would like more too !! Prices very good for the region and for France, even at peak season. Set three course menus start with a cost around 14 - 16 euros, excluding drinks, per person.

We were staying in the ( normally winter) ski resort of Les Saisies, in the Savoie region of France, 20 minutes drive from Beaufort where this hotel and restaurant is situated. Very friendly staff. Market days are Wednesday and Friday, and parking is at a premium on these days, so avoid them unless you wish to look around the market. Local wines, quite drinkable, start at just over 3 euros a bottle. The cheeses of the region include Beaufort itself, Reblochon, and Tomme de Savoie, are very tasty.

Annecy is only an hour or so's drive away and the Lake there and the old town are gorgeous.

Two hours by car from Geneva airport in Switzerland, a little less from Lyon, St. Exupéry.

“The best in Beaufort”

Whether for lunch or dinner the Grand Mont cannot be faulted for traditional Savoie cooking. I beleive they have had the same chef for 40 years and he has certainly mastered his trade. Always a choice of several plats du jour and the desserts are certainly not nouvelle cuisine. Three generations of the same family work here and the rest of the staff is very pleasant and helpful.

“I love this restaurant!!!”

All the years I came back in this little hotel/restaurant, The rooms are not very beautiful, the bath is too little, there is not elavator, but its is not important the hotel is 2stars, however I can guarantee that in this place you can find the essence of french spirit! It seems to be 50yeas ago! The owner is very kind and the food it is great, you can choose typical savoyard specialities like a gratin, salade beaufortain, beef...and price are not high.
To enjoy the meal you must to be very hungry!

“Busy local restaurant serving honest Savoie food.”

We had lunch here on market day (Wednesday) when the restaurant was packed with shoppers and stall-holders (so we were glad we'd rung ahead). For 15 Euros each we had: delicious cheese tart (Beaufort, of course) or terrine and either diots (local sausages) or trout, with either pommes dauphinoises or pasta gratin. It was a good thing that we went for the 'starter + main' choice and didn't order a dessert, because there is no way we could have made room for one. In fact, we couldn't finish all the pasta, good as it was. (This was probably the first time in our lives we have ever been too full to finish a meal.) The coffee wasn't very good, but we felt we'd had good value.
