Unfortunately I have to waste my time to write a review about a bad experience at Hotel Villa Royale last week.

It was a business trip and I was suggested to book this hotel. The conference organizer has negotiated good price so I decided to go for it.

I emailed them the day before asking about early check-in option. I never heard back from them. I wouldn't mind to pay a bit more just to check in a bit earlier. I traveled all night long and got to the hotel around noon, where I was asked to wait in the lobby till 2pm.

I was surprised to learn at the front desk that my initial room price was increased by 40%. When I showed them my booking confirmation with a lower price they agreed to correct it. The price on confirmation should be final. Trying to squeeze more money at the front desk is kind of weird.

I was fine with the room standard, but there was no heating in the bathroom. In consequence there was a lot of mold on bathroom walls and in the shower (see attached picture). You don't expect that for 100+ euros a night. Or do you?

The evening before departure I requested a wake-up call at 6.15 am (I had a morning flight). Front desk clerk wrote down my request, but never called.

I also asked for a receipt the evening before departure in order to expedite my trip to the airport). I was told that it will be prepared over night and will be ready to pick up in the morning. But that didn't happen either. So I had to wait for this 5-10 minutes.

I can go further with complaints, but I leave it here.
Stay away. There are better hotels in Brussels for less.

Hotel was perfectly adequate for my 3 night stay in a familiar city, although perhaps a little way from the centre and main sights. Room was clean if a little small. Free Wi-Fi was good. Staff friendly and helpful. Would stay elsewhere though when returning to Brussels.

Room tip: A few doors down you can stock up at Carrefour - prices reasonable and much cheaper than in the centre.

Even tough our room was small, it had everything we needed: flat TV screen with international channels, blow-dryer, mini-bar fridge, towels, toiletries. The bed was cozy. Breakfast is 10 euros but totally worth it to pay. It's a buffet breakfast with a large variety of options. Wifi signal was intermittent sometimes. There is a metro station very close (3 minutes walking). The staff was very nice and helpful.
One piece of advice: do not go walking to/from gare du nord bus and train station because you will find the red light district on your way and it doesn't seem like a safe area to walk by.

We really did save the best for last. After 10 days in Europe , brussels was our last destination and this hotel formed a huge part of why we fell in live with the city.
Very kind and helpful staff. Especially the man at night. And then we met him again the next morning to check out. It was a short stay but the city's main attractions can be done in a day , strolling down the streets with plenty of time to just absorp the city and sit down to have a bite to eat every now and then.
The rooms are very comfortable. Cozy cushy beds , clean bathroom and .. Just perfect. And for a very reasonable price.
Supermarket with very reasonable prices just around the corner. It's less than 3 mins walk from the nearest metro/ bus station.
Tv( not that we needed it) blowdryer , free wifi, breakfast not included but again we left very early so didn't need it, they helped us with a little planing and maps but we arrived at a very busy time ( check out) so i understood and just needed one to point the city center for us.

I suppose I got one of the "better" rooms at the back of hotel, do not not about others. My room was small, but cosy with good mattress, nice and big TV , spacious bathroom (toiletries like shampoo and soap provided). Silent. At least I slept very well and did not hear any noise.
- no view from the room whatsoever, just a narrow inner courtyard;
- bar did not seem to be operational as the hotel was busy and there was just one guy to deal with everything; but then I did not ask. If I had asked they could have opened the bar for me, I guess.
+ very good location in a relatively safe part of the city and right next to metro station;
+ very good breakfast for just 10 euro - fresh fruit and veg, toasts, eggs, cheeses;
+very clean;
+ very nice staff.
From what I have seen so far in Brussels this is one of the very few candidates for possible coming back.
