“Fabulous hotel in a perfect location”
Reviewed January 28, 2014

We stayed at the Thon between 24/01/14 and 26/01/14 and I would recommend it to anyone. We arrived at 10.30am and expected to put our suitcases in the luggage storage until check in but to our delight the reception staff told us our room was ready and we could check in now.

The room was a good size and the bathroom was very spacious. The television in the room has BBC1 and BBC2 but not a lot else in English. The green idea if you are staying more than one night is a really nice touch. The room was also spotless and the temperature of the room was just right as well.

The location couldn't have been better. There is a city sightseeing bus stop right outside the hotels front door. There is a supermarket next door and if you are going to walk into the centre it will take you at the most 10 minutes.

I read other reviews for the hotel and they all seemed to criticise the staff. I couldn't disagree more. Every member of staff that I encountered was more than lovely. I asked for extra pillows, directions to different places, the best way to get to Bruges as we were going on a day trip and a couple of other things and the staff couldn't have been nicer. They always had a smile on their face and remembered when we had asked about Bruges as a couple of days later the same receptionist asked if we had gone to Bruges and had a good time, not bad considering the hotel has 29 floors. I also asked what time check out was and was told it was 12.00pm but we could stay in our room till 2.00pm for no extra charge if we wanted. You don't get that at every hotel.

The 2 computers with free internet in reception was also a lovely change as nearly every hotel I've ever stayed in they charge you. Of course you get certain guests that take liberties with the free internet. I came downstairs at one point and there was a child watching a film on one of the computers with other people waiting to use them!

On the day we were leaving our flight wasn't until the night so we asked if we could leave our suitcases in the luggage room. Again this was no problem and no extra money was charged.

The only thing to note is that you have to pay a city tax per night you stay which is not included in the room price. It is approx. €6.50 per night.

Overall a fantastic hotel, close to all amenities and fabulous staff.

Dear traveler,

We thank you for your positive evaluation of your stay with us at the Thon Hotel Brussels City Centre.

We are pleased to see you had an enjoyable stay and that you value our location, our infrastructure and especially the service which your received from our staff. We will definitely share your feedback with them.

We are also glad to hear that you appreciated the free early check-in. If we have enough clean rooms when the hotel is not fully booked, we offer the extra service, where we can. Of course this is always upon availability and is not a guarantee. It all depends on the occupancy of the hotel.

As you noticed during your stay, we are concerned about our environment and take specific actions. One of these actions is indeed to invite our guests staying for more than one night to not have their room cleaned. In exchange, a 5 € voucher is given which can be used at our bar. But you can also donate this voucher to GoodPlanet. This organization teaches youngsters to live in a sustainable way.

The city tax is indeed 6,40 EUR per night per room and in general not included in the room price. You should find this information on your booking confirmation.

The hotel is centrally positioned, at the outside of the inner city, very close to the cultural city centre and with all main means of public transport close by: metro in front of the hotel, as well as the bus stop and the railway station at a 5 minute walk from the hotel.

We are looking forward to welcoming you again upon your next visit to Brussels.

Best regards
Elke

Dear traveler,

We thank you for your positive feedback on your stay with us at the Thon Hotel Brussels City Centre.

The rooms and public areas of the hotel were recently renovated and we are glad to see that you appreciate the new image. Our rooms have different sizes. We have the standard rooms, which are the smallest rooms, but we also have superior rooms and suites which are remarkable bigger than our standard rooms.

There is an underground parking underneath the hotel, which does not belong to the hotel but we can offer you a 5% discount at our reception.

At our breakfast we offer a wide variety of fresh and local products and we have both a hot and cold buffet available. We are happy to read that you appreciated the offer.

We hope we’ll have the pleasure of welcoming you again with us upon your next visit to Brussels.

Best regards

The hotel is very well located, great price and nice design and green thinking There is a wonderful view from the Rooms (those on the left side of the corridors) and from the Sauna (and they do have a sauna, indeed!). Metro access is within the building.
Nevertheless, the services and staff are not always up to the level of a 4 star hotel: the breakfast is very expensive and tv, wi fi and room services are very basic. Adressign question to the reception staff was very complicated, probably easier to phone from the room rather than going to the desk!

Room Tip: Rooms on the left side of the corridor, they do have a nice view!!

Dear traveler,

We thank you for your feedback on your stay with us at the Thon Hotel Brussels City Centre.

We are sorry to hear you did not receive the expected service from our staff and we do apologize for any inconveniences. If you feel you do not receive the adequate service, please do not hesitate to ask for a supervisor, such as the front office manager or duty manager, who will be more than happy to help you with all your questions.

The hotel is indeed centrally situated, we are at a five minute walk from the railway station “Brussels North”, where you have train connection to any place in Belgium and the metro station is just in front of the hotel which allows to move around in Brussels. If you come by car, you can park underneath the hotel and through the elevators you have direct access to the hotel. The hotel offers you a 5% discount on the parking fee, if you have your ticket validated at the reception.

We regret to hear you think the breakfast is too expensive. We believe we offer a good price/quality buffet with many fresh and local products. During the year, the breakfast is at half price in the weekend, and for those you who do not want a copious breakfast, we also have our quick breakfast for only 9 euro, which includes a coffee or tea, an orange juice and 3 pastries.

We do not have room service as we do not have a restaurant, we only offer the possibility to order breakfast in your room. The leaflet has to be hanged out on your doorknob, so that the night staff can collect it and the breakfast staff can prepare it for the requested time.

On our new flat screen TVs, we have a wide variety of TV channels, apart from the Dutch and French channels, we also have BBC1 and BBC2 for instance. There is also Pay-TV available if you feel like watching a movie of your choice.

As you noticed during your stay, we are concerned about our environment and take specific actions. One of these actions is indeed to invite our guests staying for more than one night to not have their room serviced. In exchange, a 5 € voucher is given which can be used at our bar. But you can also donate this voucher to GoodPlanet. This organization teaches youngsters to live in a sustainable way.

I arrived around 10;30pm after a very long day. The receptionist was rude and not helpful at all despite having my credit card details already this wasn't adequate and different details were apparently required after a few moments he finally agreed there was already details on the room.
The bar area was very large unfortunately this wasn't open as the hotel had low occupancy. This seemed to be done as a cost saving exercise at the loss of guests comfort.

Wifi connectivity was poor making it difficult to do work in the room.

Now the room! It was clean and spacious with good wardrobe space, the bathroom was large and modern it was a lovely space and the shower was powerful (needed after a long day in the office!) the rooms were very clean and coffee and water provided each day. A small fridge was also in the room this was a really nice touch.
The downfalls were I had two singles pushed together with single quilts! When paying for a double I expect at least a double quilt!

The other downfall was ventilation, the room is provided with comfort cooling but there isn't any outside air it results in the room feeling stuffy just having trickle ventilation on the windows.

The breakfast is absolutely brilliant! A great selection of fruit juices, coffee and tea a large Range of eggs and fried items, pastries, bread, cheese, meats (even smoked salmon!) there's even a waffle maker!! A real shame the restaurant isn't open for dinner or offer room service especially as it seems to cater for business customers.

Area is good, with a taxi station a few minutes walk away with lots of restaurants in the area.

Dear traveler,

We thank you for your feedback on your stay with us at the Thon Hotel Brussels City Centre.

We are sorry to hear you were confronted with some inconveniences upon check-in and we do apologize for this.

We are happy to hear you were satisfied with your room and its cleanliness. However, please do not hesitate to open the window if you feel the room is stuffy. If you should need help with this, you can always contact the reception. The windows are not opened on a daily basis, as we prefer to keep the room temperature at a certain level.

We have double rooms with both double bed matrasses and single bed matrasses. A double room is not necessary a room with a double bed. Please do not hesitate to specify your preference upon your reservation and we will be happy to accommodate you in a room with a double bed if we have availability.

The bar of the hotel was indeed closed during a certain period, as the occupancy of the hotel did not allow us to open it. There was a light service available for those who wanted to have a drink. In the future please do not hesitate to ask the reception and one of our members of staff will be happy to help you. Nevertheless, we do apologize for the suffered inconveniences.

We are aware that in some rooms the WIFI does not work up to speed. We are in contact with the provider to install supplementary antennas in the hotel to guarantee better coverage and speed. Please do not hesitate to ask for a room change to improve your WIFI coverage, so you can work more comfortable in your room. Please accept our apologies.

At our breakfast buffet we offer a wide variety of fresh and local products and we have both a hot and cold buffet available. We are happy to read that you appreciated the offer.
The restaurant is indeed only open for breakfast. There are plenty of restaurants in the direct neighborhood, which offer you different cuisines.

The hotel is indeed well located, with all means of transport in the direct neighborhood: train, metro, bus and taxi.

We are really sorry we could not convince you of our hotel, perhaps one of our other hotels is more what you are looking for. Please do not hesitate to consult our website.

This hotel was pre-booked for me and the location was perfect especially since I arrived before any of my colleagues so was on my own. The Brussels North Metro was practically next door with an easy transfer to the Central Station so getting around the City was easy. Although the restaurant only served breakfast, you could stoke up on the ample fare before starting your day. A huge mall with a food court was practically across the street and there were other cafes and restaurants including the one in the Sheraton right next door. Although the room was a bit small, it was satisfactory and very clean. An encouragement to "go green" was clever...leave the special "don't disturb" tag on your door (if you're staying more than one day) and you got a 5euro coupon for a drink at the bar! Speaking of the bar...it was a fairly large, open area (behind a curtain of beads) right in the lobby tended by a great Scottish bartender. On Tuesday nights it was Happy Hour with a live band and room for dancing. Drawbacks..room internet service was slow even if you paid and there were only two computers in the lobby area...no real business center. Also...few elevators so you needed to get on one early if you had a deadline to meet. A PLUS...excellent service from friendly and very helpful Staff, the area was safe and a great starting point from which to explore the city. I'd stay there again anytime!

Room Tip: Rooms on the higher floors gave a great view of the city. Rooms on the lower floors allow you to wal...

Dear traveler,

We thank you for positive evaluation on your stay with us at Thon Hotel Brussels City Centre.

We are delighted to see you had an enjoyable stay and that you especially appreciated the service of our staff. We will certainly pass this on to them as we do our best to make the stay of our guests as comfortable as possible. It is nice to hear that we succeed in this goal.

As you noticed during your stay, we are concerned about our environment and take specific actions. One of these actions is indeed to invite our guests staying for more than one night to not have their room cleaned. In exchange, a 5 € voucher is given which can be used at our bar. The hotel is indeed centrally situated, a five minute walk to the railway station “Brussels North”, where you have train connection to any place in Belgium and the metro station in front of the hotel which allows to move around in Brussels.

Our hotel, as well as our bar were recently renovated. We opted for a modern and colorful look. We have a "Happy Hour" on a daily basis between 17:30 and 18:30 and on Tuesdays we organize the “Thon Music Sessions” in our bar, every week a different band playing live music. These mini-concerts are free of charge and available to everyone who likes live music and a good atmosphere.

We do apologize for the inconvenience.

Our business center is situated in the conference area, where you can find 2 more public computers with printer. In total we have 4 computers with free internet for our guests.

We have in total 7 elevators, 4 in the front and 3 behind the corner, which tend to be overseen by our guests and are more likely to be found unoccupied.

We are looking forward to welcoming you again with us upon your next visit to our capital.

A disappointing experience. On the positive side the rooms are clean, modern and functional. The hotel is also well positioned and good views from upper floors. But this is a 4star hotel and on the negative side, the restaurant service only offered breakfast and the bar remained closed. It will not open until 20 Jan (when more people are booked in the hotel it would seem). Breakfast itself was "tired" - hot food dried out and cold meats curling at the edges by 8a.m.
Wifi is only offered free for one hour then at a daily charge. Tea and coffee facilities in the room but with no milk. A small fitness facility with little better than domestic standard equipment.

Dear traveler,

We thank you for sharing your opinion on your stay with us at the Thon Hotel Brussels City Centre.

Despite the fact that we were not able to fulfill your expectations completely, you appreciated our rooms and their cleanliness as well as the position of the hotel, which are both important factors on choosing a hotel.

The restaurant is indeed only open for breakfast, which you can also find on the hotel’s website. There are plenty of restaurants in the direct neighborhood, which offer you different cuisines.

We are sorry to hear you did not like our breakfast. Dried out food at the buffet is definitely not our standard and we do apologize for this. We will pass on your remark to the F&B manager, so that he can have a better eye on it in the future.

The bar of the hotel is indeed closed for the moment, as the occupancy of the hotel does not allow us to open it. There is a light service available for those who want to have a drink. Please do not hesitate to ask at the reception and one of our members of staff will be glad to help you. We do apologize for this inconvenience.

Our individual travelers have indeed one hour of WIFI free of charge, afterwards it’s currently with a daily fee of 6,95 EUR. If you book through our own website, the WIFI is offered free of charge during the entire stay. We also have 4 lobby computers with free internet, for those who do not want to pay for the WIFI.

We have indeed coffee- and tea facilities in the room, together with milk cream in powder form. Please to not hesitate to address our reception if you want normal milk to put in your coffee or tea. We are more than happy to give it to you.

Our gym is equipped with a new multifunctional weight-lifting machine, which combines different weight-lifting machines which you can find in a professional gym. Our cardio machines are checked on a regular basis, but it is true they are not new. We have one machine of each cardio machine you find in a regular fitness studio. Of course you can not compare us to a professional gym, we just offer the possibility to do a complete workout on the machines you would use in a fitness studio.

Perhaps one of our other hotels Thon would suit you more, please do not hesitate to have a look at our website.

We do hope we'll have the pleasure of welcoming you again with us or in one of our sister hotels.

Best regards
Elke
