“Superb front desk staff, and excellent value, a few tips below”
Reviewed September 12, 2012

Marion, the front desk manager, happily responded to our request to see our room, and allowed us to check in a few hours early, at no extra cost. She was charm itself, as were the other front desk staff, who spoke excellent English, and were always very happy to help, in any way they could.
Our room (708) was very comfortable, great king size bed, very clean, and very quiet. We had a deluxe room at the end of a corridor, chosen so it would be quiet. It was part of a very cheap Eurostar package.
If travelling on Eurostar, you can get a connecting train to Gare du Nord, from Gare Midi, courtesy of Eurostar ticket. Just following signs for Centre/Centrum on leaving Gare du Nord.
HOWEVER, get a taxi if arriving when dark (cost 14-20 euros), as Gare du Nord, and areas east and west of hotel are full of winos/homeless/hotels that rent by the hour etc. BUT don't let that put you off. The street leading to the Grand Place and all other attractions, is FINE and trouble free, only a ten minute walk, and there is a shopping precinct with a big Carrefour (only one in central Brussels) just opposite.
Breakfast is Excellent, e.g unlimited freshly squeezed orange juice, and unusually, SUPERB COFFEE, self dispensed from an espresso machine. We mixed espresso with capuccino to replicate our perfect coffee. Would happily stay there again, certainly for the price we paid.

Room Tip: Some travellers have complained about noise. Would suggest a room at end of corridor, on high floor...

Wasn't sure what to expect when I first arrived at the Hilton Brussels City, as from the outside it doesn't look anything special - somewhat overshadowed by the Sheraton opposite, and even the Crowne Plaza next door. However, once you step inside, you can't really help but be impresed - I loved the cleanliness, design and atmosphere inside.

The good first impressioins continued with our check-in experience - sadly, I didn't get his name, but I thought the receptionist who checked us in was great. Seemed friendly, and willing to spend ages checking us in, checking the room was ready, and giving me lots of useful tips and information for my first visit to Brussels. Wish I'd taken his name, as he did create a really good impression of both the hotel and Brussels.

The room itself was clean and nicely decorated. Not huge, but big enough. The bathroom was fairly small, but again, fit for purpose. We had a room on the front of the hotel - not much of a view as overlooks a bit of a building site. Bed was very comfortable - I had a good night's sleep, although it was interrupted a couple of times by police car sirens going by on the main road near the hotel.

We walked to the hotel from the Gare du Midi (Eurostar) - it's a long walk (especially if you get lost because your travelling companion takes you off in the wrong direction) but not unpleasant. We were in no real rush, so thought it would be a nice way of getting to see a bit of the City. The Metro or trams are probably a more sensible option - Rogier station is right outside the hotel. We found the metro and trams cheap, fast and frequent - €2 for a single trip or €6 for a day at the time of our visit.

Breakfast at the hotel was a fairly usual Hilton affair - it was busy, but we got a table straight away, a pot of coffee already waiting on the table for us. Breakfast is the usual buffet - nice to help yourself to whatever you fancy, although I found it a bit curious there were no sausages, only chicken meat balls (which were actually delicious, and tasted like sausages!). Usual selectoin of cereals, fruit, pastries, etc are available as well as the cooked items.

We loved Brussels - there was a lot going on the weekend we were there, and we found plenty to see and do, without feeling overwhelmed or tired out. It's a fairly small city so most things are walkable, or a short Metro ride away (for example, to the Atomium). We visited the market at Gare du Midi on the Sunday - well worth a visit. We spent a nice few hours on the Saturday evening sampling the Belgian Cherry Beer at a couple of bars - highly recommended.

In summary - no 'wow' factor at the Hilton Brussels City, but everything just as it should be. I'd have no hesitation in recommending it.

Hilton Brussels City was great. It's in a great location near the train and within walking distance of major attractions. It's also very close to bus stops which makes it very convenient for travelers. The room was very comfortable and spacious. The breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of choices.

Booked as part of Eurostar package out of London.First room given to us was so small we requested another room.
2nd room on hilton priviledge floor was better, but still small(although we have travelled europe enough to expect small rooms)
Buffet b/fast was average....don't be afraid to ask staff to have poached eggs cooked as they did this without any hesitation.Champers for b/fast if required.
Good location for shopping, but Brussels "dies"on sundays.....no shopping and CBD like a desert except for wandering tourists with nothing to do.
Shopping centre 100metres away....reasonable food court and supermarket for bottled water, coke and nibblies at much better than hotel prices.
Brussels is a typical "political" capital.....sterile and following 3 nights in Bruges,we found it a disappointment.

Room Tip: ask for upgrade room

Location perfect, only a 10 minute walk to grand place. Nice area in comparison to other parts of the city. Foyer/bar/restaurant very modern and staff very attentive. Room was basic for 4* and mini bar extortionate so be aware as no price list (we asked for it at the reception water was 8€). We had a guest double reserved which was twin beds pushed together with ?sofa cushions as pillows which were as wide
As they were deep. Bathroom needed a good thorough clean. Sauna and steam room lovely (first floor). Chocolate mousse in restaurant is beautiful. Breakfast great however we had this included would not have paid 30€ nor 409€ for room. Overall a good stay but wouldn't recommend the hotel (or Brussels as was a bit boring).

We stayed as a group of friends on a Eurostar offer so stayed at this hotel for a heavily discounted price including breakfast.

Staff were wonderfully helpful, recommending a fantastic modern Mediterrean restaurant for our first night (Publico). We had a small disaster when our return Eurostar tickets went missing but the receptionist was lovely and contacted Eurostar on my behalf to make sure that the tickets could be reprinted.

Our group had three seperate rooms, I was disapointed to find that my room (631) was much smaller than my friends' (618), even though we'd all paid the same price.

I was also disapointed to find that the electricity wasn't working in the room (631) so as moved to the same room one floor up (731). Staff were efficient and very polite about the problem but it would have been nice to be offered something eg an upgrade to make up for the inconvenience of moving after a long and very humid journey.

Room 731 turned out to be very very hot as the air conditioning wasn't working.

Breakfast was generous and very tasty but the hotel was very busy and this led to long queues, especially for the tea and coffee machine.

The bar is very tastefully decorated and with a great drinks selection, but as a tip, the barman is very reluctant to open bottles of wine. I ordered Sauvignon Blanc and the barman did not ask which one of the two Sauvignon Blancs on the wine list I wanted and opened the Chilean. When I said I wanted the French, he refused as he had already opened the bottle of Chilean. On another night I ordered another glass of wine but as he was refused to pour a whole glass of wine, as this would have meant opening another bottle of wine. Why this is a problem in a bar of a busy city hotel, I don't know.

Hotel was great for the discounted price, but I don't think I would go there for full price!

Room Tip: Room 618 was very generously sized! Looked out onto the street though so slightly noisier.

Arrived in Brussels on Eurostar via train from Midi station to Nord station & a ten minute walk to the hotel.
The staff on reception were vey welcoming & gave helpful suggestions on what to see & where to go on our three day stay. Our room on the seventh floor was very comfortable & clean with a large bathroom. It was in a quiet part of the hotel so my wife & I were able to have a good nights sleep.
Breakfast on the ground floor was quite busy but you were always able to find a table. A reasonable variety of breakfast fare was available (hot & cold buffet). Staff at times were finding it difficult to cope leaving a few tables needing clearing for incoming guests. Why do the toasters never seem to work properly?
We did enquire about evening meals but thought them slightly pricey with limited choice and only a small open restaurant area.
The hotel itself is in a good location within walking distance of the main shops & sights. We also used the nearby underground for travelling further afield.
We enjoyed our stay, all staff were very helpful & we would certainly consider staying again if we ever return to Brussels.
The flower display in the Grand-Place was amazing (on once every two years)

Room Tip: maybe a room on a higher floor for a quiet night !
