Hotel BLOOM!
Reviewed March 14, 2012

The rooms were clean, modern and bright. There was no issue with any noise from outside or within the hotel and the service was perfect with no interference from staff. Rooms are only cleaned and reset if you choose them to be (door hangers provided to ask rooms to be left alone), a safe for valuables and complimentary bottles of sparkling water in the fridge are nice touches.

Apart from the slightly 'out of the action' location (approximately 25 mins walk from Grand Place etc), there really is not much fault in this place.

Highly recommended.

“Nice chairs!” The Girlfriend cooed and pointed excitedly at the two 60’s retro style egg shaped hanging chairs in Hotel BLOOM!’s spacious reception. I was quietly relieved having successfully negotiated the large automatic revolving door without re-enacting the scene from ‘Return of the Pink Panther’ where Peter Sellers' Inspector Clouseau gets himself trapped headfirst. These funky chairs set the tone nicely, as Hotel BLOOM! is a stylish, trendy, retro experience.

The staff are all young, cool, and good looking, with unusual names like ‘Angel’, and ‘Night’. They’re also extremely friendly and helpful, and of course, speak perfect English. They even kindly let us have a free late checkout. And best of all, there’s an infinite supply of delicious complimentary apples, although they aren’t retro.

Our room, the King (standard room with a king sized bed) was a generous size, with a retro (I’ve really got use a different adjective, nostalgic, maybe?) yet stylish feel. All olive greens and off-whites, with our very own snazzy 60’s style swivel armchair, that was surprisingly comfortable. Of course it still had all the mod cons expected: flat screen TV with ipod dock thing, safe, small fridge, free Wi-Fi, A/C and an uber cool coffee maker with complimentary coffees. One told The Girlfriend her hair looked nice, another asked if she’d lost weight.

Although Hotel BLOOM! is a 15-20 minute stroll to the main city center, it is just two minutes from a metro station and situated directly adjacent to the Botanical Gardens. Something I discovered the next morning when I flung back the curtains to reveal the Garden’s huge dome staring up at me like a giant Cyclops. Startled, I jumped backwards, tripped over the snazzy 60s style swivel chair’s footrest and landed heavily on the bed, thus putting myself in further disfavour with The Girlfriend who happened to be on it at the time putting her face on.

As expected, breakfast was not cheap. “€20 each for breakfast! €20 each for breakfast.” I kept repeating like a demented parrot. On top of that, the hotel’s two restaurants ‘OO!’ (Meet to Eat) and ‘SmoodS’ (Living room, kitchen and music) looked so achingly trendy I was far too terrified of making yet another faux pas and embarrassing The Girlfriend further to even suggest trying. “Calm down, you’ll have one of your spasms.” The Girlfriend warned. “There’s a Carrefour Express opposite, we can grab breakfast from there.” Which we did. Fresh pastries, juice, etc. All reasonably priced and very handy. Although, they did have the typical sporadic continental opening hours.

Overall, Hotel BLOOM! is a cool, retro (throwback? I give up then) themed, modern hotel - I’m aware that’s a contradiction, but you get the point, right? My only very minor gripe being it is a little out of the way, but with all the free apples you could possibly eat, it’s worth it.

We had to change rooms because an unbearable smell of cigarettes came into our room at night. Bummer.
Room as such was spacious, clean and decorated with taste.
Breakfast is good except for the scrambled eggs that were not eggs at all if you ask me. But beside that plenty nice things to eat.

Me and my management teams stay at Hotel Bloom was an excellent experience. We concluded our visit to Brüssel with a 1 day internal seminar using the meeting facilities at Hotel Bloom. I can fully recommend it – everything was OK and the lunch was healthy!
The only thing to consider staying at Blooms is breakfast – 25 euro is a little expensive!

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel.
Only two remarks.
Putting a flat screen television in the room with receiving mostly snow on all channels makes no sense.
Bathroom is not as trendy as the room. Ours was big, but looked old and could have been cleaner.
Overall a fair price and well located in the city.

I spent one week in the Bloom. The rooms are large, confortable and differently decorated by a young artist. The location is good, near the center. Also, there is a computer room, for me very useful. I would like to come back, next time!
