“Rustic and cosy”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 27, 2014 via mobile

Stayed with a group of friends in two of the apartments and everyone loved the place. The units are very spacious, even the 1 bedroom ones, with a great living room, kitchen and fireplace. We didn't cook, but we were surprised to see that you had a lot of utensils, plates, etc.
It is located in a hill with great views to the city / sea and the surroundings are the most pleasant. Ok to walk to the center but not hard to find taxis (hospital right next to the main entrance, just have to walk downhill to the gate). Would definitely recommend to groups of friends and couples.

We stayed at Quinta De Valverde recently and were initially delighted but the screeching of the owners 30 plus exotic caged bird’s only metres away at about 0500 each morning spoilt the experience. The owner/managers refusal to respond to my enquiries was rude and unprofessional at the very least. The receptionist was sympathetic and admitted that the birds had caused similar complaints before then said "occasionally". The little property we stayed in was the only detached one of 5 and a delight- almost, actually exclusive compared with the other four as they face the access road before they overlook the town, or the back of the detached bungalow in one case, but nothing can quite compensate for the awful noise of the screeching honking hell of the poor creatures in their cages at such a very early hour of the day. The complex is on a promontory overlooking the port and town a steep access road will make the walk back challenging. Taxi's cant take you to the top because of security gates so walking or driving are your options. the hospital is the first building the shopping centre the next then the station. I can imagine that when it was first built the main house had uninterrupted views of the lovely old town. Viana its self is quiet clean and elegant, the surrounding area and towns etc are a treasure chest of the delights of beautiful coastal and inland North Portugal.

Room Tip: Earplugs- and try to get the detached bungalow might as well be in the best one when the birds start...

We were on a road trip when we found this gem. Dogs were welcome and the staff were amazingly kind and helpful.

The first time we only stayed 1 night, but the following year we returned for 5 nights. It is the most relaxing location we have found on our travels. Well equipped with everything you could possibly need for self catering. It is not cheap but it is well worth the extra Euros for such an amazing location and the privacy afforded to the guests.

Last years excitement was one of the feral cats had a litter of kittens during our stay so every morning we would troop out to peer into the bushes to try and spot the Kittens but not disturb the mother. Our dog would stand guard protecting the area. The birds can be a wee bit noisy but it adds to the atmosphere.

We love it here and hope to return next year.

Room Tip: The individual apartments are great. Only recommendation is put on the anti mosquito devices before...

We stayed there for 5 nights in early July 2012. The units are spacious. Ours was furnished in a rustiic style. The grounds are very nice and the views from the property are lovely, but some units have much better views than others. The swimming pool is excellent...in a lovely garden location away from the units. There are a few things to be aware of. Firstly the owner keeps a lot of caged birds on the property. These include Peacocks, Swans and Pheasants. You have to be OK with this and OK with the noise. Some cages are within 40 metres or so of some units. The walk up the hill from town takes about 15 minutes and just be aware that it's steep. Our unit had a small bed and it squeaked loudly just getting in and out. And lastly, our unit had an adjoining door from our bedroom to the living room (we think) next door. We could hear the conversations next door very clearly. To summarise, the location is very nice, with good views generally from the property, but there are some down sides.

Although the panoramic views, the woods, and the cries of the chickens, peacocks, and grouse make you feel like you are in the middle of the countryside, this quinta is just a minute up the hill from the city center. It really was the perfect spot to relax with a book, enjoy the private pool (there was nobody else there when we were!), and have simple homecooked dinners together as friends.

On the other hand, it is also the perfect place to use as a base for exploring the Minho region. We were just 15 minutes from an absolutely stunning (and also largely deserted) beach, and we spent a lovely morning wandering around the medieval streets of Viana do Castelo. You could also make easy day trips to Braga, Guimaraes, or even Galicia, Spain if you wanted to.

Or, just relax in the cottage-- it is so homey, and comfy, and well-appointed. We felt so special staying there, and the staff was absolutely wonderful. I know we will be going back again, and next time staying even longer. The whole region and the quinta felt like a truly undiscovered gem.

We stayed there on our trip thru Portugal. I love Portugal Agro Turismo places, and this was definitely a jewel. Everything was okej, very pleasant apartments, nice and friendly people (which speak very good english btw). The only drawback is the location. Its not so easy to find, what is a plus but also a minus.

Room Tip: Print yourself a map or get a GPS equiptment.

Minutes from the city centre; this "casa rural" is set inside a beautiful, lush and well kept estate with an aviary of game birds, ducks and even swans. The traditional garden is adorned with a sizeable infinity swimming pool with beautiful views to the Atlantic, the town, beaches and sand dunes. The vistas are somewhat spoilt in places by glimpses of heavy industry at Viana´s busy port area. However, don´t let this put you off by any means. We stayed (4 adults, 2 children, 1 infant) at the Villa (which can house upto 8 adults-(officially), or 6 comfortably in my opinion. The house is well equipped and in good shape, though my cleanliness rating was lowered simply because the house was really in need of a good dusting-other than that, the facilities including the kitchen and two bathrooms though dated were nevertheless acceptable. The Villa is cosy and enchanting (in typical Portuguese style-lots of wood)! There is a fireplace, a sitting room, a separate dining room, a bbq area (outside of course) and 3 bedrooms. The only real complaint we all had, was that the beds were really quiet small and very uncomfortable. Nevertheless, all in all I would highly recommend this place.
