This hotel overlooks a beautiful natural beach with sand dunes and wild flowers, with each room having a sea view. The hotel is a little tired but is in the process of being reburished. The young couple who run the hotel along with their staff make sure that your holiday is enjoyed to the full. It is very clean, comfortable and the food plentiful. Marianne, our Rep was excellent. She made sure that all our needs were catered for, was very knowledgeable of the areas visited, always found time to talk to you and in a nutshell she was the best rep we have ever had. Give it a try you will not regret it.

Room Tip: middle floor rooms are cooler in hot weather.

The hotel is right on a sandy beach on it's own and a rural location. From the outside the hotel looks good but inside the rooms are a little tired particularly the bathrooms. Refurbishment is slow but when completed removing those old brown bathroom tiles it will be a litle gem.
Food is fine and the young couple that run the hotel pleasant enough. cost of wine/beer certainly cheaper than in the UK. day trips are good and plenty to see. Oporto with a river cruise and visit to Sandeman port lodge / Ponte de Lima andVianna Do Castello lovely places to visit / also Douro Valley best day with a visit to Pacheca DeQuinto vinyard. (all with Newmarket) Marianne our rep is excellent and cannot praise her enough. Nothing was too much trouble and she was so informative both at the hotel and day trips that there was no need for questions. For the energetic there are fine walks in each direction from the hotel - 20 mins on the boardwalk to the nearest bar etc/ supermarket 5 mins / and 45 mins walk along the cos tand road to Pavoa Varzim. Great value for money week away.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms have a great view but are tired. Land view rooms at the back are all being refurbishe...

This was a one week holiday with Newmarket Travel taken in June 2013
This hotel is very basic e.g. no air conditioning and very much in need of re-furbishment.
The rooms were clean but very dated.
Because of the wind (mentioned below) we found our room very noisy as the windows and door
rattled as did the guttering just outside of our room.
The hotel is located on the beach, which on our arrival looked absolutely wonderful until
you step onto it and get blown away by wind which on certain days was really vicious.
Apparently it is always windy, not a complaint but an observation for anyone
thinking of spending their time on the beach.

We stayed on a half board basis.
Food was only average, breakfast was of the continental style. Dinner was poor, and a set menu, apart from one evening when a buffet was provided which was very good.

As we were out every day, apart from two which were spent at the hotel, we managed with the lack of facillities but would have found it really difficult if we had just stayed at the hotel.

The young couple who run the hotel are very welcoming which was a very nice touch and they are trying to update the hotel but there is a long way to go yet.

In all we we enjoyed our week in Northern Portugal but this was mainly down to meeting nice people and visiting lovely places. This hotel is ideal as a base for touring but not for the
lazy beach holiday.

We went with Newmarket Travel and thought the hotel was refreshingly unfussy! Loved the location right next to the sea, but sea was most of the time too rough for swimming unfortunately. My husband went on most day trips, but I remained and painted pictures on the beach and then did the pool thing. Very enjoyable! Food adequate but needed a bit of spicing up - too little nice Portuguese cheese for instance and not enough fresh fruit (after all it does grow on trees there!). Nice family atmosphere though, and further improvements are promised....... i.e. reception and more rooms, and gardens? But you gets what you pay for! and we thought it was terrific value and a lovely way of seeing a very lovely part of Portugal (and a bit of Spain on the trip to Santiago de la Compostella) and we met some very nice people along the way. Congratulations to Marie Ann the courier for a magnificent job by the way. Boy did she sell that holiday for most of us!

Room Tip: All riins face the sea, but some of the end rooms face up the coast towards Povoa and perhaps don...

Excellent holiday at this isolated beach located family hotel which is 2miles from the nearest town, although a bus service runs upto 8pm and taxis can be ordered.
A good choice of buffet breakfast and a three course evening meal every night with an excellently priced bar.
The room was large with sea view and was cleaned every day although some of the furnishings are getting a bit tired looking.
All the inclusive and optional tours are very good value and highly enjoyable.
Definitely recommended if you like peace and quiet with great surroundings and good daily trips out.
My estimations of this hotel would be a 3star rating by British standards.

Would support the good reviews and comments made by other visitors. This is a special venue not least because it seems remote while you are staying there but actually is no great distance from the centre if that is required. If we visit again would try the local metro which we think runs along the coast line north and south.
It is wrong to generalise about nationalities. Having said that, the local people we met were without exception friendly and helpful. Maybe a little conservative, not exuberant in front of visitors, but that is just an impression. Our stay there was like stepping back in time, no sense of being 'ripped off' or treated like a commodity, despite the current economic situation.
The hotel has a remarkable location, right on the beach, and to wake up and go to sleep to the sound of the sea is very special. Worth a stroll along the beach 'broadwalk' and observing the great variety of flowers growing in the sand.

The hotel is situated directly on the beach which is great, although would be rather isolated for those wanting alternative bars/restaurants to those in the hotel. We were on a half board package and found the food to be acceptable, but not exciting. There was a good choice of local wines at reasonable prices, and knowledgeable staff who were friendly and helpful at all times. The public areas have been partly modernised, but the rooms are dated and tired, requiring attention. The hotel provided a good base from which to explore northern Portugal which was beautiful.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the pool/sea get more sun. A renovated room would be preferable (if any exist)
