“take a boat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 5, 2013

We kept finding ourselves back down at the river, either for port tastings, twilight walks and finally we took a boat. It is beautiful and with the Unesco site Ribeira on one side and the wine caves on the other it feels like the heart of the city. The boat ride was our final experience and a wonderful way to sum up and leave Porto.

“The Douro River upstream of "Cachão da Valeira" until the border with Spain - u must see before u die”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 2, 2013

The Douro River is probably pretty throughout all his course. Because I live in Porto, I find it difficult to be objective about the section of the river that passes through Porto. But objectively I can assure that the Douro River upstream of "Cachão da Valeira" until the border with Spain (around 80 - 100 Km), is stunning, exceptional, unique. You have to settle down somewhere on the upper Douro Valey (I'm not updated about the currrent options), and I would suggest somewhere near "Barragem do Pocinho", which is more or less the halfway point of the route mentioned above. Than rent a small motorboat for 3 to 4 days, and take a look at one of the most beautifull places in the world. You'll find amazing places to practice water-skiing. The best season of the year to do this, must be through late Spring time until middle of September.

“Try a cruise in a "Rabelo" typical wine boat...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 26, 2013

In Porto there is nothing to dislike. It is one of the most important rivers for the idea of one IBERIA. You can always try to book a 1, 2 or 3 day cruise, tasting the absolutely delicious above-gourmet Portuguese food. There are excellent harbours for you to have some excursions into famous Manor Houses, where Hollywood people like to stay in secrecy... Sip and taste Port wine whenever you feel like. And coming back down the river is another great experience because you get to see Porto Bridges in its full splendour...Enjoy it!

“Magic scene”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013

Porto history is all over river Douro. One of the wonderful views that people will never forget.
I will probably walk from Sé, go to take pictures in the Luis Bridge (you can cross, where the subway is) then going down by gray little streets and old houses till get to river .

This river is amazing and by doing a boat tour you'll find really interesting stories about Porto. I highly recommend.
