Beautiful scenery, very relaxing and very well looked after by the crew. Staterooms had floor to celing windows so vineyards etc were always within sight. I didn't realise there were so many locks on this river and these added to the excitement!

Due to the high waters, the Duro was closed during the first week of April and our Cruise turned into a Bus tour to the Wineries and sites along the Duro. Bus is not the best way as the roads are slow, narrow and winding, making for long rides. But the wineries and guides made the best of a awkward situation as this years Spring rains were unusually heavy. From the vistas, this is really an impressive valley to travel and enjoy the vineyards. AMAwaterway, generously provide a full refund credit and we plan to try again in the future.

The Douro Valley is a spectacular landscape. If you are visiting Porto it's well worth a longer trip to explore the valley upstream of the city.

We took a super trip with the Rota do Douro company - Douro Nostalgico. We took a train ride to Regua and then had a 6 hour journey on boat downstream to Porto. The trip included a very generous amount of food and drink on board, a good 3 course meal, with super and friendly staff. It was excellent value for money. The scenery is super and it's a great experience to travel on the river through such a stunning landscape, and see how it changes as you approach the city of Porto.

Whether you are into wine or not, a visit to the Upper Douro wine region is so spectacular that one cannot fail to be impressed by its beautiful landscape.
If wine is your passion as well, then the combination of a Douro Valley tour and tastings/tours through a couple of port lodges at Vila Nova de Gaia in Porto will deliver a magical experience. We had a private tour at Ferreira, which was just fantastic and would highly recommend EcoTours for a visit to the Douro Valley.
