Mario is very helpful on arrival.
The setting is fantastic with your own little terrace to watch the world go by (especially the boats on the Douro).
The apartment is clean and functional but you don't need anything more with Porto on your doorstep. Its a short walk away from the main tourist bits which is no bad thing as sometimes it is nice to escape back to your terrace.
One word of warning. It is on the 4th floor with no lift so you need to be quite fit.
Not central but close enough to all the important places. You will need to walk to see Porto at its best and, as its built on the steep sides of the river, there are plenty of hills.
The apartment is in a renovated block that has been redone to a high standard.
It had almost everything we needed and was comfortable throughout.
Mário ensured that we reached the apartment safely and were made aware where the local supermarket was for supplies.
We had a great time in Porto and Mario's warm welcome at the (non-central) Campana bus station and help in settling in at his apartment were a big part of that. We loved the apartment, adored the easy access to lovely beaches via the 500 bus that passes by its door, were pleasantly surprised to discover a brand-new, ultra-modern laundromat next door, exulted in a splendid run along the Douro again by just stepping outside that SAME door.... our ONLY (very slight) problem was a lack of sheets for the bed, but we figure that there must have been some sort of one-time oversight/confusion in that regard. A GREAT place from which to explore a fascinating old city, and the four flights of stairs are really NOT that bad at all -- you even get to observe some very interesting rock formations on the way up!!
We were met at the airport by the owner, Mario. He spoke great English & pointed out places of interest on the way to the apartment. Having explained about things we needed to know within the apartment, he left us to settle in. The apartment was spacious and light together with being well equipped with all mod cons(minus a toaster!!). Sitting out on the balcony with a glass of port watching the world go by was very relaxing. The location of the apartment was great. The No 500 bus which takes you up the coast towards the beaches passes the apartment as does the tram into the Ribiera district. Also, the red open top sight seeing bus stop is only a 10 minute walk either way. It was only a 12-15 minute walk to where the action was to. Porto was a lovely city with plenty of things to see and do. Thanks again Mario. Hope to see you again some time.
Great apartment for 2 in a lovely position near the old town and Gaia for the port houses. Mario was a great host and unexpectedly met us at the airport and took us to the apartment as he was in the vicinity. The apartment was clean, well laid out and all we could have wished for a long weekend in the city. As stated there is no lift and you will need to climb to the fourth floor, not a problem for us and the views more than made up for the climb. Local supermarket within walking distance. Would definitely recommend this place
The view is irresistible of course! The location also works well - old town charm and in walking distance of transport, shops, restaurants, laundrette and main Porto sights. The apartment is modern, airy ( with terraces front and back) and Mario is a very helpful host. He collected us from the train station and responded promptly with local knowledge when we contacted him. The apartment is on the fourth floor (hence great view) and stairs could be challenging for older people with luggage. Mario assisted with this when welcoming us to the apartment.
We enjoyed our six days in Porto very much.
We have just returned from a week staying at this lovely apartment which is in a very central 'old town' location on the river front. The apartment is in a quirky old building but is light and modern inside. It very comfortably sleeps 2 people but can accommodate a further 1/2 on the sofa bed in the living area (though probably best for a short stay). There are small outside terraces at the front and the rear. The apartment is a great base to explore the city - very handy for all the attractions and local transport. As previous guests have commented it is on the 4th floor up a steep staircase - so not good for people with mobility issues. Thankfully this is not a problem for us . The 4th floor position means the front outside terrace has a fabulous view of the river - perfect for an al fresco meal and watching the world go by. There is a supermarket about 10 minutes walk from the front door and a host of restaurants and bars within easy reach (yards to be honest). We enjoyed a great meal at Papavinhos (take a right out of the apartment and it is a couple of minutes walk away). Turning left and about 2-3 minutes walk Armazem is a pleasant spot. It is an old port warehouse that is now an antiques store with a very nice cafe bar. Walking a little further along the river you will quickly find the Ribera with tons of bars and eateries.
If you enjoy cycling there is network of easy cycle paths taking you out of the city along the coast to Foz, Alternatively if you don't mind a longer ride you can cross the river to Gaia and cycle down the coast as far as Aguda - Zizzis restaurant in Aguda is really great. We hired bikes from Vieguini Cycle and Scooter hire (located right on the cycle path), the bikes are good quality, well maintained and they are very helpful.
The apartment owner, Mario ,is the most pleasant and accommodating man you could wish to meet. Nothing was too much trouble. He even picked us up from the airpot and gave us a short tour of the city so we could get our bearings. We had a wonderful week in Porto which is a great place to visit and would love to stay here again.
