TRYP Porto Centro Hotel
Ranked #45 of 108 Hotels in Porto
Reviewed April 10, 2013

There is no doubt that the best Tryp Oporto Centro has to offer is the very friendly and service-minded attitude of the staff. The facilities are ok, and I suppose do provide value for money. But as far as a business hotel goes, I probably can not recommend it. It is a hotel suited for leisure travelers.

Room Tip: There is a great little restaurant across the street. Try it.

Very nice, confortable, kind staff. Parking (so useful in Porto). The location is good, you can easily move by foot to visit the city center.
Briefly: nice place to stay in Porto! I would surely think about this place for a future visit to the city,

Nice clean modern rooms and hotel staff was very friendly and accomodating. My wife is in a wheelchair and the handicapped room and bathroom were accessible. Breakfast was very good. Staff helpful with directions to sites/metro/restaurants etc.

HI,
Stayed there 3 nights. never had bed bugs in my life. i thought for 2 days it was allergy from food . the third night i woke up in the night and found tens of bedbugs in the bed.
The staff put me in other room (without bed bugs). The next day i have been refunded, however they tried to refund 1 night our of 3 but i insisted in full refund and they accepted. They were embarasased. i am suffering a lot and i am considering asking more than simple refund. i am covered by bites!!!!
Unless they seriously take care fo the problem this hotel is to avoid.

Room Tip: 201 has bed bugs, do not know about others

Our car navigation system took us flawless to the frontdoor of the hotel, where we parked the car in the hotel basement, using an elevator. Make sure your car is not a big one, because it's all very small down there. The reception is right behind the door and pretty small, but the service very friendly. It looked to us, that some staff were actually trainees, but they all gave us a happy feeling. We made a reservation for a standard room for 2 nights only 3 days in advance, but it was no problem to get an upgrade to a more luxury room. That room (306) wasn't really all that luxurous, but very big, with a nice bathroom and most of all, it was very clean. However, the room had only one small window, overlooking a side street. At first it looks the hotel is located in a bit run down area, but in fact the whole centre is like that. Well at least for people like us, coming from a well maintained country like Holland is. But perhaps this old and shabby look is Porto's main charm. The beds big are good and so was the breakfast. Plenty of everything, but no fried eggs?! It 's definitely worth the money. If it wasn't for the steep walk back to the hotel from a night out at the banks of the Duoro, we wouldn't hesitate to book it again in future.
A smart alternative is to take a taxi, which can't be very expensive, because the hotel is only 2 km away from the river, where most of the entertainment and tourist attractions are. Because we spend both days walking Ribeira (Centro Histórico), visiting the Caves across the river and toured the city, using the sight-seeing busses and finishing it off with a boat trip, we decided to have our evening meals (around 9:00 PM) nearer to the hotel. In fact there are two small restaurants just 15 mtr from the hotel in the same street and we picked the one accross the street named "Solar d' Alegria". A family run restaurant, serving extremely large portions of authentic local, tasty food, in a inn-like ambience for affordable prices. Luckily you can order small portions as well.

Room Tip: If you booked a standard room, ask for an upgrade. We got a room spacious enough for a dance! Becaus...

Thank you for taking your time to comment on your stay. It´s true that sometimes we have trainees in the hotel, because every year we offer the opportunity of training new persons.
In fact we don’t have fried eggs in our breakfast, only scrambling, but we are trying to find new options and that can be a product to bare in mind.
We hope to see you in a near future

Best Regards

It is situated in a run down area & up very steep hills from the city. The reception is very small but the rooms are a good size & clean. They seem to have difficulty in catering for coach parties & give times that you must be down for breakfast, so that they can deal with one party at a time.Breakfast was a shambles, as they ran out of things & didn't replace them until the next coach party, so just bread rolls one day! The toaster is so slow that you need to plan at least 15 minutes before you want it. The electic kept going off & they had to keep putting the trip switch down.
