“Take a few steps away from River”
Reviewed October 31, 2013

Excellent service, affordable prices and no tourist. This place can't be beat. We found this place on our last day in Portugal and it was one of our best meals. We had iberian ham, grilled octopus and squid, garlic prawns, fresh goat cheese and lots of wine. All for less that $40.

“Exceptionnel!”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

We first booked Papavinhos ranked 6/474 in Porto.

When we arrived there, it as empty, felt a bit overpriced. We took the way back to the city and stopped in Cozzza Rio which was quite full but also looked great with affordable pricing (around EUR 10 for fish, EUR 10 to 15 for steak etc.)

This was for a romantic birthday date and we've been positively surprised by the service as much as by the food.

Some of the dishes were no more available when we arrived (late, around 10PM). The waiter didn't hesitate to recommend or dis-recommend some dishes. The white wine recommendation was just the best white Portuguese wine we drank so far.

My girlfriend took a dorada. It was big portion and super tasty according to her.
I took a steak in porto reduction with pepper taste. I didn't strongly believe in it at the beginning and expected more a hamburger in a porto sauce with 3 pepper balls on top BUT the meat: a fine filet of steak as much as the sauce, a real reduction of Porto and the real pepper taste in it (like marinated I don't know how they do) was JUST AMAZING!!

Portions were reasonably sized for you to not think about the dessert menu after the main dish.

If you have an opportunity to visit them: don't think, JUST GO!!

The staff sounds really nice, the service is helpful and I will remember the food for a long time!

“We were maybe unlucky”
Reviewed June 28, 2013

We tried to eat sardines, it was an horror. Dry... maybe cooked too long ago
We had never eaten such disgusting sardines.
Just ate the potatoes and vegetables.
We also had to wait a long time for the bill.
We almost left without paying as the service was zero.
In our opinion a place to avoid.

“Great pizzas and friendly staff”
Reviewed June 12, 2013

We tried to find a nice dining restaurant very close of our Hotel Dom Henrique and found this nice restaurant. Very good and tasty pizzas and seafood. Tiramisu is also worth trying and You won´t be disappointed. Highly recommended restaurant with good prices. We will be here again when coming back to Porto.

“Away from the tourist traps”
Reviewed May 30, 2013

This restaurant is just above the river away from the riverside tourist restaurants, with a good number of locals enjoying themselves. The food, service and atmosphere were excellent. We would definately visit Porto and this restaurant again.
