“Traditional Portuguese cuisine with a modern twist”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 30, 2013

We stumbled upon Andor Violeta by accident while we were looking for another restaurant in the neighbourhood. It was the cosy interior that caught our attention!
The menu is limited, which is always a good sign, and shows a variety of fish and meat dishes; all traditional Portuguese dishes but with some modern elements added to them. Do try the codfish with breadcrust, potatoes and spinach... it's fingerlicking good!!!
Friendly personnel // great wines // beautiful interior // smooth music make Andor Violeta a true hidden gem in oPorto. They definitely raised the bar for the rest of our culinary experiences in oPorto.

“Unexpectidly high quality restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2013 via mobile

After a week of continuous dispappointments with restaurants in both Lisbon and Porto, this experience was a relief. We ordered the veal tornedo and were satisfied although the portions could have been bigger. The meat was quite tasty, but the potato gratin was fairly average. Overall good. FYI, this restaurant seems to be the meeting point for the youg posh society of Lisbon.

“Great value for money in a cosy setting”

They do not have a lot to choose from, but in my experience that is a good sign. Approx. 20 for two courses and a glas of wine.

“A Gem of Porto”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 27, 2012

We never would have noticed a small Andor Violeta in the string of few cafes on Carlos Alberto street if not the recommendation of our hotel receptionist. We asked for a nice place to have dinner and he said this was his favorite in town.
It is definitely a gem of the town and worth finding. It is a small, artsy - or better yet - design restaurant that is perfect for a nice dinner, a date or even a special occasion. The menu is fairly limited, but you would find a choice of a few meats, fish, pasta or a vegetarian dish - so at least one of each if you have any dietary restrictions.
Staff is friendly and non-intrusive, food is good, wine is tasty even if you're ordering a glass of simple table one. Restaurant has limited seating inside, but there are a few table outside too. The interior decor is a mix of minimalistic white with rustic doors, frames, and a few plants separating the tables.

“Excellent location and value for money”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 26, 2012

Andor Violeta is a unpretentious restaurant in Carlos Alberto Square, in Oporto’s downtown. We went there for lunch. There were 6-8 main dishes to choose from (fairly limited, but all looked delicious). We had a delicious vegetable soup for starters, then I went for vegetable cannelloni with brie and béchamel (couldn’t finish it because it was a bit heavy, but very tasty and with many different vegetables inside) and my mother chose “crocante de alheira” (filó pastry with a Portuguese sausage inside), which came with some vegetables (“grelos”) on the side. For desert, there was again a limited list to choose from, we decided to share a cheesecake, which was not very sweet, exactly like I like.
We ended with two expressos. The whole meal costed us 22€ in total (with one bottle of water and 2 glasses of wine), which was an amazing price, given the quality of the dishes.
It was a very pleasant lunch! I’d only point out that the service, although extremely careful, was slow. But we weren’t in a hurry, so it didn’t matter. We just sat back, relaxed and enjoyed the vintage ambience of the place!
