At first you think that the hotel is a bit outside the main city which turns out to be an illusion. The reception is excellent and very friendly and forthcoming with information on various subjects regarding your stay. Excellent garage on the premises. Great accommodation with fully modern rooms with all the amenities that you can expect.
The restaurant is one of the best and the breakfast is outstanding.

A very state of the art bedroom and bathroom. Electric controls for curtains and blinds. Enormous TV with pay for facility. Large and comfortable beds and an extremely spacious bathroom with screened off toilet and separate power shower plus bath with hand shower. Water provided and tea and coffee making facilities. The staff were attentive. A bit out of the centre but with a walkable metro station and the modest taxi fares making it worth hiring a cab.

This is a high quality hotel as you would expect from a Sheraton. Delightful public areas, extremely comfortable and well appointed rooms. Staff are excellent.
Now here are the considerations. In the immediate vicinity there are no other options to eat or drink so you are pretty much captive. Sure you could get a cab into the centre but then you may as well stay there. There is a nice bar and garden but the price of drinks are fine if you are on expenses but painful if you are not. 8.50 euro for a beer will keep you within the daily alcohol intake more effectively than any advertising campaign.
We stayed here as part of a tour group and dinner was included. Limited choice and had to pre-order a few days ahead. The food was at best indifferent and at it's worst inedible. The real menu looked very exciting albeit with top end prices. I am sure the offering here is really good or the restaurant would be empty. It is such a disappointment to have indifferent food when you know that the kitchen is capable of more.
So if you are on business expenses or have loads of money and like posh pubs then stay here, otherwise head downtown.

Arrived at the hotel at 3:15 and was told that our room was not ready and wouldn't be for another hour. Normally this would be upsetting and disqualify the hotel from an excellent rating but I must say the staff went out of their way to make us comfortable. they explained that the hotel was completely booked. They sent us up to the lounge on the restricted floor where we sat comfortably as their guest, watching TV, snacking and drinking the local wine until the room was ready. The room was spacious and comfortable. The food in the hotel was very good (we were part of a tour group arriving a day early). The breakfast buffet was very nice.

From start to finish - our two Sheraton, Porto stays lived up to (almost) every expectation! The front desk crew and concierge were wonderful, with good advice and leads, and all spoke fantastic English. Our room was fun and comfortable: the FUN = electric privacy blind between the bathroom and bedroom, and switch-activated block-out blinds; the COMFORTABLE = bed and duvet; giant tub with super-sized towels, and a fine in-room coffee machine.
Don't miss watching the counter-weight elevators - they are a true "Porto sight" in and of themselves!
My quibbles involve the fact that the front desk never had small change for "tip money" (dumb!); and that the "New Yorker" bar inside the Sheraton was way too expensive.

Room Tip: If your room is high (above 6th floor), request something that is not directly above the construction in adjacent lots as your view.
