Very good location , a very helpfull and friendly staff speaking 4 different languages. The room is little but vrey clean and functional.
The breakfast is not very rich bot its OK. The rooms are maybee a little bit noisy , because you are in Avenida dos Aliados.

My husband and I spent ten days at this hotel while traveling in Porto and to points in the area. The staff was VERY friendly, helpful and prompt with any questions or concerns we had. (My husband speaks Portuguese, but they speak English and French as well). The room was tidy and clean, had A/C, a TV, hairdryer and great shower. The ceilings were very high and the room had space for a couch, large armoire and small desk. Our view was out of the back of the hotel, but that didn't matter to us. There was some noise from the street and live music events on the weekend and seagulls, but it's not too bad. The mattress wasn't the most comfortable in the world, but for vacation just fine. From the lounge and right out the front door you can see the huge Plaza Dos Aliados. We did not eat breakfast at the hotel, but it did smell good. There are a ton of cafes within a few blocks of the hotel, plus a metro stop, churches and the ticket counters for the hop on/off busses. There is a parking garage across the street where you can put your car (make sure to get the hotel discount). A great location, comfortable accommodations, and knowledgeable staff!

Room Tip: It seems (from the floor plan) that the rooms are different sizes, so you may (if it's important...

We arrived after a very long journey from Harwich UK, after a Norway cruise.
The girl on reception was very pleasant and made our check in effortless. When we made our Booking via Booking.com I requested room 504 or similar. We were very surprised to receive our requested room which was large and had 2 floor to ceiling doors that opened up onto a balcony that overlooked the fantastic Plaza Dos Aliodos. The room was not at all noisy as the doors were double glazed. The bathroom was nice and fresh and the shower perfect to soak under, after a days touring.
There is a lift in the hotel and a large sitting room. Breakfast was good with cereals, breads, jams, ham, cheese etc. The coffee was very good too.
The position of the Hotel is excellent for older tourists, as a lot of Porto is hilly. Hotel Aliados is on the top of the hill and on the flat. There are lots of restaurants around the Hotel and the Hop on Hop off buses stop just outside the hotel.
We would thoroughly recommend this hotel to all travellers.

Room Tip: Ask for room 504 or 505

This wonderful, grand old hotel in the heart of Porto, on the Avenida dos Aliados, is magnificent. Somewhat decayed and reminiscent of a more affluent time, it has all the hallmarks of a grand Parisian establishment - complete with large French windows looking over the square. The restaurant downstairs, although a separate business, is a large French style restaurant with many elegant and experienced waiters, a maitre-d'hotel and a sommelier - you'd swear you were in Paris - and everyone speaks fluent French (as well as fluent English)! It was very luxurious in the old-fashioned way. Funny rules, though. You aren't supposed to do any of your own laundry in your room, not even smalls, and you can't take any food from the breakfast room to be eaten later, not even a piece of fruit! Hard to police those rules, I'm sure.

Room Tip: If you want absolute quiet, don't take a room facing onto the square, but then you'll miss o...

I had a 3 night stay at this hotel during the week of the April 25th holiday, needless to stay that it was noisy. The hotel clerk that checked me in, a women with red hair, was not very pleasant. When you check in, you are told ( I hope not just me) to not wash your clothes in the hotel. First of all, that advice does not apply to every traveler, CERTAINLY NOT ME so I think telling someone that at check in is really bizarre for even a 3 star establishment. I had to beg that same clerk for a map and the rest of the conversation became really painful. I started avoiding the desk whenever she was on post so that I won't have to ask her for help. You are also asked to leave you key in the lobby if you are leaving the building.

The night clerk(the younger one with the glasses), was much more pleasant and was more willing to help. I was able to purchase a 2 day tour on the Yellowbus from the hotel for 17 Euros which I thought was reasonable.

The Hotel is centrally located, so if you are sensitive to noise, it might be an issue. I was in room 305 which had a good view of the square. The walk to the Ribeira is only 15 minutes away and a few other central spots are only walking distance.

Overall, my experience was just okay. Most of the other hotels were booked for the other times that I was there which is the main reason why I chose this hotel. Personally, I would never stay here again or recommend it to other people, simply because anyone working in a hospitality industry should make an effort and treat paying customers a little better. This place has so much potential and I hope the management the customer reviews into consideration.

The hotel is very centrally located (although it can get noisy when there is an event on the square) in a beautiful building. Our room on the 5th floor was spacious, but the bathroom was tiny and smelled slightly of sewage. The windows on that floor are very high so you don't see much other than a bit of sky. The breakfast was disappointing for a three star hotel. Overall we found the hotel too expensive for what it was.

Breakfast is spartan, but that is common for Portugal. Lots of street noise, and the double wooden shutters don't really help. Hotel is old and appears a little run-down, but everything is neat and tidy.

There is a fridge at the reception, but it was broken for most of my stay. However, there is a nice restaurant below the hotel itself which is open til late, and if you're lucky you can even catch a fado show while having your meal. Recommended.

Room Tip: Try getting a room facing away from the street.
