“Great location and unique hotel”
Reviewed April 20, 2013

This hotel is the oldest hotel in Porto and sometimes shows its age. It has beautiful antiques and much character but some areas are worn and seem a little random in decor. Location is very central and easy to get to major attractions. Breakfast was included and was good but nothing spectacular. Beds were a bit hard and not a lot of space in the room but a wonderful little balcony.

We were disappointed in this hotel. It looks like it WAS grand at one point, but it has really lost its luster. We found the reception staff to be universally cold and unfriendly. It was really a strange introduction to Portugal, because we thought people would be really friendly, but not this group. The hotel breakfast is GREAT, that is one really positive point, but all in all, we would definitely try to stay somewhere else next time.

A fascinating hotel with lots of interesting memorabilia about. Very grand but welcoming. We got there very late but they opened up the bar so we could have a nightcap. Our room was on the small side but then we did not pay very much for it! Hotel nice and warm. Breakfast extensive. On edge of historic area so in a good position.

Room Tip: Avoid 108, 109, 208, 209, 308, 309 as they are on the small side

The rooms are not matching the staircase, breakfast room in terms of antique feeling and size, however, for the amount spent you cannot expect a large suite.
Breakfast indeed plenty, fresh, decent.
Good location, close to subway, walk to downtown, shopping street.
If your room faces the (small) street you may can feel the vibe of Porto's student at 3am.
I inquired information prior the stay, email response was prompt and competent, very good service.

This is a gem of a hotel .The first wow was the location,. just off the main meeting area on a quite side street .Wow 2 came at the entrance to the hotel the name embossed on the marble step at the front door ,big doors leading into a lobby ,up the red carpet stairs with brass hand rails and through more doors to the main reception.Very friendly staff speaking better english than us!Wow 3 came when walking to our room antique furniture,an old telephone exchange, old photo's,paintings,a shelf of typewriters through the ages and the best bit a corridor with highly polished toilet seats of different shapes and styles. The room was nice and comfy with a verranda with views of the backs of old buildings, domes and a tower .It was quite apart from church bells . Wow 4and 5 was the all you can eat breakfast an absolute feast catering for all tastes (the rice pudding was a revelation). There was a happy hour at the bar, which from 5 till 8 ,a happy three hours to my reckoning .It was valentines while we were there and they left three heart shaped chocolates for My wife myself and our son, very thoughtful.
The hotel seems to have made a decision to keep the hotel in it's past and it works extremely well and I recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: we had a triple room no 210 but I can't see a problem which ever room you got the road was quite

An extremely atomspheric hotel in a great location. Close to sights, restaurants and transport. Absolutely fantastic breakfast. A very reasonable price for the quality. The building is a fascinating old building and service was fine. Only criticism is that there was a charge to use the safe.

The best thing about this hotel is the location,it is perfect.
The people at the fromt desk are realy there to give you goog service and they do.
Rooms are small and clean. We where on the side of the cathedral top floor the view was superb.
Bath room was not quite up to the standar of the hotel small, no counter space, old towels,
Very small shower stall,no place in the shower to put your soap or shampoo.
Breakfast was decent.
Overhaul i would recomande this hotel. For the location and the charm of the interior( antique decor)
