“LOVELY OLD LADY”
Reviewed October 18, 2013

XII century cathedral built by Portugal's first king - some say as a means and way to have the Pope recognize Portugal's independence. It certainly impressed us. There is a lovely and impressive altar all made in true silver. A must see.

“Beautiful Outside”
Reviewed October 12, 2013

A gorgeous cathedral with pretty tile on the outside but unable to go in. The square was filled with local students dressed in yellow T-shirts (kind of like college frats) being herded by upper classmen in all black outfits including CAPES! We weren't allowed pictures of the students but it was different & interesting non-the-less. There are also beautiful views of the city from the church square for great photos

“Very nice”
Reviewed October 11, 2013

We took the funicular up (2 euro, a little "steep"). The cathedral was quite impressive, liked it a lot more than the Igreja de S. Francisco. Good views from the courtyard terrace. Interesting walk down the back alleys to the river (though my wife was concerned she might fall and break something).

“great place to watch a wedding”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

The cathedral is beautiful. A huge wedding party was gathering as we arrived. My wife stayed to watch the wedding while I enjoyed a beer on the patio of a small bar just below. Great views from around the cathedral and easy access to walk across the bridge over the Duoro for more great views.
