Owner description: Located in the heart of Oporto, the Serralves Foundation boasts a priceless heritage estate, comprised of the Museum (designed by the 1992 Pritzker prize winning architect, Álvaro Siza Vieira); Serralves Villa (a unique example of Art Deco architecture); and by the Park (winner of the “Henry Ford Prize for the Preservation of the Environment” in 1997). As a European cultural institution serving the national community, the Serralves Foundation’s mission is to raise the general public's awareness concerning contemporary art and the environment. Serralves offers a wide range of different eating alternatives, throughout the day –the Restaurant in the Museum, the Auditorium bar or the Tea House in the Park. The Serralves Shop presents a wide selection of Portuguese and international contemporary design products and the Museum Book Shop specialises in publications dedicated to contemporary art. Located in one of Oporto’s most prestigious zones, with excellent access from the historic centre and main thoroughfares, the Serralves Foundation is a unique place in the city - where art and landscape, culture and heritage converge in a contemporary vision. A Must-See for your trip to Oporto!

Interesting place that joins modern museum to botanic gardens and a farm. Crossing the park you can find several sculptures and installations. It's a real pity these aren't well indicated by signals. I suggest you going out from there, to reach the sea walking at the sunset.

The garden is really beautiful. The museum is worldwide recognized, but is modern art museum (which are not my favorites..)

I Art is mainly photos or videos but the grounds and House are worth seeing but not at €20 the staff seem very surly except for the cafe staff where the food was good and not expensive

This museum does not feature exceptional contemporary paintings - unless I missed a gallery or two. At the time we visited, the attractions were an exhibit of Robert Mapplethorpe photographs and Anish Kapoor “creations”. The Mappelthrope exhibit is awful.........many photos of male genitalia and other weird stuff. I do not consider him a great photographer...........he’s in it mostly for the shock value.
I am glad we saw the gardens, but would not make a return visit unless there was an exhibit of quality paintings.

Museu Serralves hosts excellent exhibitions, and we were fortunate to be in Porto to see Robert Mappelthorpe's fascinating and controversial photos.
In addition to the museum, the gardens are filled with a number of treasures. We found it especially intriguing to walk back and forth in front of the Angelo de Sousa.
Don't miss the pink villa, a fabulous art deco mansion that will transport you back in time.
