The location of the Grande Hotel Do Porto is great. Right on the Rua Santa Catarina and walking distance to most of the older party of the city. The lobby, bar and dining area are very nicely restored and welcoming. The staff was very attentive and helpful and made great recommendations on restaurants. The rooms are a little dated and sad. The chocolate brown carpet is quite unattractive in my opinion and we looked over an alley. apparently when the hotel was first built it was in the middle of the country and had lovely views. not any more. I would say this is fine for the price, but it is not luxurious (even though the lobby feels very luxurious) The staff all spoke English and were super accommodating. overall it was nice but not amazing.

Room Tip: Ask for any room on the first floor or higher so you don't get stuck in what seems like the basement. It really isn't, but the rooms downstairs seem quite sad.

Our bedroom was very too small; we had asked for a big bed, it was not one and the bedroom was full with it ! Our bedroom was located in a part of the hotel whitch is not the most beautiful, et we had a view on a wall

The hotel common areas are amazing! From the reception area with it's banquette to the sitting area with the large meeting table with current newspapers and magazines and comfortable couches and coffee tables to the bar which is split on either side of the hall. Wonderful and lovely! Warm and cosy with the feeling of time travelled to Victorian times. The hotel has two elevators one at each end of the hall, which is good as the hotel does extend a long way and it is convenient to have one close. The rooms are utilitarian not uncomfortable but not luxurious. I for one tend to use my hotel for sleeping so this is not a bad thing. The hotel's location is superb. It is on a main shopping street and is just across the street from the Majestic Cafe a Porto landmark and tourist destination. The hotel staff are very accommodating and very helpful. We stayed for three days while exploring and enjoying Porto and would stay again as we fell in love with the city. Do be warned the city is built on a hillside so walking is definitely exercise!

One of the nicest place to stay in Porto....excellent breakfast and clean room. Wonderful staff.
If you want to wonder around turn right once you come out of the hotel....nice places to hangout. Very close to the center of the city...walking distance.

Room Tip: Avoid the front...to close to main street.

The place of hotel no bad, but far from the river and ocean. It's mean that you cannot reach best places to view, no good restaurants, no places to test vines. The room extremely small. If you put one big bag it will catch half of room. Next half is a bed, and no place for sit. TV only local programs. But restroom is fantastic, to compare with room. Service is good, clean. Breakfast is bad, poor. Hotel has parking for 9 euro per day. Internet is good, recommend to purchase 24 hours packet, will be good for few days. Cost is 10 euro. Or you can pay 2 euro per hour.
