“Most fun meal in Portugal!”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

This place was recommended by Rough Guides and was an easy walk from our hotel (Ibis Centro). We got there about 7:30 and they were not quite open. We felt like we walked into someone's home with kids running around and waiters still eating at the table. What a hoot! The owner assured us they were open and ushered us into the back dining room, turning on the lights as he walked. That's when the fun really began. His English is not bad but he obviously had a routine and it helped that we didn't fight it but just sat back and enjoyed the ride. As you can see from other reviews, they really push the "pig knee" (his translation). When I asked "Was it smoked?" He said no, roasted. Well, that was just typical of the night. It was obviously smoked but very large and very good. When I asked him if there was really bacon in the dessert called "Bacon from Heaven" he said certainly, "but not the pumpkin that you put in soup, this is the pumpkin that you put in cake!" Huh?? Well, it was a very fun night and as everyone else mentions, the pig knee is good. I just wonder if they really have anything else in the kitchen!

“Best of Porto”
Reviewed September 16, 2012 via mobile

Very friendly staff, delicious meal. We met awesome guy, friend of owner, who sat next to us and told much about what is really good. The place was crowded that evening we have been to but it was worth a wait.

“Great local food and athmosphere”
Reviewed August 12, 2012 via mobile

Went here by recommendations on trip advisor and was very happy with our meal. We went for roasted pork knee (as most others) and it was great. The big portion for 2 could easy feed 3 if you are not super hungry. We went for the recommended wine, and at 8 euro a bottle it was good. We wanted to try desserts but were too full:) total bill for 4+kid was 60 with wine. Highly recommend trying the place:)

“Excellent pork ham, half the price of Ribeira side, no frills.”
Reviewed August 11, 2012

The pork ham was delicious ! This is one of the specialities of the house : “Pernil de Porco Assado no Frono” … a platter for 2, including baked potatoes, vegetables and rice, and of course : the brilliant pork ham. Price for 2 people : 15€ ! we had to pay 19€ including 2 soups of the day and 2 aqua con gas …try this at Ribeira !
The restaurant is clean but canteen-style (like another reviewer noticed), no frills. Service was friendly and correct. Restaurant is tucked away in a sidestreet, not in the tourist centre of Porto, but only 200m from central Trindade metro station …worth the effort. Look at maps.google for exact location.
