It is wonderful hotel in every respect. It is in the most uninteresting part of Santa Catharina Street and we even 2 times passed by down the street and passed entrance to hotel. But then we began to look around at a tower of hotel and could find it. But when you come around inside, such feeling that got to the fairy tale and to any wonderful oasis in the middle of the city. The personnel is very lovely and kind, and internal rooms are simply wonderful! When I saw our room (it was King Suit) I for few minutes lost a speech power as it was similar to the museum, but at the same time with a house situation and a cosiness. The case size in this room replaces by the size room in hotel in Paris))) Despite existence of antiques furniture and a situation the hotel atmosphere without pathos and we felt there very comfortably. King Suit consists of 2 rooms, a balcony and a big beautiful bathroom with 2 windows. There is a teapot and sets for tea. We were in the winter, in rooms was very warm and cracks at windows were carefully covered by special protection. The breakfast moves in the real antiques situation, a good choice of snack and pastries. Big free parking (it is very actual for Porto). To the downtown of 10-15 minutes on foot down the street Santa Catharina, to the subway of 3 minutes on foot. There was only one not really pleasant moment - when we arrived, I long couldn't receive hot water in soul, probably, there are some problems with heating system in this ancient house. But then everything was Apprx.
Besides, in this lock there lives an interesting black cat who comes in the evenings on a visit and sometimes allows to stroke itself))
It is remarkable hotel for absolutely small price. It seems even unreal)) my thanks to the owner and the hotel personnel, we received unforgettable impressions!

Room Tip: I advise to take rooms in a tower

My mother and I stayed here 2 nights. The hotel can be a bit difficult to find as it's a bit hidden from the street and the GPS didn't recognize the address.

Once found, it's a beautiful place. The reception was very friendly and the staff are happy to help with bags up the stairs (there are no lifts). As suggested by other reviewers, we stayed in the main castle. The room was small, but comfortable and beautiful. The bathroom was beautiful as well - all tiled - and the water pressure and temperature were excellent. Breakfast was decent - hot and cold options - although nothing to write home about. They also have a resident cat who responds happily to some friendly scratching and will hang around at breakfast in case someone takes pity and shares their breakfast.

The location is good. We walked to and from the river (and highly recommend a walk on Rua Santa Catarina, especially with the Christmas lights) as this is how we like to explore cities. It's also easily accessible by metro.

We circled it twice before we found it, but we found an oasis of trees, shrubs and flowers in a well-kept garden. Rooms in the castle tower had Old World charm with decorative antique furniture and headboards, The towel warmer in the bathroom was a modern touch, Breakfast was plentiful. There's no elevator in the tower but the staff will happily carry your bags up/down the stairs. Staff was very polite and English speaking and provided a handout guide showing most if the must-see sights on a stroll to the river, An inexpensive taxi ride back is recommended for the uphill walk. Parking is free.

Room Tip: Garden rooms have poor rating. Stay in the tower

Downtown Porto is bustling and crowded but when we turned into the impressive gates of this hotel we find ourselves in an oasis of calm with a garden surrounded by beautifully tiled buildings, including its own chapel. Staff were very helpful and spoke excellent English and our accommodation was pleasant and quite adequate. It was a delight to have the garden with its mixture of sun and shade, terraces and lawns, to relax in, and the dining room in which the inclusive breakfast was served was very impressive in size and decor which matched the almost 100 years age of the main building. Porto is hilly, but the walk down to the waterfront was interesting and after tapas and local wine, we took a very inexpensive taxi ride back to the hotel. The staff recommended a nearby restaurant, with local cuisine, for an evening meal which was very pleasant and just a short walk from the Castelo.

We spent our first night in Portugal at the hotel. The effect was magical; it was the prelude to our enchantment of the country . Yes, the rooms are small, but the breakfast was grand (don't miss that), and relaxing in the garden is quite a unique for a city hotel. Probably should not stay for a stretch of time, move on and keep fond memories of the tiles, the trees, the breakfast. We used the parking, and walked into town. We returned to the hotel from the center by taxi, reasonable price for the taxi, but had to indicate to the driver where the hotel was...
part of the fun, really.
