“Nice place, but too noisy”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2012

I stayed at the room called the tunel, the room is beautiful, the location is great, but too noisy, I could not sleep my first night quite well because people above were too nosiy and careless. Second night they did noise until 1am and then 7am, I am on holidays I wanted to rest but too much noise for doing so. My roof which ist he floor of the room above is made of wood, so you can hear perfectly mostly everything.

Room Tip: If you dont care about noise, then this is the place to stay.

In Casa dos Guindais you will find yourself in a very well furnished and beautiful designed accommodation. Our room (Tunel) was equipped with a cooking plate and a fridge and a nice shower. The location was perfect, a somewhat quiet street just outside the busy centre. With a delicious bakery and supermarket nearby we didn't miss any breakfast service. It made us feel as if we were really living in Porto. If I have to name one downside (and it really is the only one) it is the noise. The people who rented a double apartment upstairs were a busy family and we heard them deep in the night and early in the morning. It didn't keep us awake, but it did take away some of the pleasure. Nonetheless, we will return here if in Porto again!

Room Tip: Maybe the rooms upstairs are a bit more quiet?

This ancient house has been v thoughtfully modernised into stylish studio apartments. The location is perfect, opposite the old town walls and equidistant from the river and the main historical sites further into the city.Next to funicular, metro stop and hop-on bus tour stop.
We stayed is Escada, a large room which has a dividing door where our daughter had a put-me-up bed. It has a compact kitchenette area and shower room.V well fitted out, stylishly decorated to make the most of the rustic original walls.Nice touches like complimentary port, water, oil, tea, coffee etc.The owner was there to greet us and was v helpful re all the facilities and location of this amazing city.Only negative comment is would have loved a bit of air con as it's hot in July!

Room Tip: Escada is the largest and at the front of the house. We appreciated the extra room. The website has...

We stayed here for three nights with our 4 months daughter in July 2012. The location is very central, parking is easily available nearby, and everything is clean, functionnal and stylish. We had the first floor room with the patio and it was great as we could sip our wine and porto in a charming and quiet backyard. Note that there is no breakfast served (but there is coffee, tea and porto available in the room) and that there might be some noise, depending on the type of neighbour you get (old hardwood floors can be noisy).

We stayed in the duoro room for four nights at the end of May. Our time here was very special due to the perfect room, the great location, the very nice Alvaro and all his recommendations for things to do, places to eat, and for the pretty town of Porto. We loved taking the funicular to the waterfront where we could walk across the bridge to the port lodges. It is a good idea to buy a daily pass every day for around 5 euros per person. It's really worth it! You can easily walk to all the historical places from the B & B, so no need for taxis or a bus. We just walked everywhere, to dinner, to the parks, but did take a taxi to Foz for a lovely dinner at Shis for seven euros each way. Again, well worth it.

The bed in the room was ultra comfortable and we left the door open all night so that we could feel the breeze from the river. The shower is located on the other side of the room from the WC which was great so that we could both be doing something and not in each others way. The balcony was nice, my husband loved playing his guitar out there, and we hung our clothes to dry after we washed them in the kitchen sink. We also drank the port in the room there, and just enjoyed the view at night of the military building all lit up across the river. We always felt safe walking around, even late at night. Everything was really beyond perfection and we hope to return one day soon to enjoy it all over again.

Room Tip: We loved the duoro room, but they all seemed nice.

This is a lovely and unique accomodation in Porto! The house has been in owner's family for many generations and you can feel the history through the stone walls and beams of the structure. The rooms are clean, spacious, and well decorated. The owner is very friendly and gave us a nice tour of the house and recommendations for our visit. The location is fantastic - right in the historic center of town and an easy walk to the Port cellars across the bridge. A nice welcome was a port sample provided by the owner in our room! We highly recommend it!
