Description: Welcome to a quite, rustic 19th century house, just in front of river Douro, where Portuguese wine and food are the perfect excuse to forget the world and to enjoy the moment. An open kitchen where we love what we do to whom we do. A wide variety of Portuguese wines (15 by the glass) from which you can choose. Far from confusion, protected yet exposed, we look to pay an Ode to those who visit us - our guests. Relax. Fell at home.

This is an experience not to be missed. We loved how the owner creates a community and very original experience every time. The owner is extremely passionate about the food and ensuring you have the best of Portugal in every dish from all regions. We had a wonderful time and really don't want to say too much as you really need to experience it for yourself. However it is fun, friendly and romantic all in the same evening. Allow 3 hours to really enjoy.

Had trouble finding ODE on our first day in Porto (I'd stupidly forgotten to note the exact address), but stumbled across it on our last day. The general manager Cristovao was a little intimidating when I said I'd found ODE through Tripadvisor - but he was just stressing that service would be at least 2 - 3 hours - apparently there had been some reviews saying the service was slow.
So, if you want a quick meal, do not go to ODE. But if you want to eat carefully sourced food, cooked so that the plated food tastes greater that the sum of the parts, then this is the place for you.
We started with the ODE cocktail - a take on the local white port/tonic water long drink - which was a refreshing aperitive. The wine list goes from reasonable (20ish Euros) to quite expensive (well over 100E) so something for everyone. The pre-starter is big, (but you can pick to have bits of it or nothing at all) and the starters even larger. (Personally, I'd go for the pre-starter in full). My main of baked cod was soft and delicatly flavoured and my husband's black pork was lifted by the addition of the two sauces - a slightly sour apple sauce and a much sweeter chestnut which together were sensational.
There is a very good cheese plate to finish the meal (definitely miss ou the starter to have this) but if you like chocolate, then you have to have the chocolate volcano. This was the outstanding course for me - it was the best chocolate fondant I have ever had; it just kept oozing the thick liquid sauce, off set by bitter orange and a barely there tangerine sorbet. Historic!
ODE is Cristovao's baby; his passion is evident in the sourcing of the food (lots of it comes from his parents' farm) and the way in which it is presented to the customer. We were the last to leave that night and we enjoyed his company talking about food we had eaten in other restaurants.
A wonderful experience, and a fitting last night in Porto.

And that's a bold statement but one that carries no exaggeration.

We literally spent over five hours at the Wine House, starting with an aperitif, appetizers and the first course at the communal table in the entrance to the restaurant. Although we enjoyed fabulous conversation with our table mates, we decided for the main it would be nice to have a quieter (and slightly more romantic) experience upstairs. It was an excellent decision, as the quaint upstairs (with a view over the Douro and the neighboring church) made the main course and dessert all the more enjoyable. But, after finishing we decided to head back to the communal table to relax and enjoy a digestif. Excellent conversation abounded, and before we knew it, it was 1 AM - 5 hours after our 8 PM reservation! That's of course not mandatory, but we found that the setting was so comfortable we had no desire to leave.

The food was in our top 10 list of best meals, but the dining experience is what made this just amazing - and is what I can wholeheartedly say the best we've ever had. Personal conversation throughout the evening with the owner, detailed explanations of each dish (and where the ingredients came from), the absolute perfect ambiance and a very creative method of connecting guests to each other.

Locavore Portuguese at its finest and for very fair prices. It's not cheap, but it's nowhere near what you would pay in other cities. So go, relax, savor, converse. You won't regret it.

Reservations a must.

Cristóvão, The owner, is splendid. A formar engenier that produces the wonderfull Ode Port Wine, build himself The strategie and some parts of The restaurant. He also runs the two floors litle secret of Porto's most wonderfull spot, Douro's Ribeira.

My Australian family and I had a wonderful dining experience at ODE.

We began by taking glass a muscatel (at the owner’s recommendation) from the bar of the restaurant and out to the Ribera. It was lovely to begin the meal with a well-recommended wine and a view over the water.

We went back inside to a communal table to share a slate of appetizers of local produce. The highlights were the bread and butter from Acores and the Salicao de Bisaro (smoked pork loin sausage from Minho). We loved the map the owner pulled out to show us where the produce was sourced.

We then went up stairs in a beautifully renovated, wooden room for entrees and mains. The “Timeless Sardine” sand the Octopus are must-haves.

We highly recommend eating at ODE when in Porto.
