this is a large centrally located hotel close to the centre.
It caters for both tourists and business.
the room a are well appointed and there are rooms suitable for physically handicapped persons.
The food was a little disappointing.
It was not very tasty despite the variety .
The staff were friendly and helpful

We stayed two nights here during our bus tour of Portugal. The hotel is big and it seems a lot of tour groups use it. We had porterage included in our tour so didn't have to worry about our luggage. However, most tour groups seemed to arrive with their luggage which then took up half the space in the elevators creating a bottleneck in the lobby area. Having said that, we seemed to be able to use the elevators from Level 5. of 19 in total, without a problem. It was quite easy to walk into the city centre but getting back was uphill. Breakfasts and wi-fi were very good. Service was also very good.

The hotel is a bit out in the sticks in a run down area. However, it is relatively easy to reach the main attractions from here.

The beds are quite comfortable and the rooms quieter than similar chain hotels.

The breakfast choice was quite good with a nice range of fruit juices, cooled breakfasts and cold buffet. The heating system for the bacon and eggs is not adequate, which is a shame, as they tasted good even if cold! The staff in the restaurant were nice and helpful.

What was not acceptable, was staff not respecting the "do not disturb" sign on our door and knocking quite loudly, late at night, waking us up (!) to deliver a kettle, which we had asked for two days before!

The lift system in the hotel is also inadequate.

The pool at the top is a nice feature with great views over the city.

Overall, an average hotel with four star facilities, but lacking class and good customer service.

Could do better!

Handy for the Metro to the city centre and out to the beach. Rooms are decent size with AC, safe (at extra cost), tea and coffee making etc. Breakfast buffet offers a good selection, however hot food although good quality, is never hot. Definite problem here. Lifts take a bit of getting used to, some only go to certain floors. Good value for money though, you get what you pay for.

We stayed in VIla Gale Porto hotel two night during our trip around Portugal with Trafalgar. The hotel is very big - 19 floors. Elevators were always busy and slow. We had to take stairs which wasn't a problem because we stayed on 5th floor. The hotel is well-located close to downtown and shopping area. There was a big construction not far from to the hotel. It didn't affect us at all. Just not a nice view. The room was big and clean with a very comfortable bed. The bathroom had a heater. We requested a kettle from the reception and it was brought to our room right away with a small supply of tea and coffee (free of charge). In order to use a safe, one had to ask a key from the reception. The breakfast was sufficient but very crowded. At the same time, the staff was replenishing everything very efficiently. The front desk was very polite and helpful. There were plenty of city maps at in the reception area.
We would recommend this hotel to other travelers.
