InterContinental Porto - Palacio das Cardosas
Ranked #1 of 109 Hotels in Porto
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed January 20, 2013

This is a brand new hotel, ideally located in a corner building (a former bank), an excellent location to visit Porto. The rooms are very large, well decorated (luxury but not over done), the service is excellent. We stayed with our 3 kids in a suite (two adjacent rooms) for a very modest price. We had room service, we ate at the restaurant (delicious) and had some adult's time at the bar. I am usually a boutique hotel fan, but this Intercontinental combines the best of both world : it is rather small yet it offers all the good sides of a high end chain. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: We had rooms on the back side.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for taking the time to review our property with such kind words. In fact, this Intercontinental is smaller than the majority of the Hotels of our brand, but it was built in an old Palace and its façade is cultural patrimony dating to the XVIII Century.

We really appreciate your comments about our hotel regarding the decoration and service. We strive to give great and impressive service to all of our guests and therefore its very rewarding to read you have enjoyed so much your stay with us.

We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

I cannot fault the InterContinental Porto Palacio das Cardosas.
The hotel is perfectly situated on Praca da Liberdade and an excellent place to start your tour of the beautiful city of Porto. This boutique hotel is charming, spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated throughout. The rooms are spacious and the beds incredibly comfortable.
What really sets this hotel apart is the excellent, professional and friendly staff.
For me, this is the only place to stay in Porto and I would be happy to recommend it to anyone visiting Porto. I look forward to returning.

Room Tip: We had a room on the 3rd floor overlooking the plaza. The room was quiet and the temperature just...

This new Intercontinental hotel combined a city location with some historical detail The hotel is fairly modern inside but still has balconies. We had a room overlooking the city with a balcony that I could stand on to watch the street activity. The concierge staff was amazingly pleasant and helpful and spent lots of time giving us touring suggestions and drawing on our map. Breakfast in the hotel was fun since the dining room had seats in the windows that were almost at street level.

Room Tip: It is worth paying extra for a room on the front of the hotel.

This is not your usual Intercontinental Hotel. This is a small beautiful boutique hotel which offers everything a traveler could conceivably want. Wonderful ambience and "feel" all round, lovely rooms and an excellent restaurant. But it is the staff who are exceptional, especially Concierge Rogerio Martins - and his crew. Ever helpful, friendly and knowledgable Rogerio made us welcome in the Hotel as if we were staying in a home.

Do yourself a favour and stay here. You most certainly won't be disappointed. And Porto is a great place to visit, With Rogerio and his crew as "guides" you will get to "know" the city and its restaurants very well.

The Intercontinental hotel is perfectly located right in the center of Porto. The exterior building is beautiful. The interior looks as if recently renovated. You may or may not like the style, but it has been well done. Our room was large, had an amazing view over the plaza. Unfortunately, a bit dark with just one window (most rooms have 2). The bathroom is very large with separate bath and shower. We were there with a baby and the hotel provided a baby's cot. Even with this extra bed in the room, it remained spacious.
The concierge (very nice) provided helpful recommendations about restaurants and activities.
We ate once in the evening in the hotel's restaurant. Good food and very pleasant service.
Next to the hotel (but not part of it) on the left when you exit, they are several cafés, including an excellent bakery for the morning's breakfast.
Plenty to see in Porto. Very few tourists in early January. The temperatures were nearly ideal (15° around noon, of course colder during the night).

Room Tip: Ask for a room with 2 windows, because with just one, the interior was a bit dark for my taste.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your very kind words. We are very glad you appreciated both our hotel and the city so much. Oporto is still a well kept secret with lots of pleasant surprises, and very welcoming to all those who come to visit.
Our hotel, Palacio das Cardosas, is indeed ideally located in one of the most iconic 18th century building in the city centre and within walking distance from all the major city attractions. The prestigious façade compliment a beautifully renovated interior designed by Alex Kravetz and is characterized by elegance and contemporary luxury, and as you mentioned...sensitive to different tastes!
We took good note of your comments about your room preferences and already up dated your profile, so next time you visit us, a 2 window room will be assigned to you!

What a wonderful experience. The hotel has teh best location in town, close to everything, right in the middle of the city. The building itself is gorgeus, very well refurbished, mixing the new and the old. The room is beautiful, bright, with enought space and with a wonderful bathroom.
The breakfast could not be in a most charming place, at Cafe Astoria.
The service deserves nothing less than excelent.
For sure will be my choice in the city and the choice for all my clients.

The location is perfect. It is only a 15 minute stroll from the hotel to the oter side of the river where are all the Port wineries sit. If you feel like hitting a club or bar, turn left when leaving the hotel and make a right aft about 200 meters. For a good and affordable lunch you do not have to leave the hotel. The restaurant serves excellent dishes. Some local. Let the waiter help you out with your choices but, keep in mind that squid in Portugal comes in whole, like it swims in the ocean!!!
Also the wines are beautiful. For dining out we let the concierge pick the restaurants for us. He was spot on. We had such great dinners with the most beautiful wines. An unexpected surprise. Bring your goldcard though. The staff of the hotel is professional and very helpful. The rooms are clean, comfortable and noise proof. Have a little aperatif in the hotelbar before dinner. Their local Ports are a real treat to your tastebuds.
