“Disappointing at the cleaning especially...”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 29, 2012

The window and walls are sound proof but the door and the ceiling are not. I could hear people walking and talking outside clearly as well as someone's taking a shower right above me in the night. For a 4 star hotel here I would expect more. There's no kettle or any coffee facility in the room and if you ask for some hot water they charge you 10 euros. Even the toilet was not cleaned. (there's no brush in the toilet so we couldn't clean it ourselves) We are staying here for 2 nights and when we were back from our day trip today we found the toilet was obviously not cleaned!!!

This modern hotel is in a perfect location close to the river in the Ribeira district. There is a bus stop a 2 minute walk from the hotel and a metro station a 5 minute walk from the hotel. The river is less than a minute away. The hotel looks very nice from the inside and the staff is very friendly. The rooms are very modern but small and the lack of a shower door means that you bathroom is flooded after each shower. Internet is free but they use a very annoying system with 10 digit passwords and 8 digit codes that are valid for 24 hours in theory but a lot of times I had to go back to reception to get new ones. A lot of people have complained about this and they still have not changed it so far so they will probably keep on using this system. The one elevator is very slow and you're better of taking the stairs. They are major roadworks in front of the hotel until October 2013 but our room had an additional window so the noise was not too bad. Wardrobe too small. Breakfast can be expensive when it's not included in the room price. Luckily there is a very good breakfast place (Rocihna) just around the corner (right when you come out of the hotel and right again towards the river). Restaurant Mercado (left when you come out of the hotel and across the big square, red orange building) is a cheaper alternative for dinner. The next time in Porto we will take a less fancy and cheaper hotel with bigger rooms. I give it a four out of five because of the location. Price quality is average.

Room Tip: If you can afford it take a superior room

We spent 4 nights at this hotel in mid oct 2012.We took advantage of the hotel reviews to reserve a superior room in the main building with a river view,Upon arrival we were given a std room with no view. However the situation was corrected the next day.The room was quite small about 110 sq feet.No cabinets with drawers .so clothing was kept in the suitcases.Hardly any room to move.
Bathroom was modern and quite nice.
Location was excellent, close to the river front .Another plus was the staff, specially Paolo.
Very helpful and pleasant.Overall relative to other hotels this was a good choice

We stayed at the hotel in October with our friends at the end of our stay in Portugal. Although having booked a standard room, it was spotlesly clean and more than adequate for our one night stay. Our friends however upgraded to a duplex and were treated to some stunning nightime views of the city on one side and of the Duoro river and bridge on the other. As previous reviewers have commented the hotel itself is an eclectic mix of young and old and it works really well whilst being situated in a great location for sigtseeing and exploring the beautiful city.

We visited the hotel restaurant for dinner and the food and service were both exceptional coupled with excellent value particulary compared with the majority of the restaurants on the waterfront. Our deal also included breakfast which was plentiful with a wide choice of dishes.

Highly recommended and we will be returning to the hotel again next year for a longer stay.

we stayed here for two nights in early Nov. and we're most pleased with the service of the staff and location. many thanks to Paulo at the front desk for his local restaurant recommendations and quick primer on port wines! We opted for upper rooms with view of the Douro, being fore-warned about the smaller size, and found them perfect for our needs. Hotel proper was in a cool renovated building 1-2 blocks from the riverfront & within walking distance of many of the top sites. Wi-fi was good, breakfast was above average, and cannot say enough about the helpfulness of the staff during our all-to-short stay.

I stayed at the Carris Porto Ribeira in October for three nights. The hotel was nicely situated on the Duoro River. Room was on the smaller side but more than enough room for my finance and I as we didn't spend too much time in the hotel room. The housekeeping kept the room clean each day. The blinds in the shower that showed a view into the bedroom was strange. And we found it impossible to shower without getting the floor all wet because of no shower curtain or door. But those are just two minor inconveniences. We ate at the hotel restaurant that I would say was a 5 star. Delicious food and great service! But note: make reservations ahead of time if you want to dine there as it fill up.

The one true disappointment was that when we arrived there was construction right outside of our bedroom window. A little noisy in the a.m and p.m. We asked for a room that was not facing the construction but were told the only rooms available would require us to pay more to stay in.

Overal, great hotel would stay there again as long as the construction was over.

Just walked in off the street and were greeted by a most informative young man on reception who booked us into a superb room in this recently opened hotel just back from the river close to the bridge, in the heart of Porto. The building dates back to Roman times and the hotel is a clever mix of ancient exposed masonry with ultra modern art work and facilities. Our room was quiet, a good size with comfortable beds. The sparkling modern en-suite had the interesting feature of a window onto the bedroom - but electric blinds can be lowered to preserve one's modesty! Breakfast, included in the price, offered a wide selection of hot and cold fresh items as well as freshly squeezed orange juice. Parking is in a nearby underground car park but the hotel's central location means it's ideal for exploring the city, the riverside and port houses on the opposite bank on foot.
