Description: As White As It GetsThe Restaurant Cafe PIMMS is another project associated with the avant-garde growing movement to rehabilitate the historic center of Porto. Reminding us of old grocery stores, Pimms could be found in London or Madrid, but it is in Ribeira at Porto. The color white lays out the rules in the cosmopolitan and visually attractive Pimms. The façade, shelves, benches, tables and floor are all white. There is also a large number of mirrors spread throughout the restaurant. According to the managers, the choice of the location is due to the willingness in helping out the rehabilitation of that area and also to the fact of being in the middle of a touristic site. In opposition to the modern decoration the kitchen has a traditional profile, allowing fusions to take place. It is intended as a cosmopolitan restaurant, faithful to the inhabitants of Porto and domestic products, while welcoming to tourists visiting Porto throughout the year.PIMMS is a “Cheap and Chic” restaurant where steaks, codfish, pasta, snacks and cocktails are its strength. The food is 'bridge' between the typical national at lunch and international at dinner. The house's specialties are Bife à Pimms, a loin steak with mozzarella cheese and mushroom and cream sauce, Bacalhau Pimms, shredded cod with tomato crème au gratin and cheese. With lunch menus 8.80€ and dinner menus from 20€ onwards, Pimms shows its versatility in the Carte for evenings with many cocktails and typical snacks. As for the drinks, our specialties are the caipirinhas made by our Brazilian employees and the PIMM’S Cup Nº1 made by the owners. At PIMMS all customers may feel the Porto in its essence and modernity. The new terrace is one example, where you can admire the splendor of the Church of São Francisco and the Palácio da Bolsa (Stock Exchange Palace). The new Events Room, right next to the terrace, is another example of rehabilitation of a commercial space. It is now very welcoming and different, but keeping true to the original design of PIMMS. This space gives a new dimension to the ability of PIMMS organization to respond to any type of event.During the Summer, from April to September, PIMMS is open every day from 10:30 to 24:00 and on Sundays from 11:30 to 16:00, serving breakfast until 12:00, lunch until 15:00, snacks and light meals in the afternoon until 19:00 and dinner until 23:00.In Winter time, from October to March, PIMMS is open from Monday to Saturday, between 12:00 to 15:00 for lunch and 19:00 to 24:00 for dinner. We recommend making a reservation for dinner.A tip: happy hour is between 17.00 and 19.00 and there are cocktails and wine by glass. “Very pleasant space...”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

The restaurant is very nice. The dishes are very well prepared with presentation care, the staff is very kind and friendly. The restaurant is also located along one of the most pleasant zones of Porto, with some nice bars around.

The prices are not cheap but the value for the money is adequate. We paid around 22.5€/person [main dish, drinks and coffee].

Go there! It deserves...

“The drink Pimms was not available!”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

A very nice restaurant – several vegetarian meals were available. The waiter was very attentive and we were served quickly. Some of the items on the menu were slightly weird _ I had a pepper starter which was absolutely drenched in salt – as a result of which I drank a lot of sangria very quickly and ended up quite drunk! Also an unusual dessert of chocolate ice cream dressed with balsamic vinegar! Eating here certainly gives your taste buds quite an experience!

The negative was this was, by far, the most expensive meal we had in France, Spain & Portugal over 2.5 weeks!

“On the Waterfront”
Reviewed September 23, 2012

We visited Pimms on a Sunday afternoon when tour buses were dropping off scores of Brits on holiday, and many came into the restaurant. It was delightful to chat with them, and our super-busy server handled the crazy crush with grace and efficiency. The Portuguese practice of bringing appetizers that have not been ordered to the table (no longer accepted) was in place, but frankly, welcome. We've had it done on steroids, where every roll and pat of butter and piece of bacalhau (salted cod) costs, but here we were simply brought a tuna spread and tomato and olive mixture with bread, and it was all delicious. Given the delay in service, it was more than welcome, and fairly priced at about 2.5 Euro. The fish soup, if that's your thing, was very good, and the Spaghetti Bolognese was lovely, but disappointing in size. It was definitely an appetizer portion (and we don't like large plates, so that's saying a lot) and at 11.9 Euro, overpriced. Having said that, a generous pour of house red wine by the glass was roughly the equivalent of four dollars, more than fair. We'd go back, but be careful about our selections. One last note: the inside portion is small and narrow but filled with small lamps creating a cozy feel, mirrors to increase the sense of space, and white pottery, lending a feel of freshness to the restaurant.

“Good for value, good food and atmosphere”
Reviewed September 20, 2012

Went here because of the outlook, it has free WiFi, lunch menu at 8.8€ including bread, soup and main. Food was good quality for the price and service was good. Recommend this to anyone for a relaxed lunch with WiFi after visit to the palace.
