“Basic accomodation”

Not far from portwine cellars and center. Quiet neighbourhood. Very helpful staff. Simple but tasty breakfast. We arrived early in the morning and could leave our bags at residencial. Room had air-conditioning and TV on the wall. Room itself was basic and bit worn out.

It is hard to expect a lot from a hotel that you pay 47 Euros the night (double room with breakfast), but considering Porto's prices, I believe that it is possible to find a better accommodation.
The biggest problem of the hotel is the size of the room. Obviously we weren't expecting a spacious room, but it would be nice if two people could at least comfortably walk through the room at the same time. The mirrors try to make the room seem larger, but it is helpless – the space left between the bed and the wall/mirror, is ridiculous small.
The bathroom, comparing to the bedroom, is spacious enough for one person, but lacks of cleanness. The breakfast is definitely the best thing about the hotel.
The location is fair. 10 – 15 minutes from Bolhao Metro Station, and at a walking distance from the city center. However, the lack of movement on late hours on the hotel surroundings causes a little uncomfortable feeling.
Not a bad hotel, but considering other places that we have stayed in Portugal, I believe that it is possible to obtain a better option, considering the relation price x quality.

Room Tip: Avoid room 104.

What a find! Thank you to previous TripAdvisor reviewers. I stayed with a small group in Residencial Porto Madrid in April. Our travel arrangements were slightly complicated and involved a couple of deliveries to the hotel. The bookings and reception staff were exceptionally helpful. Nothing was a problem and everything went very smoothly.
Our accommodation was great as was breakfast. Outstandingly good value.
We shall return.

The previous reviews are all spot on. Here are some photos for proof! The breakfast and staff were a bonus. We recently payed 9 euro each for a similar breakfast in France. The staff kindly helped with honest recommendations and transportation logistics. Manuel knocked on our door to wake us up (no phones in the room) then stood in the doorway at 5 AM endlessly waving goodbye to us- just like my grandma use to do! A fun city to explore and great place to use as "home" base.

After traveling extensively in western Europe I was worried about booking a place that only cost 30 euros a night. In most other western European cities that would get you a grim room in a sketchy part of town. Not in Portugal! The Residencial Porto Madrid was smart, clean and well run, and just a few minutes walk from the historical center of the city. My room in the back of the hotel was very pleasant, with a tiny balcony overlooking the river. Everything was spotlessly clean and everything worked. Breakfast was the traditional Portugese style with ham, cheese, cake etc., but since it was buffet style you could really eat as much as you wanted. The only downside was that the clerk, while friendly enough, wasn't at all helpful. I asked about a nearby place to eat and was directed to what was obviously a tourist trap, the kind of place where the menu is in English and has pictures of the food. Overall though, the Res. Porto Madrid was great value for the money. I would stay there again on a return visit to Porto.

Great price for what you get. Area is a little dodgy looking when we arrived in the evening and not sure I would be wandering around by myself but the room had everything we needed, breakfast was included, free wifi, front desk staff also gave all you could ask for and more....
