We spent three nights in Teatro. All and all we were pleased with this hotel, welcoming at the reception was very warm. They really cared about you ja helped with everything. Compare to this restaurant staff ( bar and breakfast) was suprisingly cold and distant. Theme works at public areas; looks classy and stylish. In rooms it does not work so well; lightinig should be more efective. We had to use our own flashlight to see shelves. Found one more plug there, it was othervise invicible. If you have problems with eyesight or nyctalopia, you should choose another hotel.
BUT we were pleased with with our stay and would recommend this hotel. Location if perfect!

Designed like a theatre set, dark carpets, lots of curtains, dimmed lights, spot lights etc. even costumes on display or hanging on dress rails. Yes it is quirky but in a good way. So different from your usual large city hotel or hotel group. The staff were so helpful, courteous in every way. Breakfast was great, choice and variety.
We went with the Adviser reviews and booked for Dinner. This was excellent, gorgeous and melt in the mouth flavours. Beautifully displayed food on all courses plus a gorgeous bottle of Wine. Doña Maria. Atlantis.
We had a standard double Gallery Room. If you can go up a size, I would recommend it but no complaints, except those given as Advice on Traveller Tips.
Central location, you can walk easily down to the River Edge, Bridges and Historical Sights Hop on/ off Bus nearby. Main shopping, Cafés and Restaurants also within walking distance.
We felt we made a good choice for a three day break.

Room Tip: We had the standard double Gallery room on Floor 4. Room 403. Tight for space. Also as an older tr...

We travelled with friends and one them said she was seduced by Teatro and we knew what she meant. You enter, and are welcomed by friendly staff in the warm, tranquil atmosphere, with dark colours, it was very stylish. One of our party had an upgrade to an amazing room, large with terrace. Our bed was huge and amazingly comfortable. There was a large bathroom with separate toilet, all behind a large curtain continuing the theatrical theme. In fact there were curtains and costumes all around the hotel. Breakfast was varied although the dining room was a bit small. Would recommend.

Stayed here for 3 nights in June in a Junior suite. Have a bit of a mixed and indifferent view of the hotel.

The pros are:
Good location
Large and comfortable bed
Very good rainshower
Helpful Reception staff

The cons are:
All the areas are very dark including the room itself. This creates quite an oppressive feeling in the hotel. I think it also hides the fact that some areas of the hotel and rooms are starting to look a bit tired.
Poor quality of breakfast. Only two choices of hot food and was exactly the same every day. In addition service in the breakfast area was average and a bit hit and miss, the staff in there could do with smiling occasionally. This is in contrast to the Reception staff who generally were very helpful and pleasing to deal with.

I feel that the hotel is very much style over substance. There's nothing to dislike about it, but by the same token there's nothing to get excited about.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 3 nights and took in the Festa Sao Joao. We were initially booked in from the 24th but the hotel was good enough to change our booking at short notice after we discovered what we would be missing out on the night before. The staff were fantastic and seemed to all be at least quadrilingual; all pertinent points were circled on the map for us, taking into consideration the length of our stay. The room was a good size, with an incredibly comfortable bed and wet room style shower. Upon arrival, we were given a card for a complimentary glass of port which I thought was a nice touch, my boyfriend also bought me flowers on our first night and the staff at reception were kind enough to deliver a large enough vase to fit gladioli to our room. The only downside of the room and with the hotel in general was the brightness, the lights are all set to be somewhat dim and the mirrors are smoked glass so there is never any bright light, but this is the only negative we had. Definitely consider the Teatro if you are planning a trip to Porto, great location and a great night's sleep.

sylvite on reception was amazing,we checked in early and room was ready, it was my husbands birthday they noticed the date on his passport at check in and left bottle of bubbles in ice and a chocolate cake in our room as a surprise on our return from an afternoon out. Breakfast lovely, bubbles available and lots of choice, great service, we couldn't fault this hotel.

Room Tip: we had room 214 at the back of the building! whilst the view wasn't great it was so quiet we sle...

Nothing dreadful wrong with the hotel but not quite what you expect from a mr and mrs smith reco. A previous review was completely right, the hotel is too dark. But if they switched the lights up you may notice its not as attractive as it seems! Aircon was broken on our final night and appears they have no back up system. The wifi is also incredibly annoying and seems to either go slow or stop at regular intervals. Also, the oddest free standing bath ive seen in a while. Was encased in glass like a shower cubical and was completely impartical as your could reach the taps and the water didnt drain.
