The Porto Trindade is a four star hotel that has undergone a relatively recent refurbishment. It is very modern, very clean and the rooms are spacious and airy with all facilities within the room including a kettle for tea and coffee. We even had a mannequin in our room for hanging clothes on. The beds are very comfortable although the mattresses appear to be hard at first touch.
There was a safe in the wardrobe which was free of charge. The electrics within the room are operated by the key card so is off when the room is not occupied. The weather during our stay was extremely hot and the temperature within the room soon built up, but once operated on our return the air conditioning within the room soon cooled it down. Complimentary bottles of water are left each day by the room maids who also clean the room and change the towels daily.
Breakfast was exceptionally good with a variety of choice to suit all tastes, hot, cold, cakes, pastries, meat, fruit, croissants etc, the list was endless. When the breakfast room is full, replenishment of the hot dishes can be a little slow but that is probably the norm at any busy hotel.
Other than for breakfast we didn't eat at the hotel but there is a small menu if required. Prices for food and drinks at the bar looked a little high but probably no higher than other hotel charges. A voucher for a complimentary glass of port is given to guests as a welcome gesture.
All of the staff in the hotel were very helpful and offered advice and information when asked. The reception staff all spoke English.
The Trindade Hotel was a superb base for our trip as it was very conveniently located just a 2 minute walk across the road from Trindade Metro station. This station is the main interface for most of the metro lines. Trains run frequently and cover the metropolitan area of Porto and beyond as far as the coast at Parvoa do Varzim around 45 minutes away. A 3 day go anywhere ticket is excellent value at 15 euros.
The central area of Porto is conveniently down the road although the main part of the old town and the riverside which is the bustling part of Porto is around a 15 minute walk. Easy walking on the way down but as it is on steep hills it can be a little tiring coming back. Not too good if you have any mobility problems. The metro does not run down to the river but taxis are available to avoid the uphill walk and cost around 4 euro.
This was our first visit to Porto, some friends joined us later in the week and we all agreed Porto is a stunning City, particularly on both sides of the river. There is a lot left t see and so it will not be our last visit. We are already planning to return and the Hotel Porto Trindade will definitely be our hotel of choice again. I would definitely recommend it.
