I had a holiday with my sister, and she chose the hotel for our staying. The hotel looked absolutely like an old castle. It was classic, luxury, historic and a little mystery. Getting inside the hotel, you can feel old and royal design teeming with noble things. I love its lobby and restaurant, there were the 2 places you can feel its historic atmosphere. Because the room was more modern and fashioned than its look. My room was spacious, comfortable and convenient with great view. The landscape surrounding the hotel was also amazing, walking around for visiting and exploring the hotel and you'll feel cryptic.

The old palace is used as a restaurant and lounge, and the new building with rooms is modern and very comfortable. We had a room with a view down the river, and it was large, modern, and comfortable. We had dinner here twice, with great food and service each time. The staff was friendly and helpful. There is a free shuttle into town, and we took a great walking tour. Porto is more relaxed than Lisbon, and a very interesting place to visit. If you are driving to the Pousada, drive through the high walls on the gravel driveway - we did not realize this was the entrance when we first got there.

We stayed here for 3 nights in a corner room overlooking the Douro river.
The room was large, furnished in a modern style, comfortable and cosy.

Both the bath tub and shower were great.

The only minor quibbles we had was lack of bench space in the bathroom and the room sometimes felt a little cool. But, they really are minor quibbles and they didn't distract from our stay at all.

The location of the hotel is really interesting, in an old palace and factory (the factory moved to new premises across the road). The garden and pool area were very pretty.

We were initially a little hesitant as the hotel seemed a bit far from the centre of town. Once we were there though, the location didn't bother us at all. The hotel provided a shuttle bus into the city (9am and 11am, needed to be pre-booked) but we ended up driving into the centre with our hire care (no problems finding parking). At night, when we wanted to go into the centre, we took a taxi for the short trip ( around 7 Euros). The hotel provides free parking.

The free wifi in the room and in the common areas was excellent.

Service through out the hotel was fantastic. The reception we received on arrival was one of the best we have ever received. Everyone was very helpful, providing information on how best to get in / out of town, dining options and essential sightseeing.

We enjoyed dinner in the hotel restaurant on our first night (modern interpretations of classic portugese cuisine) and coffee and pre-dinner drinks in the beautiful bar area. The breakfast buffet was excellent too (excellent quality and a lot of choice).

Room Tip: Go for the larger corner rooms.

This is a great hotel right on the river. The staff is fantastic and the food very good. The rooms are very spacious and extremely clean. Overall a great place but a little out of the way. They have a nice bar and pool.

Room Tip: Ask for a room raving the river.

The main building is impressive:an old palace preserved very well. The coomon areas are also beautiful, the swimming pools are wonderful. The room was big and confortable but the bathroom was in a strange place anf its lights were blue!

Magnificent site with over 2 centuries of history.
Excellent rooms, magnificent views over the Douro River, very relaxing, good service, very good food for breakfast (with a very good range of options) and lunch.

This was a very comfortable pousada within a former palace, situated on the river. The public rooms, many of which are splendidly decorated, are located in what was once the palace and the bedrooms are situated in a former flour factory, connected by a covered walk way. If you want a river view you need to book a superior room. The views from these rooms are lovely but they are slightly smaller than the standard rooms. Plenty big enough though in my opinion. There is free wifi throughout the pousada and excellent indoor and outdoor swimming pools and free access steam room and sauna. The hotel is most impressive and very memorable.
My main disappointment in this pousada was its distance from the town of Porto itself. It is definitely not walking distance. The pousada runs a free mini bus into Porto and back twice a day. I really think it should be more frequent than this. The reception staff are happy to call taxis for you and the cost is around 7€ each way. There is no hotel bus in the evening so if you are going into the city for dinner a taxi each way is necessary.
