Our cruise ship was the AMAVIDA, a new cruise ship in its 1st season. Accommodations were very nice with space tight but adequate. Only about 96 passengers, with one seating for dinner. Very nice arrangement of dining area. Breakfast and lunch were primarily buffet, with very good selection and quality. Dinner was disappointing, with only one meal of the seven receiving an outstanding rating. Beef and pork were generally over cooked and tough, fish rather bland. Two of the dinner meals were part of shore tours, and neither of these were above average.
The crew was very well trained and helpful. Tour staff was exceptional. Tours were generally to vineyards or old estates, with bus rides from 30 minutes to two hours. Except in Porto, independent touring by foot or vehicle was not an option. The tour guide used a Bluetooth voice box system with earphones for each person which worked VERY well. Scenery visible from the cruise ship and while on tours was spectacular.
Emphasis of the tour was port wine. Many tastings, tour visits, program presentations, and scenery were all about port. So if you love port wine, you will be in heaven. If you don't, you might want to consider an alternate cruise.
We found the TAP Portugal airline that flies from Lisbon to Porto to be the worst airline in our lifetime experience. Avoid them if possible.
