“Douro River - a very beautiful cruise”
Reviewed July 19, 2013

Our cruise ship was the AMAVIDA, a new cruise ship in its 1st season. Accommodations were very nice with space tight but adequate. Only about 96 passengers, with one seating for dinner. Very nice arrangement of dining area. Breakfast and lunch were primarily buffet, with very good selection and quality. Dinner was disappointing, with only one meal of the seven receiving an outstanding rating. Beef and pork were generally over cooked and tough, fish rather bland. Two of the dinner meals were part of shore tours, and neither of these were above average.

The crew was very well trained and helpful. Tour staff was exceptional. Tours were generally to vineyards or old estates, with bus rides from 30 minutes to two hours. Except in Porto, independent touring by foot or vehicle was not an option. The tour guide used a Bluetooth voice box system with earphones for each person which worked VERY well. Scenery visible from the cruise ship and while on tours was spectacular.

Emphasis of the tour was port wine. Many tastings, tour visits, program presentations, and scenery were all about port. So if you love port wine, you will be in heaven. If you don't, you might want to consider an alternate cruise.

We found the TAP Portugal airline that flies from Lisbon to Porto to be the worst airline in our lifetime experience. Avoid them if possible.

“Douro Prince Cruise from Porto”
Reviewed June 26, 2013

A lovely boat accommodating around 40 passengers or so.Cabins are small but acceptable and the lower cabins are smaller but have a sliding door to a small balcony. The cabins on the main deck are bigger but no fresh air as windows are kept shut. Our cabin was at the stern of the boat which is very noisey due to engine and gear noise.we were one of the youngest couples on board with most passengers retired.however all were friendly and due to the small number of passengers everyone HAS to get on with every one.Food is good, lunch and breakfast better than dinner. The trips were mostly good apart from Salamanca where the food and show at the hotel was very poor.Salamanca is a lovely city but I suggest you do "a runner" for lunch and eat else where.
Also the day trip in Porto is well worth doing your thing rather than sitting on a coach for 4 hours.Lovely scenery and well worth the trip. Not advisable for those that want to be active, who like walking, or keeping fit, as there is very little opportunity to exercise the legs!the white port chilled is a must!

“Relaxing half day though a very nice scenery”
Reviewed June 26, 2013

If you visit Porto and surroundings don't miss the Douro River cruise. Picked one from the offices near Sao Bento station. Word of advice, if you can, book the trips that takes place during the week working days because you pay 55 Euro instead of 80 in the week end ;). You travel by train to Regua where the boat awaits you and then embark in an lovely scenery cruise along side Douro. The landscape is idyllic with the vineyard terraces on both sides of the river. They serve you snacks and lunch, all seasoned with Porto and Douro region wine.

“Lots of fun, a very relaxing day”
Reviewed June 16, 2013

Excellent! We chose to take the train upstream, then cruise downstream back into Porto. It was so pleasant. The boat was comfortable, crew very professional, scenery lovely, and the lunch was tasty. They served us port, soup, roast, veggies, potatoes, wine, water, dessert, and coffee. Yum. So glad we celebrated our anniversary on the Douro.

“Delightful Douro”
Reviewed June 13, 2013

A week's cruise with Croisi Europe on the River Douro exceeded all our expections. Faultless would be the best way to describe it. The courteous and ever helpful crew knew exactly how to make us feel at home, and offered the passengers a wide choice of outings, as well as a range of entertainment on board. The Portuguese folk evening was the best and most colourful. The food was plentiful and appetising, and the scenery was beautiful ... vineyards cascading down to the riverside in scenery as peaceful and pleasing as any I've ever seen. We had a couple of days moored at the charming city of Porto, then cruised to the Spanish border. A coach trip into Spain to visit the historic city of Salamanca gave the holiday an extra dimension, and then it was back on board as our cruise returned to Porto. I have always wanted to visit Portugal. I'm glad I have, and I'm especially pleased it was with Croisi Europe on the River Douro.
