What appears to be an extremely well curated deli/grocery (it is), this small establishment also serves very good food, mostly from the colorful fish tins for which Portugal is famous (which of course, you can also buy). Everything from cod, trout, anchovies, sardines, you name it. Also salads, some dessert, wines and of course, port. All of which is also for sale. I believe there’s also ham, etc. but as fish lovers, we stuck to that side of the menu. Small, very popular place and in warmer weather, there’s some outdoor seating. A very casual, modestly priced meal served by very gracious hosts.

Lunch here on a warm spring Saturday was a delight. It was surprisingly not too busy, with tables available inside & on the pavement outside. The menu was full of things we fancied so choosing in theory was tricky but I’d heard great things about the grilled cheese with oregano & honey & it was a dish of decadent beauty. We had one of the sardine (La Rose) dishes too, which came with oregano crackers & some salad leaves & it was lovely too. There’s a good drinks selection too - the Douro white wine available by the glass being very good value. Coffee is excellent too. Its also hard to leave without buying some sardines & booze to take away so we left somewhat laden as well as replete. Lovely place.

Our first day in Porto we stumbled across MDF around 9:30pm. Busy for a tiny place. We ordered the baked sheep cheese with honey and oregano[+-€7] and sardines with lemon]+-€6].
Sardines were average , sheep cheese to die for best I’ve eaten so far. Service was on the slow side but hey no rush. Waiters were good to help choose some nice port.

Please order the grilled cheese with olive oil, oregano and honey. You will not regret it. It was served with toasted bread and it was one of the best things I have eaten. The meat pastry was also good but the CHEESE!
