This place is just like any other big square. But the special thing about this is the fountain with Griffins (half Lion with wings). Many have said that JK Rowling walked by here every day while writing the first Harry Potter books, and therefore came up with the name Gryffindor based on these animals. Well worth a visit for a HP fan.

The fountain is in a busy plaza with cafes and bars nearby. The fountain has interesting details and the sound of the splashing water is calming.

Great location to relax next to University of Porto. If you go between September - December you might see many university students walking by in their traditional academic wear that inspired Harry Potter's student's wardrobe. You can see students dressed in those at all times of the year but especially during the referred months as they define the new semester and many academic activities take place then. xo

The place is in between the restaurants and bars area (Rua do Almada) and the area round Livraria Lello. There are some nice coffee bars where you can have breakfast and you can also visit the famous Igreja do Carmo.
