We had here our first dinner and was a good start. Right on the river we manage to get a table outside. The view was awesome. We were offered a nice blend of white Porto wine and tonic water as aperitivo and a nice pre-starter. Great, friendly staff, very helpful. We tasted a lovely "robalo" or sea-brass and a risotto very well done.to finish off the meal a complimentary glass of Porto. Recommended. The only negative was the continuos passage of people very next to your table and overlooking at your food.

Just had a delicious and novel degustation meal (35 Euros) at Vinhas d Alho with Pedro Cavpos as an excellent guide through each course, noting that the degree of interest by diners was matched by the level of explanation. To have traditional food together with enthusiastic explanation of each course was a pleasure. We noted that all staff emulated this approach. Pedro was fluent in at least 3 languages and provided solid sommelier advice. With opportunity to dine overlooking the Douro sitting outside the restaurant, the cool led us to choose to sit more comfortably inside.

I went there for a simple dinner with friends. It wasn't the first time and I guess I was unlucky because the service was too slow, more than one hour and a half for the main course. To be fair we were warned by the waiter and had a surprise appetizer from the "chef" so they did what they can to apologize. The main courses were nice, nothing too fancy for the elevated price tag. Nice view, probably a good choice for tourists, not as good for the locals.

The location of this restaurant is fantastic, very romantic! There are available also some tables in this small and cute street, on the river, with a wonderful view. We noticed the restaurant during a walk in the city, and we decided to come back for the dinner. We arrived there at 9:00 pm and we asked if it was possible to sit on a table outside, with the river view. Unfortunately a waiter informed us that all the table outside were reserved, and the dinner was possible just in the inner room. It was ok for us, so we sat down, and until 9:30 nobody came to bring us the menu, or to asked us what we would like to drink. At 9:30 a nice lady, maybe the owner, come and asked us if we wanted to eat inside or outside. We told her we had preferred outside, but because we have been waiting for already 30 minutes, even inside was ok. The important was starting to eat something! She asked us to be patient for other 5 minutes. Nobody came again for other 15 minutes, when a waiter informed us a table outside was ready. So we went to the new table. A waiter come almost immediately with the menu. In the meantime we saw also some other people that was leaving the restaurant without having their meal, because they waited for too long.
So, when, at 10 pm, the waiter came to get our order, we asked for how long we would have still to wait. He answered us a little bit upset, but he came with a small starter, telling us it was a gift from the chief. We thought it was a gift for the time we had to wait. But, no! we finally paid it!
At the end food was good. Dishes were served like nouvelle cousine: look nice, but not so special. Wine good. So nothing worth to wait more than 1 hour!

This is a nice restaurant on the Douro river. I suggest this side of the river because of the view. This is a typical restaurant. You can't just taste wine as in lots of other places on the Douro. Wine list is rich and good. Service is professional and gentle. Food is well cooked and fresh. Quantity are enough to satisfy your appetite. Raccomendedfor a real dinner not just for tapas.
