“Quinta da Timpeira rocks!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2012

We stayed for one night at Quinta da Timpeira in June 2012. This was the first quinta where we stayed on our roadtrip through Portugal. Quinta da Timpeira is situated nearby Lamego, a small town where there is not that much to see. But the Quinta itself is located very quietly outside the centre. We arrived quite late and could not join the dinner anymore but that was no problem. The bedroom and bathroom were simple but clean. Breakfast could have been a little bit more wide. We enjoyed the most the contact with the owners when we tasted one of their own wines that evening and we had a very nice conversation. They certainly belong to the sweetest Portugese people we met during our entire stay in Portugal. Unfortunately, the weather was not good enough for a dive in their swimming pool.

What a gem we found in Quinta da Timpeira, the most helpful and delightful owners and staff. It was so nice to sit around a lovely big dining table with great view across to the mountains shrouded in cloud with a touch of snow, when we were there!! However it was great to be able to talk to others doing similar things to us and find out about what they had seen, what they were doing and where they were from.
To eat a most delicious dinner with the owner, who had arrived from Lisbon, was simply delightful and very generous with lots of suggestions from north to south.
We'd read a comment about the rooms being small or too full of furniture, not right, there was plenty of room and anyway we wanted to see the sights, not the inside of a room, beautifully decorated.
Quitna da Timpeira we'll recommend to all our friends and acquaintences.

We stayed here for 1 night on a tour of Northern Portugal. It is a fantatsic little hotel surrounded by vineyards. The hotel is spotlessly clean. The staff are very friendly and speak a variety of languages. We spent some time relaxing by the pool, enjoying the sunshine and fantastic views. The pool looked lovely and inviting wth luscious green grass around it, unfortunately it was still a bit cold to swim. There is a tennis court too.
The breakfast was included in our rate and was excellent especially the freshly squeezed orange juice! The hotel is also well signposted from Lamego town centre.

This place is in a beautiful location and is staffed by a most wonderful group of people. The proprietor, Miguel, made us feel welcome at all times his small team made delicious food, kept the place in spotless condition and managed to keep up an impressive garden/farm. My husband and I were traveling with my mother and two children (ages 4 and 8) and the setting worked very well for all of us. We were able take the two downstairs rooms that were connected by a hallway with a door -- so it felt very private and gave us a bit more room. We were also right across from an adorable game room -- so the kids had even more room to spread out. We also loved the pool, the view, the gardens and the grassy areas for picnic dinners.

If you make arrangements a little ahead, you can have dinner in a gorgeous outbuilding with Miguel as your host. We booked two dinners and they were among our most memorable in Portugal. My younger daughter even ate an entire fish!

I highly recommend this place for all ages!

  • Liked — The hospitality and the beautiful setting
  • Disliked — Driving in Portugal (although not as bad as we thought)

This is a small, modern, country house situated in vineyards in the Douro valley near to Lamego, and has approx 5 bedrooms available. It is very well maintained, with friendly staff; and has a small swimming pool, and sunbathing area.

The breakfasts are excellent, featuring local produce. Evening Meals also available, and again use local produce, and are off a high standard.

The nearby town of Lamego is well worth seeing, particularly in August/September when it hosts a festival.

We paid 70 Euros a night, for a room, and breakfast. The Evening Meals were 20 Euros each, including wine.
