“Very interesting”
Reviewed June 6, 2013

Expansive and atmospheric site, in a generally good state of repair (the houses recreated at the top of the site are in need of work). Fascinating glimpse of the distant past, although some panels recreating images of the site as it once was would have been helpful, great views form the top. Lots of uphill walking over uneven paths so not for those with mobility issues.

“A real surprsie”
Reviewed June 4, 2013

Really wasn't expecting too much at this sight. But, what a surprise! Very well presented, awesome location, fascinating history. An excellent visitor centre with a cafe.

We have been here several times over the years and have watched it change and grow as an attraction. What is so special is the chance to wander unhindered about the streets and get a real feel for how the town would have been. It really is a special place. Not far from Bom Jesus, it is easy to visit both in the same day.

“A Fantastic Celtic Iron-Age Site”
Reviewed May 2, 2013

Close to Guimaraes and Braga, Citania de Briteiros is well-excavated and partially restored. There is a good map at the entrance/ticket booth, and the views from the site are beautiful. You can easily imagine what it must have looked like when it was occupied. You should also visit the museum in the near-by town of San Salvador de Briteiros. It was the country home of Francisco Martins Sarmento, who directed a lot of the excavations. The admission to the museum is included in the admission to the site, and there are some great recovered objects in the museum. There is supposed to be a virtual tour available at www.csarmento.uminho.pt, but it's not working today.

“Gorgeous Iron Age Village”
Reviewed January 5, 2013

Citania is an archeological site where you can walk the streets of a celtiberian proto-historic village. The level of organization is unbelievable, you can see the streets, the water system, the rectangular and circular houses and there is also some evidence of the roman empire occupation.
You can see the site in about 2 hours, leave the high hill at home and be ready to climb a small hill, at the end you can enjoy a drink and the sunset in the cafe. Access from guimaraes and braga may not be easy by public transport but the place deserves the taxi ride.
