We had a great time at the Pousada. The room was lovely, the facilities were incredibly beautiful, the food was great, the location worked.

Our primary issue was with the running water. Apparently it shuts off every night at 12:00 AM. Then we did not have any hot water in the morning, which we were told upon check-out was a separate issue. The hotel made no effort to inform us of this and did not offer any real apologies or compensation. For a couple that is traveling around the country, bathing is obviously extremely important. We thought it was pretty ridiculous that such a luxurious hotel for which we paid a lot of money did not have hot water and did not offer any financial or other compensation.

This is a converted monastery which is huge. The rooms were comfortable, and the public areas went on forever. The staff was terrific, and the breakfast was amazing. We had dinner both in the bar and then in the dining room - excellent food and service both places. It is a little far away from town to walk, but the drive is simple to the free parking lot.

This pousada is situated on a hill above the town of Guimaraes so you do need transport if you wish to visit the town. The building is lovely with large, airy public rooms and good sized and well appointed bedrooms. Outside the grounds are extensive with secluded seating areas amongst trees, shrubs and flowers and a lovely pool overlooking the view to the town. It is well worth eating in the pousada at least once in your stay as the food is very good and there is an enjoyable ambience to the dining area.
