How often can we get an opportunity to stay in a 12th century Augustinian monastery? This was one of the main reasons for us choosing Pousada Mosteiro Guimarães. The facade of the Pousada, is beautiful with its small but beautiful Baroque staircase…and the facade is lit up beautifully as the sun goes down.
The staff at the reception was very genial, and also explained in brief the history of the property and the main things to see. Past the long corridor, the room we stayed was big and very tastefully laid. We decided to have our dinner in the restaurant at the Pousada. Called Dona Mafalda, the present day restaurant is located in what was earlier the wine cellar of the monastery. Sitting beneath vaulted ceilings and between granite columns, the food was tastefully presented and delicious even though it was expensive by our standards.
We wished we stayed in this lovely Pousada for one more day, but we could not because of our schedule. We recommend it highly.More
