“What a ride”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2013

First you get to Penha. Then you find the rocks, the spaces beetween, the miradors, the food areas, the sight, the church, the restaurantes - cheap and clean. If you have a bycicle you can take it with you.

“Superb view”

Been here a number of times as view over Guimaraes is superb and truly justifies the way up. I would recommend to go there on the sunset.

“Enjoy the view”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

It worth to get a ride on that smal cabines... All the way down/up the hill is great to enjoy this area of Guimaraes. At the higher point, is great to explore the surroundings with all that green and quiet as company

“Teleferico does not go all the way to the top so lots of walking”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2012

Two in our group of three are not as nimble as we used to be. The literature that describes the teleferico refers to this cable car going to the top of Mt. Penha. It does not. Once you get off the teleferico, the church or restaurants are not in view. In other words, the signage is very poor. It would help if there were graphic signs showing there are a lot more steps you have to climb before you reach the top. After climbing quite a few steps, we decided not to keep climbing. We walked to the left and noticed that nearby there were some places to eat. We thought it would be nice to get lunch at the hotel that was there, but they were not serving lunch. There were two small places where you could get a drink and something light to eat - fast food places – not really restaurants. Most of the seating was outside. We went into the first place to see what we could order and found a bad smell. That did not bode well for us as far as knowing how safe the food was. We went further to our left to the 2nd place that seemed much cleaner. The person serving the food didn't really understand English, but we were able to manage with the menu. About half of the items were not available that day. We ended up having a sandwich, which was very nice, and a drink. Perhaps there is more food available in the summer months of July and August although this was only September. Our biggest complaint was the lack of information about the teleferico NOT going to the top of the mountain. For those who have no problems at all with walking, this would not be an issue, but there should be information telling tourists that the teleferico does not go all the way to the top.

“what a ride!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 22, 2012

even if you're afraid of heights, you'll feel safe on this cable-car without loosing a sense of adventure. And on the other end of the climb, there's a whole mountain to discover. I seriously advise a ride on the scenic train, a view over this historical city and a picnic. If you like amateur mountaineering, there are some spots you can climb. There's a beautiful church that overlooks the city as well. If you like BTT, you can carry your bike on the cable-car and downhill in one of the exciting tracks. Caution...if you're not a serious downhill racer, it's best if you do it slow on the 1st time...
