...What else? !
Everything is going beyond any expectations, since it is done with heart and soul.
Wonderful surroundings, though it is worth just to enjoy a glass of his own wine and get relax looking around.
Definitely, it is a must in terms of accommodation in that area!

My husband and I stayed for two nights in the Doll's House - which was cozy and adorable.
We had breakfast and dinner in the main house - and loved everything about the older part of the house and the food and wine. The house has been beautifully restored and the antiques are gorgeous! Arthur was very kind and has lots of wonderful stories to tell about the house and the area in general. I loved the fact that the jams at breakfast were made by his cousin - are organic - come from the Quinta and are delicious. My husband is vegetarian so Arthur cooked a perfect dinner for us (and got a phone call from his mother who had helped with the recipe and wanted to know if it was a success). Arthur's wife makes all the desserts and they are also excellent. Talk about pride of place! A lovely experience.

Hi LaurenSp,

It was so nice to meet you, and a challenge for my first time cooking vegetarian meal for guests !!!
The following day, my wife demanded that I make the same recipe for her... and she loved it as well !!
I made a few diligences to try to send some of my Red Vinho Verde to you, but it is a small fortune to ship to DC !!!
I guess you will have to came back to have another go !!!
Cheers !!!

If you're looking for a warm welcome and a peaceful place, Quinta de Cancela couldn't be nicer. Arthur, the quinta's owner and host is full of stories and information about the surrounding area and Portugal in general. Loved the wine, the food, the recommendations, the view, our room and pretty much everything. We even got some tips on taking care our grape vines.

Hello Blue Moon Duck !!
When you say you loved pretty much everything, what can I say ??
It was great that you found all the information useful, and one of my biggest pleasures,
is to be able to share our family heritage with you !!
Take good care of those grapes and let me know the results !!!
All the best !!

I stayed here in February for 3 nights with my wife, 22month old daughter, and in-laws. Of everywhere we stayed in Portugal, this was by far the most amazing accomodation!
Arthur catered to our every need, which included bringing us samples of the estate's wine while we relaxed in front of the fire (which he lit for us every day). He was very accomodating to our daughter who fell in love with his cats. All of his suggestions for food and places to see were excellent and exactly what we were after. He also was happy to answer all the questions we had about Portugal, Portugese society, history, and the surrounding area. We really can't say enough good things about him, or this gem of an inn.
My wife and I and daughter stayed in one of the "modern" rooms, which is a lovely mix of modern amenities and original, historical charm. We especially loved the huge wooden beams and the original wooden shutters on the windows. My in-laws stayed in the "traditional" room, which included a fantastic four-poster bed and gorgeous brazilian armoire. The grounds are also beautiful.
We were especially fortunate to be the only guests so we had the run of the place - we would recommend travel in the off-season!
The breakfasts were fantastic - we always left the table stuffed - and Arthur went out of his way to accomodate my gluten allergy. Each breakfast included local products, such as fresh-baked bread from the nearby bakery, and jams made on the estate (including a fantastic pumpkin jam that we couldn't eat enough of, and a surprisingly delicious tomato jam that was great on cheese and ham).
If you are heading to northern Portugal make sure you don't miss out on staying here. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer.

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms!

great place to stay if you want a comfortable inn with history and a family touch heritage. Arthur is the perfect host: is kind and present but not intrusive. The place is in the middle of a rural area but a short distance by car from Braga, Guimarães and, even more important, from Ferrugem and São Gião, two of Portugal's best restaurants. You should try Arthur's 'vinhão' grape red wine, as well

This was definitely the best place we stayed during our two weeks holiday in Portugal. Arriving is already a treat as the scent of ripe grapes start to clean your mind while oranges fell of the trees ready to be eaten. You can feel the rich history of the Quinta immediately as soon as you step inside. This 18th century building was very carefully renovated and should make Arthur, the owner very proud. He made us feel very welcome. We stayed in the fantastic Canopy Bed Room and loved it, just like sitting on the terrace watching the sunset with a glass of wine after having a nice refreshing dip in the pool. Just everything we needed after a hot sunny day. The breakfast was amazing with great local food and fruits from Artur's garden. Strongly recommended!

Although it was early April and the weather was not spectacular, we had two great nights at this Quinta. We had looked it up before on tripadvisor and it held up to our high expectations. The host and owner Arthur was very friendly and made us feel at home instantly. The breakfast was terrific. Arthur shard many stories with us. Overall, its a great place to stay, very conveniently located for surrounding sites.
