I can agree with the other reviewers that this is an interesting and historic house. House has a nice garden, some very interesting interior spaces/architecture and an excellent breakfast is served. This small, 5 room, “hotel” would be better classified as a Guest House, it is a little hard to find and there is limited street parking. It is close to the castle and to the old town. The exterior is quite unremarkable from the street side (the photo used is of the rear from the garden) but inside its like stepping back in time.
But maybe too far back in time.
In our case we were given a small room on the ground floor at the rear of the house. This may have had some benefits as there was no noise from the cobbled street that the house fronts on to. The accommodation website does not differentiate between available large rooms and small rooms by way of descriptions or pricing. Double rooms are listed as 269 sq ft but we found that this is not true of all rooms.
The first thing we noticed when we entered the room was the plaster peeling off the wall beside the door. The light switch at the entrance of the bedroom was loose and barely attached to the wall. The TV was an old small CRT unit that had 10 or 12 poorly transmitted channels that really took us back in time as just about all the channels had to be viewed through a snow storm. We did not go to this town to watch TV but this may be an issue for some.
The shower room/toilet was tiny with a cracked shower base, a hand held shower head, the shower door had no seals so water poured out of the shower enclosure covering the floor, which then had to be wiped up. There were no bath towels only two small towels.
In our case the Wi-Fi was limited to the room only. Lighting in the bedroom and public spaces was poor. One further sign that this operation is still lost in a previous age is that it is cash only, credit cards not accepted.
Not withstanding the number of high ratings in the reviews, I agree that the old manor house is architecturally interesting, if you strip this away and rate the property based on quality of the accommodation provided it would, in my opinion and based on my experience, not fare so well.
For hotel accommodation it is definitely well below average and I would not recommend it to family or friends. I gave it an 'average' rating only because it is architecturally interesting.

Room tip: Small room at rear of ground floor is too small to be truly accessible.

Great hotell. Hard to find. No lift so you have carry luggages. Garden beautifull and room was big. The bed was good.
Hotelli on kapean kadun varrella ilman navigaattoria ei olisi löytynyt. Puitteet upeat tässä vanhassa talossa. Kiviportaat joten kannettava matkalaukut. Huone suuri ja tyylikäs.

I will just repeat what already was said here - this is truly amazing place to stay!
House has great vibe, good location and tasty breakfast. Our room was very big, with a comfy bed and a sofa.
Very welcoming Staff, internet working well. The only improvement could be some music during breakfast :-)
We will be back!

Solar Santa Maria is a fantastic place to stay in Bragança! Centrally located, with free parking close by. The rooms are very ample and quiet, and spotlessly clean. Water, chocolates, towels are provided fresh every day. The available breakfast is fantastic - bread, croissants, pastel de Belén, four kinds of jam, a few kinds of cheese, ham, coffee, tea, yoghurt, cereal, orange juice - you name it. One of the best hotel breakfasts I have seen on the Iberian Peninsula in a long time. Don Luis, the owner is going out of his way to help his guests, and to make you feel at home, and all that for a very affordable price. A real small boutique style hotel.
Simply the best place to got!!

We spent two nights here, in a large twin room on the ground floor, with a good sized bathroom, nice communal space, where we had breakfast, and lovely gardens. It's a old building with granite door and window frames, wooden floors and huge doors. Quite unremarkable on the outside but inside its like stepping back in time. Breakfast was a delight with home made preserves, cheeses, ham, fruit, yoghurt etc, and extremely good value at 5€. Lovely and helpful hostess.

Room tip: Because the floors are wooden, I would ask for one on the first floor, as the noise from the floors is loud at midnight!
