We stayed at A Lagosta Perdida for one night on our road trip to Northern Portugal. Its a quirky place. We liked it! The owner, Robert, is an interesting guy and a great host. We had a nice evening meal on the patio covered with grape vines and a lovely breakfast in the morning. It would have been nice to stay longer!

Not only did we love our bedroom which overlooked the pool, ping pong table and hills, we fell in love with the easy to find hiking trails and the absence of bugs on the trail. I'm not one for USB wacking but found ourselves a little more adventurous so wandered off the trails and still eventually found ourselves back to the village population 45.

Meals were all scrumptious and served hot. Our room was surprisingly quiet unlike other hotels and B&Bs. We never heard anyone else except the birds in the morning.

Robert the owner is delightful and will encourage you to play their grand piano, which I nervously obliged to his delight.

If you want some major R&R, this is the place. A covered garage was also a plus.

Room Tip: Ask for the room overlooking the swimming pool on the 2nd floor.

A Lagosta Perdida is about a 30-40 minute drive from Braganca, situated in the small village of Montesinho (population 45). The inn is in a charming refurbished building. Our room was quite large, as was the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable. The common sitting areas throughout the building were tastefully and comfortably furnished, with a fireplace going in the one room (it was chilly April). The included breakfast offered yogurt, croissant, toast, cereal, juice, coffee, tea. Dinner was extra, and Robert, the host, offered up soup, salad, fish, rice, carrots, dessert, coffee/tea, and a half carafe of wine (there were two of us)-all simply prepared and very good. Robert, Sally and Sean originally are from Great Britain, so there is no language issue for English speakers.
Although there is a small cafe in the village, A Lagosta Perdida is it for dinner, and I would not like to make the drive from Braganca in the dark. The village itself is worth a stroll, and the simple cafe is worth a visit for a glass of wine or beer just for the local charm.

Contrary to other reviewers, we had no trouble finding the "Lost Lobster" - there is an indication on the road from Bragança to Spain which leads you up to the village of Montezinho, and the village itself is so small that you can hardly miss the place. First surprise: there is (huge) garage - something which you would definitely not expect in a tiny village of stone houses, many of them being in a ruined state. Second surprise is once you get in - the common area of house is spacious and there is a lot of light during the day, a grand piano by a fireplace, and just a cozy and warm atmosphere - we immediately felt a bit "at home". Everything inside is stone and wood and the old structure of the building has been well preserved, giving the house a lot of character and charm. There is all the modern comfort you want, although some details were not perfect, probably to a lack of maintenance over winter (many lights not working, and the heating had not been working in our room prior to our arrival - due to the inertia of the thick walls and the not so perfect insulation it never got really warm, especially in the bathroom). This was compensated by all the rest though - we really liked our spacious, tastefully decorated and comfortable room, had great dinners prepared by Robert only for us (we were on our own), very good breakfast as well, and good tips for hiking and other activities which helped us to make the best out of our stay. There are two cats and a couple of dogs, all of them very friendly, and for us they contributed to the cozyness and nice atmosphere of the place, it might not be ideal for someone who hates animals though. Talking of animals: Robert and his family also run a quite nice horse riding center in França, 15minutes down the road towards Bragança, and a stay there may be very interesting for anyone who wants to do horseriding in a personal atmosphere and wonderful scenery. We can only recommend the area - certainly off the beaten track and not a lot of tourist infrastructure, but it would deserve more visitors- and the Lagosta Perdida, probably the best option in and around the natural parc.

Located in tiny village of Montesinho, (only 45 residents), and within half an hour's easy drive through the country, from Braganca. From the outside, there's nothing spectacular about the hotel, but inside, very quaint, well restored, and with very comfortable rooms. The daily rate includes dinner and breakfast, and the owner ( Rob ) is just an amazing cook. Breakfast on the patio, dinner inside or out, depending on weather. There's a small swimming pool, great for cooling off after the heat of the day. Great country hikes in the immediate area, and the Spanish border is within ten minutes drive. Altogether a great experience.

Room Tip: Each of the rooms is different, and ours was on the front, overlooking a narrow village street. No p...

Charmingly restored stone building, which catered to our every need. We even had tea and coffee making facilities in our room, which is rare in Portugal.
Our host Robert cooked us delicious meals, and we had a relaxing break at the end of a long trip.
The town is quaint, with some interesting old buildings and a church with skulls and bones on the gates! Don't expect any night life though.
WE went on a marathon hike to the lake and passed through much burnt out bushland from forest fires.
A great place to relax, but don't go if you want excitement.

We spent four nights here as part of a walking holiday in northern Portugal. We enjoyed our stay here enormously. Our room, on the front of the house, was spacious and had French windows to a small terrace with stone steps leading down to the street. Absolutely charming. The property has been renovated to an exceptionally high standard but has kept its original features with lots of exposed stone. There is a lovely terrace which you share with Silver the rabbit and a couple of cats. Dinner is a comunal affair which we really liked as it was interesting to chat with other travellers and, if there was no one else staying , with Rob and his son. Rob is an excellent host and a good cook. The meals we had at La Lagosta Perdida were the best we had during our 10 days in Portugal.
We loved the village which is very peaceful with hardly a car to be seen. We had a drink at both bars. The countryside is amazing with wonderful views. We walked for about 8 hours each day and only saw 2 other walkers. The wild flowers were incredible especially the heather, broom and lavender. A word of warning on the walking front. There is little in the way of waymarking in the park and some of the paths are overgrown and difficult to find. We got lost one day and had to retrace our steps as we had been walking for several hours and weren't sure we would have the energy to complete the walk even if we found the path again as it was a very hot day ( 28 c with no shade). We completed the walk the next day thanks to Rob driving us to a half way point which was on a track suitable for motorised vehicles. The terrain is a wilderness but a very beautiful one.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the 2 rooms which have stone steps to the street.
