Aparthotel Luamar

We stayed here for 2 nights in late October. The check in was a breeze, we flew in early and the staff rearranged the house keeping details so we could get into our room way earlier than the posted check in time. We had issues with SATA airline ( a strike) and the hotel staff really helped out with contacting the airline and rearranging our flight and also getting ahold of the Booking.com people to adjust our stay accordingly. The Manager (Geralda) and Lucelia were instrumental in helping us get our vacation back on track, thank you!
We did have an ant problem in our room that was addressed immediately, but the complex is starting to show its age (more of a 3 star than a 4). The breakfast was quite good, the kitchen staff was very accommodating.
The pool area is excellent, easy beach access, great views, poolside bar, lots of chairs.
The beach is amazing, great surf, beautiful sunsets, superb for long walks.

Room Tip: Ocean side rooms are a must.

Nothing has changed since our first visit 4 years ago. The room was ok, but it really needs renovation, everything is still old. Breakfast was not as we expected but the outside bar, food and service was great. We enjoyed our stay this year again; overall the hotel is a good choice due to price, cleanliness and its excellent location.

Room Tip: Beach view is best and for families with children the ground floor rooms are great.

This aparthotel has a great location on the fantastic beach of Porto Santo. It' close to the sand. The apartement are old but clean and functional. The price is very interesting (125/150 euro one night for apartment). There aren't many services. The breakfast is poor but sufficient for me. The pool's bar has a good food. I think that it's a just compromise to have a great vacation in porto santo without pay o much.

These were better than i expected.I initially booked via www.archipelagoportugal.com and was sceptical of the quality, however i was plesantly surprised! Great atmosphere for 4 of us sharing and everything was clean and tidy. Close to the town and the beach and cute shops!

The gym, jacuzzi, sauna, snack bar etc which were in the description when we booked were NOT available (in jan 2011) due to it being quiet. Fair enough... but then they shouldn't advertise these features!
They also didn't mention in the advert that some of the facilities were chargeable, e.g. billiards, gym, jacuzzi etc. All about 5 euros/hour if I remember rightly.
We felt a bit put out so we asked for a free upgrade to a Sea-View Room and were given it no problem - the reception staff were excellent. So... having paid only 35 euros a night (through hoteis.com - cheapest site we looked at), we felt quite satisfied in the end.

Our sea-view apartment, was a big improvement on the 'Mountain-View' one which was dark and was pretty much north-facing, looking onto some nearby trees (and a distant mountain was visible on one side). The Sea-view one faced NE and faced the reception and pool a bit more than the sea but this had the added bonus of us being able to pick up the WiFi signal from our balcony!
The hotel is RIGHT ON THE BEACH! And it is a stunning sandy beach... many miles long! The good thing about being there in January was that there were very few people on the beach. Yet the weather was around 19 degrees and mostly sunny so we were sunbathing etc everyday. The sea wasn't too cold either, but it had big waves so not suitable for very young or weak swimmers. Parts of the long beach may be calmer at other times of year, but the bit directly in front of the hotel had a sandbar so good for surfing and playing in big waves, rather than gentle swimming.
The 'minimarket' in the hotel looked very poorly stocked, with many shelves empty and was probably over-priced - although we didn't go in because when we went to look at it it was closed (during it's opening hours!) while the lady worked in the laundry across the corridor. So.. it was a good 2km trek along the beach, or road if you prefer, to the supermarket, Zarco, and other shops. I don't think there are any restaurants very nearby, but the hotel offered to take us to their sister hotel in the town which had a restaurant. But we were keeping things cheap and doing self-catering, so didn't take them up on that. The kitchenette was OK: no oven, no masher, peeler, toaster etc as seems to be the norm in these kind of places, but there was a good selection of pans, crockery etc.
Overall... we were happy cos we got a good deal, the apartment was perfectly adequate and the beach was amazing.

Average **** hotel 5km out of the center. Clean, small pool, and splendid beach.
Be aware there is not much shade, both at the pool as at the beach. Also the waves in the sea are strong (stream upwards to westpoint) so dont leave your small kids in the see unattended. There is no liveguard.
There is a (food-)store and a chinese restaurant. ATM, Free shuttle to and from the center.
Rooms are average, it is very quiet day and night. Very polite staff.
