As we were staying at the Colombos's neighbouring resort, we had use of this impressive resort, The food, facilities and staff tick all the boxes, Keep doing a job well done guys!! The pools are very clean. plenty of loungers, a great poolside bar with polite and excellent staff, the staff here are on 1st thing in the the morning till last thing at night. and still manage to be polite and friendly.

Room Tip: An impressive looking mix of apartments and villas, no expense spared..

Stayed in Pestana Colombos for one week after visiting Funchal in the beginning of August. The hotel apartments are indeed very impressive - nice decoration, top building materials and complemented with 5 star gadgets (ex.: Bang & Olufsen TV's). Overall the general hotel infrastructure is very complete and well maintained (pools, gyms, restaurants, etc.). As it has just recently opened it is a bit quieter than it's older brother (Pestana Porto Santo) which is certainly a plus if you are looking to relax. The location is excellent as it sits right next to the beach and, if you are looking to visit Porto Santo's village or take a stroll around the island, the hotel offers free bus transfers on a regular basis or the possibility to rent a vehicle without leaving the hotel premises.
All the staff we had contact with were very friendly and willing to help us in whatever way possible. The hotel director was constantly supervising the differents areas of the hotel and showed genuine interest in interacting with the clients in order to understand and fulfill our needs.

Regarding the island, Porto Santo is very small, perfect to relax but also with plenty of activities to do. For example, the hotel has a partnership with the local diving club which makes daily trips to one of the smaller islands and offers a glimpse of the spectacular local marine reserve. Additionally, there are very good restaurants and bars in town if you option to have a night out.

Overall, I highly recommend this hotel and will certainly come back.

Back home after two weeks relaxing at the best all inclusive hotel i have been to so far. Accommodation was first class free standing bath mini wet room Bang and Olufsen flat screen TV with sound bar air conditioning that was virtually silent ! Large comfortable bed good size wardrobes and spotlessly clean. The food was excellent freshly cooked and plenty of choice, good quality bottles of wine served at the table along with coffee and espresso. I was particularly impressed with the two bars. Usually all inclusive means poor quality spirits and ready mixed cocktails but not here even at the pool bar cocktails and Sangria were freshly mixed with quality ingredients. The staff were excellent and some were outstanding genuinely friendly and efficient nothing was to much trouble. The location is perfect 100M from the beach and the grounds although newly planted will mature very soon. For those who like shore fishing there is a reef accessible from the rocks only 2KM away at Calheta light Bass gear is ideal. Will go back next year a great relaxing holiday.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view

Stayed in Pestana Colombos for 8 days in the end of July, 2 adults & a 3 yr old kid via Abreu (portuguese travel company).
Firstly I would like to say that we stayed so far in many 5* star hotels in many countries in/or nearby Europe as well as Carribbean. I say this just to stress out that I am quite able to compare. :-)
HOTEL& surroundings:
it is a huge modern complex with simple lines made mostly of natural stones and wood. Just see photos, it´s the easiest way to get an idea about it.
It still smells of new and you feel everywhere a lot space. The recepetion area is huge and despite being so modern, it still feels quite cosy thanks to its warm colors and wood used in the interiors. Above the reception there is a reading/games/TV/Internet area. Always empty which is understandable as the hotel was full only on 30% being opened only that month.
There is not much green around the hotel, as it has been just just planted, so it will need few years before it gets as green as in the next door Pestana Porto Santo (PPS onward). Speaking of it - these two hotels belong to the same hotels chain and clients of both may use any of them. So, whenever you feel like it, you can go to the PPS for lunch, or to use the pools - we did so very often.
We could see the general director of the hotel almost every day having breakfast at Colombos. Always very attentive and nice, interacting with guests. Every day a lady knocked at our door asking if everything was ok. Nice touch. :-)
ROOMS:
spotless, very spacious, with big balconies and huge comfortable beds. Our room was on the 2nd (last) floor facing the pool villas / side sea view. There is basically no bathroom, as it is all open in one big space - you can only separate it by curtains (see photo). This does not give much privacy, on the other hand it didn´t bother us at all - actually my husband loved watching Bang Olufsen TV while having a bath.
The rooms seemed soundproof as we could not here anybody despite having some neighbours(and normally we always do hear them even in soundproofed rooms).
Bathtub has an egg shape (great!) and the separate shower (rain style) is simply amazing! I truly enjoyed having shower here.
It is true (as many other reviewers pointed out) that the handles of the sink are a pain in the neck - my hands almost hurted from trying to turn them each time. I would also appreciate a small drying rack for swimming costume.
Coffee/tea making facilities are I suppose a totally british issue - don´t think any other nationality misses this thing, as most of the people have hot tea only when they are ill in winter-times. :-)
A small complain goes to the chambermaids - they always threw our pajamas (left on the beds)either on the sofa, or somewhere (like a piece of garbage) and often left glasses on the balcony.
POOLS:
2 large pools and 1 kid pool. All the same modern design, with pleasantly warm water. A lot of sunbeds, but not enough parasols (especially if there is nothing that would provide shade to the big beds with mattresses and people take 5-7 parasols each to hang them to the wooden beams above the beds. This is something that should be fixed quickly). The indoor pool was great and quite big, but what bothered me there a lot was that the pool water had cca 27C and the jacuzzi had cca 24C. A jacuzzi is supposed to be HOT, otherwise you get cold after 5 minutes just sitting on your bum. Funny was, that when I put my foot on the jets, hot water was coming out in the pool and COLD water was coming out at the jacuzzi. :-(
The pools in PPS are a bit nicer, with also some jacuzzi jets...we used mostly these.
The pool bars are both fine, at Colombos I used to get waffles. Yummy.
RESTAURANTS / FOOD:
the main restaurant in Colombos is very modern and very spacious. The staff is really 5*. Everything is well-organized and very professional. No queues, no mess, no screaming kids, enough space. Waiters are attentive, polite and well-mannered (the best was Rustem, but also Natalya and many others). We opted few times for the main restaurant in the PPS and we could see an abysmal difference between waiters. In PPS are older portuguese guys - not very polite, never come back to fill your wine glass, never smile to you.
In Colombos are I think mostly ucranians and portuguese - but it´s like being in a different class of a hotel. They act like in a Michelin restaurant (honestly)...and it´s very nice. I admit that this might be also because the Colombos restaurant is always half empty unlike the PPS one, that is always full and overcrowded, so they have less time for being nice.
We tried once the Madeirense restaurant - the food was excelent and very well cooked. I definitely recommend it.
As to the food in main restaurants...hmmm...it was good, tasty, they tried to alter it as well, but it still wasn´t the best food nor the best selection. Go few times to PPS just for a change, otherwise you might get fed-up easily. However, the "alentejano" house wine was very nice, even the rose one. :-) Also the caipirinha had a great taste - especially at the pool bar of PPS (thanks to the the bartender with black glasses).
BEACH:
the best part of all the stay! Me and my husband said to each other that this beach is actually better than the ones in Dominican R. or Mexico. The sand is the FINEST I have ever seen (is honestly like flour), the water is turquoise and crystal clear! And the best bit - is empty! Is the ultimate pleasure! The only thing missing are the sunbeds, but we never needed them...plus lying on this sand was the best pleasure! The parasols and wind-barriers are given free (as well as sunbeds in PPS).
ENTERTAINMENT:
I think there is none in Colombos (live music and I think a magician some nights at the bar), but you have the night entertainment in PPS. I think we always got there a bit late, so we´ve seen only once one performance and once a terrible live musician- both lasted about 10 minutes. Then was 3 kids songs with their dances and then we always waited for other half an hour (around 10-10:30pm), but never happened anything so we left. As to the daily entertainment - I think there were some games organized in PPS, however we highly appreciated that Colombos was nice and quiet.
THE CITY:
sweet little sleepy town, with very few half empty restaurants, few souvenir shops, one tiny Columbus museum and 19 taxies that is THANK GOD not yet overcrowded by screaming, drunk tourists as many Algarve´s towns. You can also experience a sand dunes ride, or horse rinding, or play golf...or get a ferry and be within 2 hours in Madeira. :-)
OVERALL:
This was one of our best holidays experiences in the last few years.
Despite few little negatives that can be (and should be) fixed easily (cold jacuzzi, no dressing-gowns&slippers in the rooms, not enough parasols, pillows that to me (not my husband) smelled extremely of ot goose fat and a fridge that never gets stocked-up (so what´s its point?) this hotel provided outstanding service, good food, great pools and great accomodation. The beach and the sea are simply perfect. All in all it was a perfect relax and we hope it will keep (or improve) its great standard and never get a crowded mess like many places in Greece or Turkey have become . :-)
We will definitely come back! Looking forward for the pool villas! :-)

Have just returned from a lovely holiday at the Pestana Colombos hotel. The hotel is very stylish & contemporary, the bedrooms are luxurious with very comfortable beds, designer egg shaped bath and the most fantastic shower (just like a mini wet room). The food is excellent quality with a very wide variety of choice at mealtimes including cooked order meat and fish. During our stay we sampled the Italian and Madeiran restaurants which both offered excellent quality dishes. The staff at this hotel are outstanding, providing a very professional and friendly service, nothing is too much trouble. The hotel is very clean and well maintained, with newly planted gardens which will look outstanding once matured. The location of the hotel is terrific with a fantastic clean sandy beach and clear turquoise sea (no seaweed), with lovely beach walks to the town centre and rock pools. The whole family enjoyed this holiday (2 adults & 2 teenage children).

Room Tip: Sea view (2129) second floor, however these rooms are south east facing and have the sun in the morning.
