We travelled as two couples,both on our first trip to Madeira. We will go again and will hopefully stay at Golden Residence again. The suite we were upgraded to was huge and with a balcony. Everything in the hotel was immaculate and maintained.

The breakfast was fine and the evening buffet good value for money. Lillian the restaurant manager and her staff were very helpful,friendly and funny!

One slight criticism is the price of the evening buffet. It is quoted as 4 for the price of 3 but it is slightly more and the reason for this could not be explained to us.

Anyway,no problem we still had a great time.

We had one week at the hotel, arriving new year’s eve 2019. Comfortable and spacious room (A410), but unfortunately very limited view to the Atlantic ocean from the balcony (too far from sea front). Transport to Funchal centre by public bus is efficient, two bus stops near to hotel. Nice and helpful staff. Nice breakfast, omelette available every other day. Indoor swimming pool and sauna available free of charge 5 pm - 9 pm, which is especially nice in wintertime. Nice outdoor areas by pool and garden, sunbeds and towels available free of charge. Garage parking available, 5 euro per night. We had a pleasant stay.

I’m a big believer in feeding back both positive and negative. As you can see from my reviews.

We booked into the Golden Residence for three nights. Our room was 607 in block A. A very basic room with air-conditioning which in reality was just a fan. The issue we had was the outlook and the noise from two dogs in the residential apartments opposite. Obviously not much the hotel could do about the dogs however they can control how they react to an unsatisfied customer.Defensive, unsupportive, uncooperative, all the words I would use to describe the reception teams initial response and that of the manager who I eventually spoke to over the phone despite a request to meet her face-to-face. Half an hour of verbal sparring and not a single apology resulted in an upgrade to a much better room with a much better outlook in Block B No support in moving our clothes, No guidance on where our new room was.

Problem resolved however not without a battle and not without a very bitter taste being left in the mouth of the customer who will never return and will never recommend.

My wife & i had booked a week break at the Golden Residence.
Due to a bit of confusion over building work we were upgraded to an apartment with a sea view. Absolutely amazing.
I also use a wheelchair which made it so much easier.
the staff were so very friendly, saying hello every time we passed & smiled, ensuring everything was satisfactory.
The only criticisms I had was, I'm vegan & at meal times i struggled to find something suitable.
I eventually brought it to the attention of the hotel management who sorted it out. However for a 4 Star hotel I'd have though this would been standard practice?
We would return once all the refurbishment work has been completed.

From check-in to check-out our experience at the hotel was absolutely amazing. The staff are so friendly an attentive from the reception staff to waiters and room attendants. The hotel is a 5 min walk from the Forum shopping centre and is also served by the airport bus shuttle service which stops right outside the property. As for the room, we had a pool/sea side room with a balcony which was very comfortable and had a little kitchenette. It was cleaned daily and we found no faults with it whatsoever. The breakfast buffet menu is as vast as it is tasty and there is something for everyone from cooked, to cold and even cakes!

The property hosts a series of events throughout the week which you can choose to engage with and we attended the stunning sunset barbeque which was sublime. Management staff were on hand to great each guest with a glass of champagne just before the event started and were very open to listening to any ideas and engaged in general chit-chat which was great to see. Furthermore the sea views are to die for!

We will most certainly visit the island again and plan to stay at this most comfortable and friendly of hotels. A thank you to all the staff and management and Micaela (hope I spelt that right!) who was the most friendly of reception staff!
