“Fascinating place”
Reviewed February 13, 2014

There is something about it when you stand on the 589 meter high glass floor. It’s the moment you will remember for a life time. Although it takes some courage to stand on it, but when you do it you have feeling of a great accomplishment, especially if you are afraid of heights. Definitely place not to miss when you are on this fascinating island.

Amazing views of the island on a clear day. Not for the feint hearted! Not worth going if cloudy as you will not see alot.

“Travel to Pico de Ariero from the Valley of the Nuns, there is a brand new road opened 2014.”
Reviewed February 7, 2014

Tremendous views on our second visit, the day before was shrouded in mist and rain. We travelled back along a brand new road across the mountains from the valley of the Nuns. Even the guides in Funchal did not seem to know that the road existed, previously this could only be carried out on foot.

“Highest Point in the Land”
Reviewed February 6, 2014

It can be cold, so come prepared. We were above the clouds on a clear day which was truly amazing! You currently can't get to the other peak and it is blocked off for repairs. When the track splits, the left hand track is via tunnels. The second tunnel is very long, you need a torch or light of some sort and it is very wet. The right hand track is the difficult one with lots and lots of steps - but it was worth the effort, Everyone stops at a flattened area which is approximately on the opposite side to the visitors centre across the canyon. Came back the same way as the tunnels are not recommended unless you are prepared for them (Everyone seems to do the same). The views are very spectacular and the walk quite challenging. Fantastic for those who love hiking but you are able to return at any time during the walk when you have had enough.
